There was a lot of talk about Death Junior getting a cartoon, and even a movie. In fact, that's why Gary Whitta was hired to write the miniseries, to drum up more interest in the property as a film, with him attached as screenwriter. Originally, they hired me to do a black and white comic to give away at a game conference, and that immediately got Disney interested. At the time, no one gave games the time of day, but if it was a comic, then they sat up and took notice. But I guess it never went anyway. As the man says, every movie is a miracle. Glad you liked the comic. I loved seeing those old pages pop up in my feed. I'm always worried my art is going to look terrible out of the context of comics, but you picked some excellent excerpts. TF2 comic's 7th entry was confirmed, the script was finished (after 26 drafts according to the screenshot sent by a valve writer) and the art is currently being worked on
Fun fact about Death Jr, there was actually supposed to be a third comic book miniseries. It was going to be called Death Jr and the Cryogenic Storm, it was drawn by a different artist and I THINK the characters were going to be aged up to their mid teens or something, but it has been on an indefinite hiatus for years now and I don't think it'll ever make a comeback. There's some concept art for it on the artist's DeviantArt page though if you wanna check it out. Also, I've been oddly interested in this series ever since I randomly found the second game in a Game Stop. I find it kinda sad how they were clearly pushing it to be the next big thing and it kinda just died after a few years

@@eb7389 Oh yeah, DJ was a bit of a challenge, just because he's so simple. Even Peter Overstreet, who came up with the idea and design (and kinda regrets handing it over to his dayjob company, but that's another story) he ended up adding more detail in later stabs at the character, and it's just not as good as the original doodles. I did everything based off those first few sketches. Sometimes, that's where the magic happens. DJ is just two dot eyes with a nose right dead center. I tried to add a jawline early on in the pages, but his little lower jaw works best when it's rounded off, making the whole head a kind of squashed egg shape. The more extra detail you add, the less it all works. I'd have done another round of issues, but as I mentioned, the books were more a means to an end than an end in itself. They were trying to get the property onto the big screen. And anyway, I was anxious to get back to my own stuff, which was starting to take off. Now, I fear the Death Junior train has sailed. But I really appreciate you bringing it up. I'm proud as hell of the book. And I don't think I've ever worked with a more skilled, professional writer than Gary. That dude was a marvel. Oh, and it was super cool to do signings with Mike Mignola, who's obviously a hero of mine. Terrific fellow.
The whiplash of seeing the SNAFU fan comics. Loved the PPG one a lot, I think I still would visit it at least once a year to see if there was an update just before the pandemic. Learned about it when somebody made a very cool flash game based on it.
"The superior foes of spider man" Is something I could see animated, or even something like the peacemaker series but I think the comedy would work better animated
The TF2 community can easily animate the comic series through Source Film Maker But actually having an animation studio adapt the comics would be cooler Although it will be shorter than most cartoons because there aren't a lot of comic issues. The only ones with the only story are 7 issues long, and the others are meant to introduce an update, a promotion, an event, or a new program related to Team Fortress 2. I am glad that the fans have gotten in contact with the original writers of the comics and are currently working together to finally bring us the 7th comic. It is not official but it's good enough to have the original writer on board for the project. Who knows? Maybe Valve will actually put it on the TF2 website to finally wrap up the 7 comics.
Death Jr. Had a second and even a third game, too. Second game was Root of Evil for Wii, and the third one was 3Ds exclusive if i'm not mistaken. I played Root of Evil myself, had a fine enough time with it though it got repetitive-- aaaand just saw that you addressed the existence of the sequels. In any case, Root of Evil is kind of like Ratchet & Clank, but linear. You've got some melee combos, 3D platforming, but focus is on the various weapons you can find and upgrades you can make for them. For example, one of the weapons is a homing mine, made out of a C4, a hamster ball and a hamster. The upgraded version is adding another hamster, which leads to three hamster balls with C4 being thrown. No, my math isn't wrong, it's what happens when you put two rodents of opposing sex in close proximity of one another. Both characters had different weapons. Didn't test out the second character.
bro i fucking LOVED the animated hellboy movies. a series in the same style would slap. It'd also be a great way for perlman to play the character again, and maybe finally get closure in some way for the incomplete del toro trilogy. Something more visually adherent to the comics would be rad too; amazing screw on head looked fantastic...er in stills. the animation needed an overhaul. but i think it could work if given the proper attention.
I don't know how legitimate this leak is but there have been rumors about the last comic being in the illustrations stage, I don't know what the official term is but it's not colored yet
everyone here is talking about everything else but the fantastic four so i’ll say something. i think the fact that hickman’s run is so dense is why it would make such a good show. that run doesn’t just reestablish marvel’s first family, it redefines who they are and adds more to them than the previous 50 years did in terms of character and plot development. that run could be a 5-6 season show that i genuinely think could change the public perception of the FF and emphasize the importance that they have within the marvel lexicon. i think a good, heavy lore, long-format FF show could bring the amazing stories they have into the greater cultural zeitgeist. i also really like the maker tho
One of the best things that allow comics to be adapted so easily into animation is they're already acting as a storyboard. Naturally, those adapting it are free to take creative liberties with that aspect, but the fact that big part of it is already laid out and begging to be animated makes them that much easily translated to the screen. Oh yeah, as a big Hellboy fan, Big Red definitely deserves more animated adaptations.
I feel Like Matt Wagner Grendel Would Get Animated Adaption as Well, I mean we were Meant to get Live Action Adaptation but It was Cancelled on Netflix
All of these are excellent choices. I know this is about western comics, but 1 suggestion I'd like to see is an animated adaptation of the Pokemon Adventures/Special manga. I know Pokemon's a game series with a long running anime series already, and the series gets other new animation projects from time to time, but a faithful adaptation of the manga would not only stand out, but also help put a more niche part of the series in the spotlight. I know some people meme on it for it's more edgy and weird moments, but there's so much more to it than that, like it's exciting battles and unique characterization of the games' casts. The plots also start to really differentiate themselves from the games from the Yellow arc onwards, so it wouldn't feel like another game adaptation past the Red/Blue arc. Hell, even the Red/Blue arc does some interesting things that'd make it stand out from something like the original anime or Origins, like some of the gym leaders being Team Rocket members, or the story that has Team Rocket fuse the legendary birds together.
powerpuff girls douhjinshin is indeed great (and ongoing, some complain it's slow, but slow and good is better than rushed and meh), and is even inspiring some times (for a writer anyway)
