My gym grade in high school legit improved because of Haikyuu. I suddenly felt like I understood volleyball, I found it fun and improved rapidly in class. I also picked up basketball again in college because of Kurokos Basketball, and found the motivation to keep running by watching Run With The Wind. The motivational power of sports animes is no joke lol
Oskar your school's technical skills must be truly terrible to be helped by something as arbitrary as a tv show
@@Ghidorah96 Yes, not everyone lives in America. Also, the point was that I suddenly found the sport fun and understood the rules and positions better. That made me like volleyball, which then made me put in extra effort (on my spare time as well). Understanding the game youre playing is obviously a huge part of sports as well, and I really did feel like the knowledge I gained from watching instantly made me a better player by itself.
@@vale-zk3ut did you mastered the emperor's eye?
I started basketball because of Kuroko too!
I played volleyball because of haikyuu

This burn, I felt it.
The joke is funny and I was rolling but tsm has done well in certain games, like fortnite for instance. Tsm khanada has won a few solo tourneys and tsm zexrow, tsm mackwood won 2 major squad and trio events. And the original squad of myth, hamlinz, dae, and camils were thought to be the best team in the whole fortnite scene back in the first few seasons.

Assassination Classroom maybe?
Yeah the exams in Assassination Classroom were intense. Giant monsters and coliseums for symbolism, it was crazy.
@@adora_ble_ yeah but Assassination Classroom was more of a life lesson GTO type of show instead of "shonen-izing" the school experience.
I think I've seen one a manga/anime about an high school students getting to the best universities and the only chance for people to get in is to cheat, or this is just my story that I made up while I was trying to sleep late at night
Dude I liked the Haikyuu exam prep episodes, they were cozy af
Yeah if the comedy is good in those kinds of eps then it's great
True af
Me too, those exam prep episodes were a good chance to spot light the strengths of side characters and see fun character dynamics.

Yeah it was a nice break from the constant volleyball
I remember that statistic a while back which revealed that the enrollment of boys playing volleyball in Japan doubled after Haikyuu got popular. Anime can be a gateway for any hobby or activity or sport and that's what's amazing.
I heard the same thing with agriculture school after silver spoon

There’s a fencing manga called attaque, I think, I read a while ago.

Well as someone who really likes sport series, i admit that Haikyuu has the best animation out of all sports series, but the story is actually not really that good. Im more of a manga reader, so i'll choose slam dunk and eyeshield 21. No offense to haikyuu fans, maybe it just a matter of preference

I loved the episodes in haikyuu where they being shown as High school kids (When they were forced to study..). It is these episodes that show us that their situation is similar to ours, they also need to go through the shit that we do. Just being good in a particular sport doesn't mean that they would be excluded from this study shit..

The studying episode also played with our expectations. In anime usually the cool talented dark hair type is also school smart but haikyuu told showed us that it's honestly a weird expectation

It's like he could use just 1 (one) frame from Haikyuu and I'm instantly gonna want to watch it again
Ye same here

The reason I love haikyu is that it really captures how it feels to actually play volleyball. The balls that land inside your court before you even get the time to try to get them. How good it feels when you get a good set. (And the feeling when you give a good set). It portrays the emotions of the game in a way that a real game can't. A real game follows real time. Haikyu follows emotion time. Making some of the Haikyu games feel more real than watching the real deal on TV. (Live is another story though. Indoor volleyball is too quick and complex for TV)
You forgot about the ultimate almighty sports anime...
Beyblade
Reminds me of a channel with a Finnish couple that does stuff like putting a red-hot chunk of metal on a snowman's head to watch it go through it. They actually made a massive chunk of metal into a beyblade and threw stuff at it after making it spin with some power tool.

Anime idea: Some children like to play tag, but it's completely over the top and full of symbolism. Like the fastest child shown as a lion in certain shots while the others are all kind of different animals. The protagonist starts of as a snail or something like that and after some time they become faster and faster, turning into faster animals, until they can finally catch the lion kid.
Or, track..
This is the best idea I've ever heard.
As man who used to love playing tag as a kid i think tag the animation would be an amazing show lol

I love how sports anime treat senpai graduates as if they were dead.
"Senpai... please watch over us! This is for you!"
"We'll never forget what you taught us, Senpai... We'll fight even harder to protect what you cared about the most!"
"Though you're no longer with us, we hope our feelings can reach you, Senpai!"
Wish they did a sports anime where the protagonist loses in years 1 and 2 just to make it more tense
Senpai are just sacrificial lambs for MC's development lol
+Nikolas Melo well that KINDA happened in Diamond no Ace, they lose the first year Koushien(the summer games where it ALL matters and whatnot), the protag develops a PTSD and the senpais retire to prepare for college exams so...... Haikyuu and Hanebado have been my favourites of the genre.
Hanebado also turned into a surprising chance to let me have more time with my father. He turned 65 this month and I thought I'd watch it for the first time with him on a whim since he played badminton till he stopped only a few years ago. During and after, he'd tell me that the show is relatable and he gets what the show was doing like a player's positioning and mentality.
He's closer to a traditonal Chinese man, so it's always a surprise for me to be able to watch an anime with him. Makes me wish that in younger years I had gone way more ham into soccer (Sorry Gigguk, I'm Canadian,) so I'd have my own little sports anime world with him beside.
Idk why I felt commenting this, just seemed nice to think about.

