for 8:54 the boss in the catacombs of Akuma is called Haniwa. It's the hovering creature that'll swoop down to take damage. As for the Samurai that looks like Among Us. That's its true form the Medamao.

I mostly liked this game for the soundtrack. Another Japanese horror game I liked was Kenseiden on Master System. I would love a modern remake of both. Well maybe not a remake exactly lol.
the sprite quality of this game sure is awesome and very detailed compared to most games of its time tho their animation is pretty stiff, shame the music and the gameplay kind of sucks and is too repetitive
i just beat this game ....but after the final boss the screen just faded to black and stayed there. does that mean I used too many continues? "bad ending" I guess......ugh

I got the same impression. The limited animations, the damage sponging bosses, the incredibly repetitive ways in which the bosses fought with their 1 or 2 different attacks, the rinse and repeat way they had to be dealt with, the fact that the player character keeps his standing position while jumping... This game reeked of cut corners.

In Shin Megami Tensei it's called Arahabaki. It can be a pain to fight, but not so worthy as an ally. Its peak was reached in the Nocturne episode.

There’s now a fan made sequel to Kenseiden as a homebrew release on the Genesis.
This is like Castlevania: Shogun Edition, but with a much lower budget.
This game has great music, to be honest.
