  • Make Your Own Awesome Woodturning Lathe Tool - The Knocker Outer!
So I was getting annoyed by the need to use a steel rod and hammer to knock out the Spur (or Drive) centre from my wood lathe whenever I needed to use a faceplate or chuck.
I decided to try an idea I had to use a sliding hammer style instead.
It actually does work very well but if/when I do it again I will make the 'hammer' a little larger/heavier.
Eagle eyed viewers may notice that I have extended the rod a little longer - you can just see the braze weld line. I did this to make sure of the force applied to the action. It worked OK as it was originally but the slider stop was very close to the lathe so I extended it to be sure.
What do you think? Was it a waste of time or do you see this as a better alternative?

Thanks mate. It works well although like I said in the description I think I'll make the slide hammer a bit bigger next time. I also had camera focus issues that I didn't realise until too late 😒

@@makermark1 Generally you don't really know how well something will work until you've made one and tried it out.
Camera issues suck, we've all been there, I went through 4 months of videos with super dark footage forgetting that I'd put a shaded lens on the camers while taking pictures in summer 😂 Or that time iMovie decided on its own to export 480p videos, took me three to realise. Proper frustrating sometimes haha!