Nah. Because its an anime u always know who´s gonna to win.
I agree. I think one of the most powerful thing about sports anime is that the stakes are low enough that the main team can always lose. Like, the stakes matter, we know how much they want to win, but the show can still continue just fine either way. You can't get away with something like that when the entire universe is at stake.
While not quite sports anime, I think bakuman utilized this the best. Was always on the edge of my seat waiting to see the rankings.

You mostly can't add anymore greatness into this Video
My people I’ve found you
because of Kuroko no basket my life changed a lot, I started playing basketball and found a lot new friends, without kuroko no basket I would not be the person I am today
I had the opposite journey with sports anime; they’re what got me into anime. I’ve been playing volleyball since I was ten, and when I learned about Haikyuu I gave it a chance. I loved it and wanted to watch more things like it. On an unrelated note, as a Swede it’s nice to see that you chose Zlatan’s goal. It’s certainly iconic.
"SERIOUSLY!! WHO LIKES SEEING PEOPLE ANXIOUSLY STUDYING I MEAN ITS LITERALLY SO DISTRACTING FROM THE PLOT-"
Me: *slowly raises hand*
I feel you 😞🖐️
I was already a volleyball player before Haikyuu but I got way more into it after watching the anime

In defense of the homework episodes, those are actually some of the most relatable. In high school you aren't just an athlete, you are a student-athlete. Part of competing is making sure you are eligible to play, which leads to grades being one of the most stressful things about a sport. That state championship you wanna work towards, it doesn't exist if you're failing math. Wanna keep playing with your friends, then you better be ready for that final. Anime doesn't really represent the stress that comes with class work and school, but I would rather have it than not at all.
Damn Haikyuu's OST is so uplifting and epic af
Haikyuu and BNHA are the most motivating OST out there.
@@BeastRobinn Yup just go listen to any epic anime music and u will find at least Haikyuu's or MHA's OST wich are from the same composer so I can see why
Haikyuu is incredible

I'm so happy. Ippo finally getting the love it deserves. Also, a great baseball anime that HAS FINALITY is Major. Show starts with protagonist as a pre-schooler all the way to adult hood. The supporting cast is also around for the entire series, which is phenomenal to think about. There is even a follow up series for his own children!
But isnt that gonna be paced really fast? Speaking of baseball anime there's one outs which is basically baseball kaiji
@@steampunkofgondor2619 If it were just a couple of seasons it would be, but it is over 150 episodes if I remember correctly. Major is one of my favourites. I have the manga series which I bought from Japan and it is 78 volumes :-o
I tried to do the Dempsey Roll in real life once. I snapped my ankles, almost threw out my back and the guy I was fighting knocked me out.
*Pathetic*
i guess you need to find your own special technique to make it work, and don't forget to shout it's name
Hahhaha nice
tfw no Diamond no Ace or Captain Tsubasa are included (or Area no Kishi, which is probably one of the best sports anime out there where people can actually die and female characters help the mc team git gud skill-wise)
also, in Haikyuu's defense, the homework/tests episode(s) had some of the funniest moments in the entire genre
I don't remember if Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru came before your video, but that one was set in college and it was pretty great overall
ok i was also hoping he would mention diamond no ace but like wtf :((
it's way too underrated
Then there's Cross Game which is pretty much a romance anime set to Baseball.
Also "Major "
Disagree with Captain Tsubasa. I liked it as a child but I grew out of it REALLY HARD. I realized that Tsubasa is just Kirito of sport anime. a "football god" from Episode 1
Other than brief stomach injury and ocassional shoulder injury, nothing bad happened to him and almost if not all of his teams ended up winning the championship titles.
AIR GEAR IS ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED ANIME IN THE WORLD
Because the Anime was crap compared to the manga, unfortunately. I could not go from that manga artwork to the Anime style . . I just couldn't. Didn't hear it was very good, either? I wish they rebooted it. It had a lot of potential to look nice, albeit the manga went bonkers after a while. .
i love that anime/manga, but that shit took a turn for the worse...(coming from someone that continued to read the manga after the anime ended)
THAT OPENING SONG
The manga is outstanding, especially if you're able to turn your brain off and just enjoy the madness.
BRO AIR GEAR IS MY FAVOURITE MANGA...they fucked the anime tho...BUT STILL THE BEST SPORTS MANGA..that's how I got into skating..ice skating...not Yuri...
daiya no ace legitimately got me into baseball, and because of that i got to watch the cubs win the world series as a fan. also im so hype that you not only talked about hajime no ippo but also showed a clip from the ippo vs mashiba fight because mashiba is my favorite character from hajippo lol
*scrolling down the comments hoping someone mentions diaya no ace* I'm actually surprised I did. 😭 its a good fucking anime !
@@u-moya3304 it really is!!!! i genuinely love all the characters with my whole heart and it's so easy to get attached to their character arcs. it's genuinely such a good feeling watching them grow and change and terajima isn't afraid to give them setbacks that they might not be able to overcome. also!!!! it gets you super invested in rival teams too because they get character development and arcs too which i think is so cool because i rly hate like. disposable characters who serve no purpose other than to get in the main character's way and never to be seen again lmfao.
(i just had 2 talk about this in hopes tht i can get another person 2 read this nd watch daiya so i have more ppl to talk to abt it with LMFAO)
I love Hajime no Ippo and Haikyu because they're definitely exaggerated, but it's to enhance the experience and action. Overall they're fairly realistic in the techniques, training, and skill levels of the characters
And, of course, they're great character dramas using the sort as a medium
Lol If Haikyuu is exaggerated then what is Kuroko no basket
the difference is that Haikyu doesnt have super powers unlike Kuroko
Haikyuu is the second most realistic sports anime that I've watched after Slam Dunk but I havent watched everything thats out there
Don't forget about Haikyuu's OST
@@everea6333 Kuroko, Prince of Tennis, and the like are full on power fantasy where the amazing abilities of the users go beyond metaphor or exaggeration and into Ultra Instinct
Still great and fun, but I personally prefer the more grounded sports anine
Wait. Initial D is a sport anime?
*PLAYS DEJA VU* MOM DONT DISTURB ME I AM DOING SOME SPORTS NOW
Rally is a real sport believe it or not.
Genius
Formula D is professional motorSPORTS centered around the art of drift, along with previously mentioned rally and gymkhana.
if you wanna call motorsport a "traditional sport" then yes it is, really it is a show that focused more on the actual actions in the sport than its characters though, which can mean it falls flat for a lot of people who arent interested in the ass pull driving techniques they say. One of those weird ones that made the anime driving feel more boring than real life motorsport (so long as you play eurobeat over an actual rally/drift event that is) and for the record I do love motorsport and have seen everything initial D there is
You may believe it or not, but after all of this time I always see Initial D not as a sport anime, but _art_
But I still agree that racings are sport. MotoGP is a sport, Formula 1 is a sport
And now the actual AE86 is expensive because Initial d made it iconic.
There is a literal Initial d Tofu tax on cars now.
well there was keiichi tsuchiya's drift movie that *intially* started the ae86 craze
i am not sorry for the pun
For some reason I wish I could double like your comment. I always assumed that the AE86 was still not too old when Tsuchiya's video came out, so prices wouldn't be affected.
I mean initial D raised the AE86 a little bit but classic Japanese cars are pretty much all appreciating right now. Once cars hit a certain point they will only ever go up in value
not saying that initial d didn't raised up the price (as you know)... i would agree that it was initial d that really bumped the price up
To be fair the reason 86s are so expensive is because it started out as just a cheap entry level car then people started realizing how well it was at racing on hills in Japan and the old school drifters made it into a vehicle that everyone wanted because it was cheap at the time and easily modified same thing happened to the S13 S14 and basically any old Japanese "sports" car easy to modify and fun to drive.

