After watching so many other reviews of this nature (and where someone stands in a bone dry shop or room and then tries to tell me how good and dry the product will be ) it’s fantastic to see a REAL life review in the real world!
When searching for the perfect rain jacket, I came across this video. I ended up buying this jacket. I’ve been wearing it for a couple years now and it hasn’t let me down yet. For the price, they are the best. Marmot, in my opinion, make some of the best rain jackets out there.
Thank you for a review that I have never seen before, that was amazing that you stood under a waterfall and tested that jacket out, to me that was the ultimate test. You definitely deserve more subscribers to your channel, that was a excellent review.
Cheers for the review mate, brought one off the back of your recommendation and gave it a run out in the Brecon Beacons over her in the UK ,great bit of kit
I have a gore-tex coat and insulation coat, both are packable and light. I can wear both or just one. Whatever the weather the 3 layer system keeps me warm, cool and dry, which I ever i need. If I don't need the gore-tex layer I pack it in my bag. I also have gore-tex trousers in case I'm caught in heavy rain . When I'm commuting to work having the gore-tex and my 3 layers keeps me protected from any weather . I'll tell you the perfect 3 layers: 1 - Gore-tex outer shell 2 - Montane prism jacket 3 - Marino wool half zip jumper (or under armour heat gear base layer, or both to make it 4 layers) And add leather gloves with wool lining. Gore-tex boots, Marino wool socks. And you're in beast mode. Everything is warm, rain proof and quick drying. Don't forget to mention all items are light and packable.
I have owned this jacket for 3 years and and have found it to be untrustworthy for really wet weather over long periods. it failed me after around 1 year of use on a trip into the mountains in a snow storm, it soaked through in the wet New Zealand Bush and saturated me and I had to leave the trip as a result. I think it relies on a good DWR coating for its performance in truly wet weather. it's size, packability, and venting are it's strengths. Long story short. Don't expect this to withstand long periods of heavy rain
Hi & thanks for sharing great information & review on this very good outdoor Gortext jacket.I got mine today in Black I lov it,I am 1.72cm tall & my weight is 196lb got it in size L fits well just a little long on arms.
Love it when people actually drench the so called water proof item!! just recently realized the DWR coating on these things is what gives them their power -but it does wear off after about 2 years give or take -my MARMOT just stopped repelling water -i have yet to try to re-activate the Dwr coating which they say works by re-spraying it on??
there seems to be a bit of a problem with the video. It's spazzing in and out. Maybe it's just my computer. Question: How would you rate breathability? from drysuitknitted sweater>>>>t-shirt.
This is actually a very normal test for ice climbing gear. I wonder why there is no significant shedding or beading we expect to see on new shells with versions of DWR treatment in addition to coatings or waterproof linings.
Hey nice review. I just purchased the same jacket with precip pants. Did not have a chance to use it but I'm now confident I made a good purchase. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Yes, totally agreed, what really is the point of some guy standing in a studio saying, "it's light and waterproof", thanks for watching, like and subscribe.
I dont see the exact one for sale anymore, but the newer version of this that they now have is : the Men's NTS Mid 250 Zip T. Look that up. I think this is the one.
I bought this jacket its stunning ! BUT I stood in the shower to test it. I put tissue paper in the chest pocket + when I checked later it was bone dry !
