ActRaiser (アクトレイザー) is a 1990 platform and city-building simulation game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System developed by Quintet and published by Enix, combining traditional side-scrolling platforming with god simulator game. I beat this game once in my life, when I had the eagle eyes and quick reflexes of a 12 year-old. Nowadays? Forget it! This was the second SNES game I ever played, and has some amazing, atmospheric graphics, and a brilliant soundtrack! 🖖😀

This is one of the things that got “whitewashed” in the US version, due to Nintendo of America’s policy against religious themes: Note that the center head (and the final boss himself) have devil-like horns-and the game makes it clear that the final boss is SATAN.
In the American version, they changed the horns to lightning bolts, and named him “Tanzra” (though the horns can still be seen in the second phase of the boss fight.)
They seem similar for their crossover.
Bloodpool Act 2 boss reminds me of Dracula for some reason (probably the fact he's a cloaked nobleman who teleports and shoots 3 fireballs, and turns into a monster for his second phase, although obviously this one is a werewolf and not a vampire). This was an awesome game, I have fond memories of playing it as a kid.

He reminds me of Arugal from Shadowfang Keep in World of Warcraft, more like Arugal reminds me of this Actraiser boss.

If i am not mistaken. He lives in a castle near a lake of blood. And his chapter theme is fear. This kind of bring more vampire imagery.
The difficultly varies on this game depending on what port you are playing:
- American Port: easiest action stages
- Japanese Original: easier town building sections than the American port (weaker enemies and faster leveling up), but harder action stages.
- Pal Port: Has multiple difficulties for the action stages. Hard mode is more difficult than even the Japanese version. Pal also uses the American town builder difficulty.

Damn memories... I somehow beat this game with the Japanese version. Bruteforce my way through Japanese menu's.
Love that unique chopping sound. It's hard to describe, like beating a bundle of muscle and tendon at the same time an axe hitting a treetrunc embedded into it.
Gotta love when every time he attacks it sounds like he laughs with a really robotic voice.
I’m playing this game and this is exactly where I’m at. This game is awesome and it’s relaxing playing the building of the towns

hands down one of the MOST bizarre and difficult 2d platformer final boss fights. if i wouldn't have used an emulator and savestates possibly i could've never completed this game. its so insane but i guess rewarding as well

he got to the last boss with 2 pegs only, so he did get hit a lot in the boss rush, considering the speed of the bosses in there is just ridiculous, cant blame him though.. its hell
I think he played the regular bosses first, skipped recording of the boss rush until the very last boss.

Ah, my freshman year in college. During the summer I worked at McDonalds and quit after getting my second month paycheck. Went straight to Tysons Corner mall in Falls Church, Virginia and bought the SNES console. Luckily the Street Fighter II just came out and went ahead and got this game too along with Zelda: A Link to the Past. I had people coming to my dorm almost every night. The good ol' days!

The best sword fighting quest game I found for the SNES. I wish more sword Quest games would use this platform.
The background during the Artic Wyvern fight is pretty cool, really looks like you're fighting in a snowstorm.

great SNES master piece, so glad I grew up with it,,, only thing honestly is that, I only like the side scrolling moments the best,, not too fan of the whole over the head view parts, but HOW I ADORE THE COMBAT & LOOK of the 2D parts will love a remake of this master piece
In japanese version you can select Special mode where you'll play only 2D action stages.

SlimTank as far as snes side scrollers went it was pretty easy. Contra 3 was 10x harder same with any contra. I loved this game and beat it many times never beat the alien wars

Its not a boss rush. He posted clips of individual sessions where he took no damage, not back to back, so its still accurate.
