So, question...what do you do if your name has a suffix? (Jr., Sr., II, III, etc.) There's no field for it, nor is there any guidance about how to manage this in the Pi app and I hope this doesn't cause a problem for me.

There are ways to handle this, for example, by limiting the supply released to users via slowing granting wallets. This is a great solution because it'll let them see how the market reacts.

Hey there. Well. Good question. Keep in mind the founders have pre-mined Pi. I have no idea for how much. Also keep in mind that they currently own Pi with no public blockchain and no code review. So they could issue themselves as much Pi as they wish. They are their own central bank. They need to be careful with that power. If they give themselves too much, they'll lose trust and dilute their currency when it does finally get released. But to answer your question -- the founders SHOULD be in this both to get rich (both on Pi itself) and in the ability to create an entire company around the Pi ecosystem similar to how Facebook runs their entire platform. Just my guesses. I have no insider information here though I have talked to the founders once.

Hi Wes. Great video! I have a question that maybe you can answer in a future video. I am truly concerned and don't know if Pi Network is gearing up to become a true decentralized cryptocurrency or not. My fears come out of all this KYC being done. I believe a true cryptocurrency should eventually embrace any and all transactions, even anonymous transactions and wallet holders. This is what gives resilience to Bitcoin and may be Pi's downfall. The crypto community loaths government interference. If a government chooses to punish crypto-users they could easily subpoena all KYC data and penalize users. So I hope the KYC is just for the pioneer stage and for node operators but that eventually the currency could be traded and exchanged to anonymous users and anonymous wallets could be created. Otherwise I fear total failure and government manipulation. You have read the whitepaper, do you know the answer to this? Many thanks!
I do think it'll be decentralized in the sense that the network will be open and nodes will interoperate like many other cryptos. But I also question if it'll be open source and truly open. I think no, but we'll see. That isn't the end of the world but it does help. Keep in mind because Pi claims to use BFT, it must have some kind of KYC system in place since user identity is the critical lynchpin in the whole thing.

One question I have is this: if Pi ‘mining’ isn’t actually working on a blockchain, and is just simulated ‘mining,’ how do we know that this isn’t just a way to get a constantly-running data mining app onto everyone’s phone? They want your exact legal name, etc, which I understand, but wouldn’t that also be incredibly useful info for them to have if they were going to steal identities, bank accounts, trading accounts, etc? Most of us do everything on our smart phones now. You logged into your bank account (while Pi is ‘mining’). I love this question. It's something we should be concerned about with ALL apps that we install, including Pi. A few things that help. At least in iOS, it publishes the data collected. This is really important and helpful to understand what privacy concerns you should have. As you mentioned, Pi collects some data, which seems reasonable. There is always risk, however, when data is collected. Keep in mind, Pi's "mining" is really only comprised of a 24 hour check in, so you can close the app out of running except for the times you need to actually mine. I like that you are concerned with this. It makes sense, and any reasonably privacy conscious person should ask and wonder these things.

Check with Pi mods. But in most cases, you need to go with whatever your government recognizes as your name. If a name change is further in the future, I wouldn't worry about it. The KYC is a one time check, so it'll need to be current to whatever your government recognizes.
I have one important question .. since I registered in PI with Facebook and Facebook is really annoying and does not let me change my name ( because apparently I have changed it a lot of times) I end up registering with the name Nikolay Nikolay Popov (as it is in my facebook). It’s not really mining so much as “claiming” since it’s a consensus algorithm vs PoW or PoS. No value to Pi at all. Until wallets are released it’ll take some time before we see what it’s initial value is.

I wouldn't say too late. Unless they build their own very large network of referrals, they probably won't build a high amount of Pi, but that's fine. The more users are active and involved in Pi, the better off everyone is longer term.

I think this happens quite a bit for folks not in the US/CA. From what I've heard, though I am not an authority on this, phone verification will continue to come to other countries over time.
I agree it is important, but just want to know if they are looking for a more firm verifiable documents like for Americans it could be a picture of their birth certificate and for foreigners could be their passport pictures and ofcourse passportholders must update them as when their passport get expired, to secure the authenticity and remove all fake accounts.

