  • A simple way to make your own fish bait that works great in fresh or salt water and catches all types of fish and is almost free to make. I have caught Sheepshead sea trout in saltwater and every type of freshwater pan fish there is with this bait, turtles too.
    If you like to catch shrimp using a cast net this is good bait to make and leave out for a few hours to attract the shrimp. You can also use this bait in crawdad traps.
    I can almost guarantee you are going to be making this up after you watch the video.

    Take a cotton ball or 2. Fluff it up really good & mix it in your bait. Might help hold the dough ball on better. Just sayin.

      Hey Scott, thanks a lot for your tip. I remember that from years ago. It works pretty good. I want to epoxy some little metal wires to the hooks to help the bait stay on better. Also take off the barb. Unless I'm going to eat the fish. Thanks again for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.

      Hey Smith, thanks a lot for watching and commenting. I appreciate it. You are a real fisherman. So if you like it that makes me feel better. I am thinking about attaching something to the hook to make the bait stay on better. Also, since I don't eat a lot of the fish I catch I want to grind off the barb. I don't like it when I gut hook a fish with a barbed hook.

    I don't see myself using that experiment for bait but it's got to be awesome chum for bait fish and it should call in gamefish too. It should be excellent for shrimp chum, if you add a little sand it would be better for chum. I have a couple cans of mackerel I got to chum up bait, I think I'll mix it up and see what comes up to the pier.

    • @RobbsHomemadeLife
      @RobbsHomemadeLife  Год назад +1

      Hey, thanks a lot for watching the video, leaving helpful comment. I like the fact that it is easy to change the color of this bait. It will be fun to experiment with some fish that prefer certain colors that are similar to their food items.

    • @comfortablynumb9342
      @comfortablynumb9342 Год назад

      @@RobbsHomemadeLife I fish in the saltwater and the color doesn't matter much. I'd add red to imitate blood and so it's visible to me. But smell and little bits of food are important. A couple cans of mackerel and a loaf of bread and some sand work well for chumming up bait, and if you keep the bait close the bigger fish should follow and especially with the smell of mackerel in the water. If I try to put anything like that on a hook the croakers and spots will eat it before anything big can get it. But if you have a lot of spots and croakers eating chum and you use the little fish for bait you can catch something big. It's a good idea for the piers where I live because there usually aren't many big fish around. Maybe chumming would help.

    Robb. Be honest. Have you tasted them? 😂😵‍💫
    That Mayan looks to be a pretty stout pan fish. Are they good eating?

      Hey chops, I have not eaten any Mayan cichlids yet. I have watched a lot of videos where people ate them. And nobody said they tasted bad, but some people said they didn't taste that good. That sounds normal because it depends a lot on what a fish has been eating and what water it lives in. The mullet on the West Coast of Florida taste better than the mullet on the East Coast usually. Same fish. The thing about the Mayan cichlids is they are everywhere. I am going to catch some and grill them on my Panini Grill. I do the same thing with canned mackerel which is not a great tasting fish.

      Hey thanks a lot for watching the video and asking a good question you know I've never fished in your area and although I'm tempted to say of course this bait would work I have been skunked more than a few times when I was sure I had the perfect bait for the fish I was going after. I think this bait is so simple and quick and easy and cheap to make it would be worth trying the only negative about the bait is that it does not stay on the hook as well as I would like which is similar to all baits that are made from flour. You cannot cast it very far as it will want to come off the hook but it's great for dropping down off of Piers and docks and so on best of luck