Exactly the kind of jacket I'm looking for, living in the Uk is very unpredictable and while hiking through fields in the middle of nowhere I have often been caught in heavy rain in my so called waterproofs only to find they are not, don't suppose they do some trousers equally as waterproof with zip pockets and hard wearing ,I do a lot of trail walks and need some trousers that will take a bit of punishment.
shut up bry 300 everyone knows you can’t afford it lol just get a few trash bags to wear when you dig throw the trash like a poor kid loser lol. next time you will not say lies lies to try to look for any cool likes and subs to your channel loser
Your review was meticulous and very informative. I am planning to move to Norway for couple of years. Could you please suggest what type of clothes I need to carry right from base layer to jacket, assuming I will be doing normal activities.
Nice video but what about length of time? What if you were in the woods say at a national park. Its pouring rain and you have a two hour walk back to cabin. Would you be dry wearing this jacket? Five minutes under a waterfall is nice but what if a person works outdoors and is outside for a few hours? Nice but lacking in proof other then jacket inspection. I wear for-tex boots and they all get wet.
In terms of thickness how does this compare to The North Face Apex Flex GTX jacket? I imagine the two are very similar in both form and function since they both claim to be a hooded full waterproof Gore-Tex jacket?
+ReviewOutdoorGear i can understand that, what i want to say is this kind of clothes ar better when you test it under more realistisc situation. Than you know fore sure iff this is really waterproof.
Greetings, I would like to know if these kinds of coats come in children’s (boys) sizes? My grandsuns school encourages outside play in the rain and snow, so, I am on the lookout for winter wear that will keep him as dry as possible. Thanks
I, too, have the Aegis rain jacket, Outdoor Gear jacket of choice in their rain jacket review. However, the Aegis has been DISCONTINUED & is no longer manufactured by Marmot.
Nice video! After the waterfall, you should have jumped up and down, do pushups, and see what happens! The entire inside would be steamed wet! Then go with a plastic bag into the waterfall, and repeat. The difference? The pitzips and the breathability when dry and the price. When wet, this is just another bag of plastic.
Didn't take long to wet out. Stay in there for a few more minutes and the inside will start to get wet. I now hate my Minimalist jacket because of this. Can't rely on this jacket if you're going to be out in the rain longer than 30 minutes.
Gore-tex paclite is supposedly a thin, not so durable waterproof. Do you think it is 28000mm in water resistance as the normal gore-tex or less? I got several other waterproof/breathable jackets, one being a MILO Mavo from around 2009, and walked around in medium to heavy rain (raining in London) for an hour, wetted out, but never got wet inside. It is 10K waterproof only. Would you say the Minimalist jacket would not perform the same?
I've worn this in rain many times over a period of more than years and have had absolutely no issues with any leaks. Make sure what you are noticing isn't just perspiration.
I should have mentioned that I was carrying a day pack and the hydraulic pressure pushed the water in around the shoulder and back area. Wasn't sweat at all. It was pretty cold that day and we weren't doing anything excessive. Only jackets I can compare this to are my old Timberland waterproof rain jacket with a non-breathable pu coating and a company issued custom Gore-Tex pro shell jacket I've had for many years. I never had leakage problems with either of them. I still need a lightweight rain jacket but I may try something else.
im sorry but 30 secs under a waterfall hardly says its great... do a full day in torrential rain in scotland then come back and give a review ok cheerz

