Antique Circular Tile Cutter - Restoration - WorkshopDC
Hi guys How are you doing?
In today's video I show you how to restore an Antique Circular Tile Cutter.
This floor saw is very good and was produced by the company Fermat, which manufactured this type of tool.
I couldn't find information about when it was made, but the piece may be more than 60 years old.
I started to disassemble the part, it was not a difficult job.
Everything was quite rusty and had surface damage.
After all the part was disassembled I washed it with a degraser, which worked very well and removed all the dirt and a good part of the old paint.
To remove the rust I used hydrochloric acid, very efficient to remove even the deepest spots of rust.
To start the restoration I removed some cast imperfections with the file, then brushed and painted with primer and spray with the color of each piece.
I did this with the foundation and also used filler to fill in some spots left by rust.
To restore the plastic handle I used the vise and removed some marks, sanded and applied wax to give it a matte shine.
I brushed some other parts and also remove the imperfections with the file.
For the spring and washers I cold blued and left them in the engine oil.
I also brushed and sharpened the drill bit and the tip that cuts the tile on the bench grinder.
I restored all the screws and nuts by brushing them, and applied a protective coating so they don't rust again.
It also replaces the rubber that supports the tile while it is cut.
With all the parts ready now I can assemble the piece.
It was quite easy to assemble too.
I also did a small test with a porcelain tile.
It works great, but it's a very noisy tool to work with.
