When “This Is Your Life” was originally broadcast, my brother and I found the percussions in the theme tune highly amusing. Now, I think that this was the greatest television theme tune ever !
Proper tv theme music. Back in the good old 70's & 80's when they never had announcers interrupting the end titles of tv shows with pointless information.
Totally love this theme. No updated theme compares. All the people I loved were alive and it just reminds me of being surrounded by them in the 1970s. *tear in each eye*
The Eamonn Andrews Show on ITV (ABC Weekend) in the 1960s had eventually to be recorded because of certain guests who resorted to double entendre on this late evening Sunday show. EA struggled to "keep it clean" and the watchdog ITA was on their case as it were. This Is Your Life had to be recorded as some guests and their friends and family kept swearing. Eamonn Andrews had to often change the subject as he himself was embarrassed by what he heard. Source Eamonn Andrews biography by Tom Brennand.
love it so remember watching as a kid in the 70's 80's so wish they would bring it back can you imagine them doing gaga, rhianna, or channing tatum or any of todays celebs would be brilliant!
I can just imagine the orchestra playing this in the 1960s or 1970s. The part at 1:00 that shows the ladies playing the instruments reminds me of back in the 1970s when your aunts etc used to wear those types of fancy colourful frocks and 1950s cat eye horn rim glasses or something similar. The good old days. I had to look up the name of the glasses, i wasn't sure what they were called
At least back in the old days they had proper celebrities on the programme who were recognised by everybody and had done something worth while, not like the so called celebrity eyewash of nowadays that appear on the tv for the first time one week then appear on This Is Your Life the following week. One thing that used to irritate me a bit was when the guests used to appear from behind the screen and say how fantastic the person is who was being presented with the red book, i bet half the time they couldn't stand the sight of them
If this show was revived by CBS in the 2000s in the USA and Canada: Michael Aspel: Tonight im here to say Regis Philbin, THIS IS YOUR LIFE!!!! crowd in the Live with Regis and Kelly studio screams standing ovation roll titles
Imagine what it would be like if it still aired now!!! WOAH! Like Justin beiber Taylor swift and other celebs could be on it.this was an awesome TV show
@Managuense1 You will find it on one of the Laurie Johnson CD's. Its sometimes credited as "Gala Performance" and sometimes "This is your life". He wrote lots of TV music including the Avengers theme.
As a child, I was always inspired by this theme. The composer was uncredited, as the theme was taken from a production library. It would be very hard to find production library music of this quality today. Massive sound, live musicians, and extremely well produced. Laurie Johnson (b. 1927) More info: www.imdb.com/name/nm0006145/
this is a classic theme to this is your life. Eamonn Andrews was the perfect presenter for this great programme.. R.I.P legend...
When “This Is Your Life” was originally broadcast, my brother and I found the percussions in the theme tune highly amusing. Now, I think that this was the greatest television theme tune ever !
One of the very few ITV shows not to have a commercial break.
Proper tv theme music.
Back in the good old 70's & 80's when they never had announcers interrupting the end titles of tv shows with pointless information.

This, and the 'Are you being Served' theme!
Totally agree - magnificent theme - what memories it conjures up! 🥹
@@UTubeAngelique Agreed! I looked this up, because I’m currently watching the episode of Are You Being Served, where they did Young Mr Grace! 😂
Brilliant theme tune
What a fantastic theme, great chords and counter melodies...loved the bongos at the beginning.
As they deeply penetrate you
Superb theme tune.. the stuff of my childhood! 💖
Eamon Andrews he genuinely loved this program
Eamonn Andrews. What an absolute legend.
A theme from my childhood.
Thank you.
Eamonn Andrews was a perfect Ambasssador for Ireland, Hugely respected, well-loved and a family man,. Not like the utter filth on TV these days.

I always liked the way Eamonn Andrews always said This is yuuure life.
When true Hollywood greats were honoured .
Lol @ 'WITH BONGOS" - True too! I love this theme music, it's so nostalgic! :)
Top tune. I'd love to hear a modern recording of that arrangement
it's beautiful.
When stars were stars
They should play this kind of music in cinemas in the run-up to a film and during intermissions.
Takes me back...... seems like a different lifetime ago...whatever happened to living a more relaxed carefree life.
Amazing music
This is the proper This Is Your Life theme music - WITH BONGOS!
Not like that watered down rubbish on the Michael Aspel version!
love it so remember watching as a kid in the 70's 80's so wish they would bring it back can you imagine them doing gaga, rhianna, or channing tatum or any of todays celebs would be brilliant!
This piece of music Is known as gala performance.
Sounds like something you'd hear in a James Bond movie
Utterly brilliant. Cliché alert but they really don't make them like this anymore.

Thanks for uploading! Such a tune - great brass stabs. I've got the chords as something like (?):
Am7 C7#9/A
Dm9 Edim
C6/G D9#11/A
Gm7 - G13 C13
Happy days
been looking for this version in full for ages...excellent!
i've used this as an ending theme to my radio shows....will do again.
This theme was not used on the original BBC series of 1955-64.
and there here tonight it's the cast from The Bill!
@Managuense1 The composer is Laurie Johnson and its original title is "Gala Performance".
You get the feeling that Eammon Andrews wouldve presented this programme for nothing
I think so too!
Composed by Laurie Johnson, hence its similarity to the "Avengers" theme. This tune's actual name is "Gala Performance". And how good it is. Classy.
@Managuense1 9:20am here on Sunday morning. I am in Scotland.
Classy easy listening....
....i remember this prog well!
Eamonn Andrews is like a 1970´s version Dara Ó Briain
@Managuense1 Look on Amazon for Laurie Johnson Cult TV Themes. Its on there and credited under both titles.

Yes it is
Madrababy-the music is by Laurie Johnson the the music title is called Gala entertainment available from Amazon.uk
They should bring it back, as a cover for Operation Yewtree.
theres a real swing to this song.
Just came here to say
WHAT A FOOKIN TUNE MON!!!!
Kindy funky,,,,, tune but seriously Eamonn Andrews was great
That was cool, thanks. Though there's something about that melody I always found a little creepy.
Whoah. What happened to the house?
I agree
Imagine what it would be like if it still aired now!!! WOAH! Like Justin beiber Taylor swift and other celebs could be on it.this was an awesome TV show
We're doing it for my mum's 80th next month!

"..and here I am , disguised as the usher..." then peels off the wig , moustache, and the star goes "WTF! " :) Loved this a kid.
This song will be playing at my funeral as I enter the furnace.
Being cremated in Barrow, are you? ;-)

Shame that Australia/New Zealand is the only countries of this This Is Your Life franchise that is still going strong today
I used to find this tune scary when I was very young!
the man with the red book

KPM library disk composed by Laurie Johnson.
You can take that the right way

Will they play this when am dead abs say this was your life
sounds like a John Barry / Phil Spector collaboration... nice
This is very 60s!
First heard in 1969 on the Thames ITV revival of TIYL, so its only just made it before 1970 .
I want a clip of the brief intro music you got when every guest came thru the slidy doors!
I think you should now post all the play-ons for the guests - there were between three or four if I remember rightly?
Bring back the bongos!
So so true!!
I remember telling my mum that Eamonn Andrews gave up boxing because he beat a man to death in the ring once and she believed me.
It has a 60s spacey sci fi theme to it I think.
Bring on the childhood horror, wat's next, Crossroads?!😱
Only boomers would luv those bongos!!😨😱💀😆
Oh TV May be better made in some ways but it’s lost it’s soul.
