Apparently, Auron is one of the few FF characters who retains much of his original source's material in the KH franchise. Every other FF character is reimagined or slightly altered in some way.
They can't change a legend
I like to imagine that everything in KH2 is what happens in the brief time Auron is dead prior to FFX. He seems much younger, the memories you hear from the statue are specifically from his time with Jecht and Braska, and he still clearly feels personally responsible for what happened. When he disappears during the credits, he’s returning to Spira as an Unsent to go find Tidus.
All the casts from the Final Fantasy's from VI, VII, IX and X (except for Auron) they are all Variants from the real versions that we all know and love.
Auron is from the past prior to the real FFX, Squall "Leon" Leonhart is after the main events of FFVIII and Zack from Crisis Core FFVII is probably very before the whole FFVII franchise even begin and Zack was just a rookie soldier.
I like Squall in kh he's much better personality wise.

I like how Auron sees a dog, a duck, and a boy with a large key walk into the room with zero context and just immediately yells, “Fight!”
I guess he felt the Tidus-like protagonist energy emanating from Sora and instinctively knew they were allies.

Sora is the key, after all. For Auron to think he's okay enough to not assume he's an enemy. Must have sense felt Tidus somewhere in there.

When I played this as a kid I had not yet played FFX, still loved Auron. Now after playing FFX I am blown away with how good of an integration this is into the KH universe. I love the multiple meanings of "maybe you need a guardian". Would have been funny if Sora mentioned Tidus to him
It's weird seeing Auron without his shades.
Probably the only FF character they kept authentic to design, personality, and ideals. I love that he was the only one who was in your party. He’s my favorite FFX character, such a badass.
Except they sheared a good 45 pounds off him and took away his beautiful full lips... 😭

9:04 It’s refreshing hearing Auron speak of Lord Braska and Jecht. I would say his story was hard. it’s ending sure was, that’s certain. Luckily we know his story has an epilogue. One which gives him peace and fulfillment. Finally he can rest with his avenged friends. And when I say Rest In Peace, I mean in the Farplane not the Underworld.
I would really like it and I know the fans would love it if they came out with a FFx prequel
While it was a cool reference, in context to kingdom hearts lore there is like 0 possibility the events of FFX could happen due to Tidus lmao.

It's such a fanservice for the most popular character of each Final Fantasy (Auron) and Disney (Hades) franchise to fight each other and have interesting antics with each other.
Wish they brought Auron back for KH3, would have been kick ass!

Honestly if Nomura got to finish making his versus 13 I bet noctis would’ve been in Olympus and yozora would never have been created 👀
Auron Zac and cloud got a shoutout in the intro to Olympus 😂 that’s the best they could do. Aside from some dialogue from the crew in radiant garden

This was my thought as well, due to his younger appearance. I was like maybe this is before he returned to Zanarkand, just from the thoughts that went through Soras head when he touches the statue. All sound like quotes from when he was young. Idk it just doesn’t fit in any of the FFX timeline. I’m probably just over thinking it

Damn seeing that Auron shooting star combo really showed me how good this game was even back when they made it.
Fun fact: Auron limit with sora is his default overdrive in final fantasy 10. Requires buttons to press. But in kingdom hearts, triangle only is required.
Not only do I want to see auron again but maybe even the old destiny island pals all grown up (Tidus, Selphie and Wakka)
Maybe even give Tidus some interactions with Auron to make the FFX fans explode.

God I love that character
I love how Auron fights with only one arm in this game despite using both arms in the original FFX.
Well I see that as that is like right after he died which is why he can't use his arm in this game it's still crippled from his fight with Yunelesca.
Auron was easily my favorite character in ffx and probably my favorite final fantasy character overall. Mainly because when I was growing up in the 2000s and I got a ps2 for christmas or a birthday, among the first few games I got was ffx because my dad loved the final fantasy series and he let me play it.

