Very helpful! I have been looking into rowers for several months. This review - as well as your summary head-to-head comparison on the Hydrow, Aviron, Regatta and NordicTrack RW900 (older model) was also very helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to do this.
I ended up getting the Aviron it came Tuesday and I love it. Haven't fully experienced everything on it yet but I love that it has you tube and I love the training tall 8 week course which I have started. It's a lot of fun! I'm still working on my forum and will be slow at it for a while but it's still a good workout and I love it so far.
Great to hear! It keeps getting better! Don't worry about taking your time. The form and control will come over time. Enjoy the journey and one great workout!
Deciding between Aviron and Hydrow. Leaning Aviron. Big Plus is use can use it manually being able to adjust resistance, and Hydrow doesn't allow. Hydrow has these Rower on water ride alongs but I wouldn't really call them instructor led. Mostly they are just talking nonstop and not really instructing you, and can't see their form well from side as in many rowing classes as with training tall, etc.... Personally I would rather be rowing along in beautiful scenery and when want instruction I would like real form and intensity instruction and not nonstop chitchat. Both of these Rowers have power to continually update and add content Aviron CEO and community very responsive and helpful. So much more variety! At 1st was hit with adds constantly for hydrow with more celebrities and big money backing it up. Looked great. But when looked at what they actually offered I was disappointed. They really should add option to row manually while adjusting resistance-that is huge drawback🙄
From my experience, both were amazing rowers but with very different features and content. So, it really becomes a decision to figure out which one matches your exercise personality better. Normally, I would ask questions and try to help someone out but reading your comment... you sound like you are already leaning in a direction and it does sound like the right decision for you! 😀 Best of luck and hope you absolutely love whatever you decide to go with!
I have the same dilemma. I’m leaning more towards the Aviron as well. Mainly due to the rower providing workout metrics and history even if you don’t opt for the membership. There’s a just row function in the Hydrow but it doesn’t track/record your workout session, which to me is a bummer. Another minor thing for me is the dimension of the fold of the Aviron. The Hydrow folds too but the height is about 86 inches where the Aviron is about 50 inches, which is perfect for folding and storing on my basement.
You can adjust the resistance on the Hydrow. They used to do rows where you would adjust it half way through, I haven’t seen one of those in a while. They did add a whole instructional series to help train the rowing stroke, and they do a lot of instruction in their warm ups and cool downs.
I have not but I know they have conversations about this in the Facebook group. I would recommend looking through there and see what users are saying (I think people mostly love both) facebook.com/groups/avironactive/permalink/1189817718278643/
Yup, you were correct. And if you want to watch shows or be able to hear the content, it is a good idea. The rower makes a lot of wind noise so it can be hard to hear your shows.
Great idea to do comparisons between rowers. A comparison between Aviron and Ergatta’s games and anything else software related would be great. How often do they upgrade their OS. What changed do they bring? Number of games added every month. Stuff like that. I went with Hydrow.
I'm waiting om my Aviron! The Facebook Community had a lot to do with my decision plus the founder Andy responds to everyone and they seem like a good company. I'm going into my 4th week at the end of this week and it's taking like 6 weeks. They were out of parts for a bit. I could of already had a rower had I chose another but Aviron seems like so much fun. Haviong You tube was a plus for me too in getting this one and now they say Neflix and Prime are coming to it.
@@RockinRose I think that’s great. It gets more people into rowing. While you’re watching your show you’re also rowing , so it’s a win win. When I want to row, I can’t do anything else but that. Otherwise it’s like watching Netflix while you’re playing tennis. 😂 I wouldn’t use it for movies. But there are a lot of RUclips videos with people rowing, and those can be very helpful.
I've had a couple updates since I got my Aviron in March. And more is coming. I love it! And am so glad I chose that one. They just added some more content with the last update. But I love having Netflix, Hulu, Disney and You Tube and Prime is also coming.
I'm leaning towards the Aviron. I have a minor concern that the tablet doesn't have high enough specs that could limit longevity due to Android OS updates and graphically demanding content. Some of their competitors are in the same boat in this regard.
Yeah, they seem to be handling it well now but there might be limits to the quality/intensity of games based on hardware limits. I am sure there are, I just don’t know where that line is.
@@Learnwithtravis I do think even Ergatta's tablet that has half the RAM and storage space will suffice for the next few years. I'm just used to buying laptops, tablets, and phones with higher specs than the base model.
I am the same way, but this is not like a computer where you are always pushing the limits with new software. They have to design within their limitations and so far, that has been impressive from both sides.
I don’t have plans to get that one at the moment but I will keep it on the Radar. I am guessing the experience is close to the RW900 so maybe watch that to see iFit in a rower.
Only problem is that workout history IS NOT saved while streaming. Say NETFLIX for example. At the end of the hour long show, none of the data and workout is saved to your profile. Whether signed into account or not, unless I haven’t seen it, none of the workout metrics are saved when you stream you tube, Netflix, Amazon, etc.that’s very disappointing. Hopefully it’s user error but haven’t seen anything to say other wise
Very nice! Quite a few of the rowers have companion apps that I believe allow you to get to their content. IFit and Hydrow might be worth looking into.
Nice review about the Aviron rower. I decided to go with the Pro-Form Pro R10 Rower and it has been great. Going on day 8 with a row machine in the house. Did Aviron give you a free trial for their membership when you bought it?
Thank you so much! Great to hear your rower has worked out so well. Aviron actually sent me this rower and covered the subscription fee. I completely forgot to mention this in the reviews (Hydrow, Aviron, & Ergatta) because I have always bought my own products for review (My Fault!).
Great review, as always. I would love so see the comparison between the Ergatta and Aviron…. especially on the ergonomics side of things. I first got the Hydrow… loved the machine but got bored with the classes. I just got an Ergatta… I love the content, but because the foot plates are so close to each other, they hurt my private parts really bad. The seat is another one with a bad design. These are problems that I never had with the Hydrow. So far… what is the most comfortable rowing for you? Thanks
Thanks Luiz. That is a comparison I am planning on doing. Honestly, they have all been comfortable for me. I think I am just lucky and by body type is compatible with these (long skinny legs). I took a quick look and the Aviron does appear to have a wider foot stance than the others so that might be helpful. I will try to take a closer look.
@@Learnwithtravis I'm also curious about foot placement/width as well. i think i need womewhat wider placement but am not sure. It seems to me that the Aviron is widest of the top rowers as best as i can tell. I'm surprised this isn't an adjustable feature on top rowers.

Someone needs to make a high quality rower like this without the 50 dollar a month requirement for membership.
That would be nice.

If we could only mesh them together and have everything in one rower!

I just talked to Aviron about this, and sadly no. Without a sub only the metrics and stats screen is available.

Nordic track rw900 verses the aviron? Which do you prefer and why?