PI is not a cryptocurrency because:
- it is not a public, traceable blockchain, so we cannot know for sure that it is based on cryptographic processes.
- is a mobile application and that's it
- at present, Pi has only the stated and functional purpose of making money from advertisements

- you do not have open source code, so you can compile a mining client yourself
- The market cap is fiercely small, based on hype
- since it starts trading, it is therefore out of the test period, so where is the blockchain explorer
- their whitepaper / roadmap is more full of desires for what they want to be, not what they have implemented
- the only functional aspect is that of recruitment, similar to a pyramid scheme, with the promise of a percentage of what the guest does
- you do not have a cryptographic wallet in the real sense of the word, which you can store where you think would be safer
- on the part of the 3 founders, who are not professors at Stanford, but doctoral students, we did not find any other successful product of theirs
- on the side of the 3 founders, their social networks have a fierce number of small followers / interactions
- The whitepaper was written by a marketing expert who previously promoted and sold blockbuster movies
- have 3 employees from the beginning until now
- more jokingly more seriously, the only thing you invest in IP is Personal Information, because the application collects everything about you, from the type of phone, to stored wifi passwords and applications used more often
- all those who have mined a coin, regardless of the degree of difficulty, will know that the idea of mining in their system (ie it is necessary to start the mining application once every 24 hours) is funny if not sinister, because they suggest that you can mine even offline

Man you got me worried about the name thing. I have my first and second name on my profile. I also have middle names, do I need to add those? Is it too late? Literally no notification about until your video..
I imagine you’ll be ok. Check in with mods in app. There was a big push on this a long while back when I made this video but I would think mods will allow for a grace period to change.

Hey Wes, I highly appreciate your postings on pi. One question about the name. I have a south korean citizenship, and put my name in Korean since this is the name in my ID card/passport. Unfortunately, I cannot change my name anymore.
Do you think there will be a chance to change the name in english before we go to mainnet? I could imagine there are several others who are not bots, however didnt write down the name correctly.

Hi Samuel, chances are you'll be ok. There's going to be multiple methods for KYC in the future so a name in native language should be ok.

Hi Wes, I have a problem. I forgot to include my middle name that is on my drivers license and on my other documents when verifying my name. The 3 day period to change my name is up so I can no longer update it. Will I lose my pi coins? Any help would be appreciated.

Check with Pi mods. But in most cases, you need to go with whatever your government recognizes as your name. If a name change is further in the future, I wouldn't worry about it. The KYC is a one time check, so it'll need to be current to whatever your government recognizes.
I have one important question .. since I registered in PI with Facebook and Facebook is really annoying and does not let me change my name ( because apparently I have changed it a lot of times) I end up registering with the name Nikolay Nikolay Popov (as it is in my facebook). The problem Is that is a mistake u can not fix -my real name is Nikolay Popov. SO my question is, is this a problem. Please help! Thank you!

Hi Wes Spencer well I have seen your RUclips video as it is already 1 month’s old update. Well I got to know you through Pi Network Home Screen today so my question is I have 42 team members in my Pi Network and I have also created group chat of all members recently where I send my pioneers latest updates regarding Pi Network and as in your video regarding final chance to change name so if my team members have not done yet then is there any other way to do now as I am worried about them as they have been mining from long time no doubt I had individually send them updates to change name and also at the time of joining I had said to give correct name accordingly to government recognised document even though slightly worried for my team members, therefore i would humbly like to request with you for any solution regarding the matter Cheers thanks ✌️✌️🙏🙏👍👍

It’s not really mining so much as “claiming” since it’s a consensus algorithm vs PoW or PoS.
No value to Pi at all. Until wallets are released it’ll take some time before we see what it’s initial value is.

I wouldn't say too late. Unless they build their own very large network of referrals, they probably won't build a high amount of Pi, but that's fine. The more users are active and involved in Pi, the better off everyone is longer term.

So, I don't remember if I used my full name. Pi only shows my first and last name. This is a little concerning.
I am new on this Pi cripto..I am verified but many of my group or secured team are not...I think the missed the time to make the verification and some of them changed their phone numbers...wonder if they can only verify their account with only FB ACCOUNT? also, How can they update their phone number information?

But I am currently living in Italy with an identity card that doesn't have my middle name . So should I use my Lebanese passport or my Italian identity card.

I think this happens quite a bit for folks not in the US/CA. From what I've heard, though I am not an authority on this, phone verification will continue to come to other countries over time.

I agree it is important, but just want to know if they are looking for a more firm verifiable documents like for Americans it could be a picture of their birth certificate and for foreigners could be their passport pictures and ofcourse passportholders must update them as when their passport get expired, to secure the authenticity and remove all fake accounts.