I think this was the most interesting and creative inclusion of a Final Fantasy character into Kingdom Hearts. Plus it doesn't feel too far removed from the concept of Auron's original story.

When you play KH2 before FFX you'd never guess what Auron being a guardian means or the keyblade "Guardian Angel" didn't know until I started my first FFX playthrough recently and still learning of more as im progressing half way in the game. Same goes with Yuna and Rikku being related cousins and regular sized people lol I love the KH x FF collab stories
That's what makes kingdom hearts so great! It blends well with the final fantasy brand. 😊 unlike Disney 😒

You know what's really fun and I just realized that...In FFX,Auron has a signature skill called Shooting Star which OHKO's and removes enemies from the current battle.
Now if only he could do that here in KH2 XD

I place this inbetween braska’s pilgrimage and Yuna’s mainly becauae he looks alot more like his younger self. That also explains how he ended up in the underworld because he essentially rebeled against his religion.
Cloud soaks up too much spotlight. Anything he can do, Auron can do better...one handed. And that voice could read me the dictionary, and I'd sleep like a baby.
Auron does the whole stoic badass with a dark past thing way better. Since his original role was a mentor figure for tidus I'm glad they didn't change him that much.

This made me REALLY want to play Final Fantasy X. Going to get it as soon as I finish this game
Auron's unapologetically dry and cynical sense of humor alone makes him S tier character material for me. That "No wonder no one wants to die" line wasn't even overwhelmingly clever or thought provokingly funny. It's the subtle use of attitude in the way he says it that makes it so funny. Furthermore, when I first played KH2 (I was 12 at the time) I had no idea about Ronin Samurai culture and how Auron keeping is left arm tied in a sling fastened from his coat was an intentional nod to it. I thought he was sword fighting one handed because he had a broken arm. In retrospect I must've just really not been paying very close attention because it took until I actually played FFX that I realized he actually did use his non-dominant arm in his sword swings. But the very thought of a character so badass that he was willing to throw down with supernatural forces with a sword the size of a fuckin bullet train (I intentionally exaggerate that, of course) and use a single arm to do it instantly solidified Auron as one of my favorite fictional swordsmen when I was a kid.

Definitely not Hercules universe. The underworld is probably the default afterlife and is what spirits in the far plane experience. That's my theory at least
You know why i love this inclusion, because it fits his lore, i mean, he is in the underworld, and in ffx is revealed he was death the whole time, so yeah, it was a pretty cool detail

Amarant would have been a good character for this scene too. Not just because of the red-theming, but an anti-hero brought back from the dead to fight Hercules... but has enough goodness in him not to take the deal from someone like Hades, someone who might remind him of Kuja.

It's an old japanese ronin stereotype, essentially it's supposed to signify his loyalty to his dead master.

This just doesn't work. A serious character like Auron with serious backgrounds doesn't work when childish Disney is here and can't talk about more dark things. He can't even mention anything about death really, even though his character and Spira are centered around death themes. He just feels too restricted in this.

He's the only character that doesn't get bucherd like Tidus,cloud, Yuna's group and the others. It's kinda out of place where his character is not modified like the others. Really Kingdom Hearts is a preteen Introduction to somewhat mature final fantasy storylines, but waters it down by using meaningless nonsense that only worsens after kingdom hearts 2.

@@Devil_Slayer that's what happens when you get an artistic director to tell a story with characters he knows nothing about personality wise. Namoura is an amazing Artist but as a story director he doesn't seem to do a good job. Placing well developed and we'll respected characters into weird positions, changing their designs in which they make them more silly, remove their established character traits, Setting up major plot elements to early and half-assed explanations later with boring exposition duologue that's so bad he forgot to add the final fantasy rep for the third game and had to make Kingdom Hearts his Final Fantasy Versus XIII project and which I cannot take seriously as I don't know why it was named that. As much as I'm backtalking Kingdom Hearts it does something's right but I think it should've had experienced writers to make a better and less conflfuted story thats more unnecessary complicated then any Final Fantasy story.