Amen, mine still going strong
Jacket still going STRONG!
+ReviewOutdoorGear What size are you wearing ? Can you measure dimensions and tell us ?
What would you say about breathability and in comparison with the north face dryzzle?
Braden York going strong still
@@ReviewOutdoorGear no leaks or delamination? mostly in town use or backcountry with backpack too?
@@ReviewOutdoorGear have you re-apllied any dwr to keep it from soaking up water or not?

Best review and actual test of this jacket.
Great job man, thorough, and ballsy! informative and entertaining!

Great review. Thanks. I'm gonna buy this one.
Good information there. Thanks for the tip for packing the jacket into the hood. I don't think I'll need a stuff sack after watching you.

Yeah, I'm buying it now! Hope you made it home, and keep up with the waterfall review, it's awesome!

Perfect way to test a waterproof jacket

very cool jacket. Thank you for the review.
you needed some sealskinz gloves before doing that
I have here a smartwool layer. its just a think undergarment. It's one of my favorite pieces by far!

Awsome review
Good video man. Why didn’t you wear gloves? Looked absolutely frigid.
Your review was meticulous and very informative. I am planning to move to Norway for couple of years. Could you please suggest what type of clothes I need to carry right from base layer to jacket, assuming I will be doing normal activities.
***** , what kind of activities are the clothes for?
Normal day to. Day activities, no much of outdoor sports.
These are 15 ozs which is pretty heavy compared to most. Im assuming thats the gore text.
The water didn't even have time to permeate the fabric and it was mostly on your back. The phone pocket didn't even get really tested.
To get that amount of water on you from just rain would take you a long time. Plus, I was freezing. Sorry man.
What size is he wearing? How tall is he and how much does he weigh? Other dimensions would be helpful.
I think they did at one point. Problem is that I don't know for sure which year mine is from :(
I appreciate the sacrifice
good review
which size this jacket is?
Very nice review! What about the adidas terrex icefeather jacket? Thank!
Hello , i 'm thinking of buying this jacket but i don't know what size should i get M or L i'm 1.80cm 80kg is this jacket too tight?

Nice review and very informative.
Hey, did the design of the minimalist change? for this year? Because it definitely was able to be packed itself in the left pocket.
In terms of thickness how does this compare to The North Face Apex Flex GTX jacket? I imagine the two are very similar in both form and function since they both claim to be a hooded full waterproof Gore-Tex jacket?
Hey, great test. I want to buy this jacket, I am 178cm/75kg, would you recommend size M or L? Thanks
🤦🏻♂️😂 could have just tested it in the shower... geez that looked cold!
What is your height and weight and what size are you wearing? Thanks!
+Junglist82 I'm about 180 and about 6'. This is size medium
The long zipper that zips close the jacket, is it waterproof as well or just the side pockets have waterproof zippers?
Its the Best Test! Tanks! What about weight of this jacket?
459 g for M size :)
Any idea how this compares to their Evodry Torreys jacket?
You are nuts 😄👍 great review, thanks
What boots are u wearing? Thanks
they are the Zamberlain Vioz GT 996, here is my video about them: Zamberlan Vioz GT 996
Could you do a review of your Smartwool layer, too?
What is the price of this jacket ??
May I ask what pants you were using? Thanks
Good question, I’d like to know too. I’ve just purchased the marmot percip full zip pants waiting for them to arrive.
Great test review. Since there are so many Goretex material, like Pro, 2 or 2.5 layers or 3 layers it is hard to actually see durability.
Hi, I have the same question about the fit for this Jacket, I´m 1,70 cm and 71 kg... Would you recommend the M or S?? Thanks and great review!!!
I would say medium. A bit lager size would allow you to have more layers underneath if needed.
Love the vid. And Love the waterfall part. haha.
Do you have a video about your pants? What model are they? Thanks
hi,is that Hurricane Pant? how is going about your pant, is wet inside?thank You! and its a great video! i have two minimalist and they are perfect.
These pants stayed dry during the test. I later switched them out for some REI Event rain pants.
Hi there..what size are you wearing? Thx😊
Medium
Thank you very much! Excellent review 👏
Looks like you should go up a size
Why is there no waterbeading?
how does this compare to kuiu rain gear?
It,s nice but the test doesn,t count you stay there to short, it have to be longer at least 1 hour.
+MsDeleeuw Didn't feel like dying that day.
+ReviewOutdoorGear i can understand that, what i want to say is this kind of clothes ar better when you test it under more realistisc situation.

I don't think it comes in children's sizes, sadly.
Try Helly Hansen jacket they are a great company and really good water proof jackets.
@reviewoutdoorgear what pants is that. I need waterproof jacket and pants
What baselayer you are wearing?
+Felipe González smartwool
How durable is it?
Great....i want to know the pant...

I, too, have the Aegis rain jacket, Outdoor Gear jacket of choice in their rain jacket review. However, the Aegis has been DISCONTINUED & is no longer manufactured by Marmot.
Whatever its replacement will be, I'm sure that it will not be all that different from its award winning predecessor.
thanks :) Ordered
Definitely the medium.
Best test for waterproof would be to wear it all day in constant rain.
+superbike1 worm for many years in many rains - still awesome! No leaks.
