I got this game. Was such a short game. As soon as I got it home it probably took me under 2 hours to beat. I remember being disappointed on how short the game was. It was such a bad ass game!
This rarely acknowledged Japanese-horror themed platformer nails the aesthetics with creepy graphics and a well-done, understated soundtrack. But ultimately, it's just not very fun to play, and that sucks, because this one had a lot of potential.
At least it's better that one of Seta's other offerings the totally horrid shitfest that is The Wizard of Oz. God that game was awful, makes this one look like Castlevania Bloodlines.
A game from my childhood. I remember this game greatly. I could never complete. How I long to try it again. Whoever called this game trash is indeed trash themselves.
I actually recorded footage of this game when I was younger. It's on RUclips. Unfortunately I didn't beat it. I remember the game being too hard and I lost interest. Such an obscure game but deserves to have a look.
What a throwback. I watched my stepmother is an alien last night and in it there's a scene at the end where Jon lovits and Dan akroyd throw the porse with the eyeball snake into the generator. As it gets electrocuted it becomes just an eyeball. This triggered a flash of memory of this game but I thought the eyeball was a boss, not the inflating ones at the beginning. That's all I could remember. I googled it and got the same few results over and over. Hours later after having paused the TV, and thought, and thing not to think so it would come to me, I went to bed. Then while reciting the alphabet to try to recall the name of the game, I saw a flash of the ninja. Then awhile later the spear and the power that comes off the tip. But still had no real memory of the name or game or anything else. So today I sat and scrolled thru every SNES game ever and saw the title. I didn't really recognize the name, but did recall the subtitle if japanese tale of horror. This was after remembering the catacombs and the underground doors that spin around. Still remembering nothing else. So I eventually ended up here and boy am I glad I did. Although I would never even attempt to play any of these today because of the sheer frustration in the looseness of the controls, and the stiffness if the controls and the frustration that comes with. I've tried going back and playing old Sega games, old SNES and nes games and it's beyond infuriating after having become used to how well today's systems and even touchscreen games are controlled. How in unison and sync they are with the on screen movements and the commands. I'll always keep the nostalgia but spare trying to relive it and ruin the memories.
I've been looking for this game since I beat it as a teen! The ending is different though. The hero reaigns to close the portal to the abyss and saves himself by sitting in the devil gods throne, thus forcing all of the abyss to be subjegated to him. He accepts his fate and knows the world ge loved is lost to him. It was that choice and sacrifice that horrified me most, and why I remembered it ling after I played. It was a rental in one of those old movie rental shops. I suspect I will never find the exact copy I played. Starting to wonder if it was pieced together or something from the original.
Back in the mid 1990s, I recall some magazines even calling this one of the worst titles on the SNES. Probably there's even worse but just from the way the character moves on the screen, I can see it must be awful to control; the disappointment at the time may have been heightened by how great the game looks and sounds (the final boss and its background are impressive and creepy), although the lazy recycling of the second half leads me to wonder if the development started promising, then for one reason or another there were no more money and/or time, so they quickly cobbled together what was done and didn't bother to playtest much...
Bebe's Kids is far worse than this game, Rocko's Modern Life, and Eek the Cat too. Those 3 games represent why I didn't much care for western made software back in the day, nor Amiga ports to the 16 bit consoles.
What would been a killer concept to me, is that in the short, penultimate level where Imoto had to fight The Legions Of The Dead, if those guys actually were the same soldiers, that we saw were corpses in the very first picture of the beginning of the story, hence why one of them (maybe Hannya Shogun) said "Remember me. Imoto?", as they were (by that point) hired as minions by The Evil One to stop Imoto. That would indeed have been very cool, and great continuity as well, though I'm pretty sure that whoever wrote the story didn't take this to account, hence why Imoto said in the ending cutscene, that he had to return to the fight. Oh, well...
i just beat this without using any continues...what's strange is after the final boss explodes....the screen just fades black and that's it. Stays on a black screen. anyone know what's up with that? didn't get to see the end credits.........
As a Samurai nerd, I tried to like this game back then during my emulation days, but seriously find it really "dull". Although nice Japanese monster folklore though which you can see alot of them appear in Nioh nowadays. Also I have a feeling the storyline was "butchered" than the original Japanese version back when U.S and Europe think kids will not understand Japanese culture back in the day.... like Jelly filled Donuts from Pokemon The title, from reading the Kanji, it's Legend of Magnificent Yari Shinrai (probably Imoto original Japanese release name).
Hanferd It's been forever since I played the Japanese one, but I don't think there was much different. The game didn't have much of a story to begin with. The US version did censor out the character for manji, though. You know, because people would automatically assume the worst when the saw the 卍 kanji, and would never bother educating themselves enough to learn otherwise
I can't help but question Imoto as a name though. Like maybe it wasn't intended to be the guy's name, but rather the girl's? If they translated 妹 (imouto) as his name, it'd be pretty damn funny since it's the equivalent of "little sis," and can be used as a pet name (and not just for literal family relation)
Is the story just simple? Strange and I was expecting the translation was lost or something, like Pocky and Rocky (Kikikaikai for SNES) when they removed any text during the cutscenes Oh yes, but in Japan, they don't really "give a shit" to censor the Manji symbol, as they just bluntly say "Don't like it, shit for you then". After all Manji been used for 2000 of years and Buddhist is probably the only people who still use it, as it fell out of favor in Europe.

I'm going to let's play it, but instead of being amazing like you I'll be cussing and raging the entire time. 😂🤣

Mt bom! O Snes teve grandes títulos q poucos conhece. Esse game inclusive, lembra o Castlevania, merecia ser traduzido para BR.
Man this brings back memories, rented this at blockbuster before
It looks difficult as hell.
Can we expect Maldita Castilla before the end of the month?

I thought this was an alright game. I will say that the controls are a mix between floaty and stiff.
this game is more like a prototype than a finished product... I'd have been pissed to pay full price for this back in the day.

the nazi one turns left instead of right.

Chunky's Page You're absolutely right, but how many people would readily recognize the difference?

How unfortunate.

That's me!1!1!1!1!1?1!1!1!!
Is this juniji ito based?
ROM in English Pleas 🙄
This game looks like a NES game. On the controls, on the graphics and on the shitness 😂 But more like a Good looking NES game though
It looks far from an NES game, sure the NES can create beautiful settings and characters but this game is far from looking like one.
Game looks pretty bad tbh