Itadaki no keshiki always makes me emotional
Have you heard the Initial D soundtrack? Nothing beats that

I don't like sport animes
Because they make me want to go outside to play sports with friends instead of wasting my time on the internet
You my friend are a man/women of culture
shame on them i don't have friends!
Friends what's that ? Can you eat this ?
This is definitely one of his best videos..god I can't stop rewatching this.
Ippo is actually my favorite anime. I think it does the "weakling becomes a badass and you see it happen" story better than anything else. Wish they would continue it..
Does it have a satisfying end point? I want to try it out but not if it doesn't end well.
@@KennethSee it doesnt end well in my opinion. I dont like the ending and it just drags on and on. I enjoyed it but the ending just made it look bad imo
the ending is very good in my opinion. it is DEFINITELY worth watching the older version (depicted here) before the newer one which is on crunchyroll. the story ties in.
Curious Wars same!!
I mean technically it haven’t ended since the manga is still ongoing
Your music choice always astounds me. Especially the pullback and crescendo at 14:57 hit me right in the feels and brought me to tears. This is a fantastic tribute to sports anime it complements the genre perfectly.
He mostly used Haikyuu's OSTs. Go give it a try. ;)
I loved Haikyuu! I especially loved its OST, it really brought the show to a whole new level
Bruh this mans is crying at an anime video lol
i mean haikyuu's still pretty realistic in every aspect... besides the fact that Hinata has a 55 inch vert LUL
Arcturus Chung Lee Yes, the same as Hajime no Ippo. As exaggerated and hyped as the moves can be, nothing is actually unreal (well, except for the way they portraied the Dempsey Roll and a move called "shotgun" from a minor character early on in the series)
yeah, the animation is exaggerated to show the emotion and sensation of the moment, but the action itself is realistic for both
The heart shot that stops your movements is also unrealistic but besides that there's not much that isn't physically possible.
but isn't the world record like a 63 inch vert? but then a gain, 55 is still a bit stupid
I'm pretty sure its 63 inches on a box jump/ the tag pole isn't necessarily the most accurate. + ruclips.net/video/tn0lqMuGguw/видео.html so idk LOL
I was expecting him to say “sports anime isn’t about the sports, it’s about the friends we made on the way”
