Edit: this video now has 100k views and Toby Jones and Fran Krause have seen it. This is insane, this originally was just a fun video spreading the word of some interesting pieces of CN history that I wanted to make, I never expected it would blow up this big. Danger Planet could have been an AWESOME mini-series similar to Over The Garden Wall, actually. The main character is an arcade machine played by Dana Snyder, like...that alone should have made it greenlit instantly!
Pillywags mansion had the PERFECT formatting and style for a successful Adult Swim series. Throw in a few adult jokes and it would be a young adult masterpiece.
_Pillywag's Mansion_ is the one I would've liked to see as a series. The world needs more puppet stuff.
If you're interested in CN pilots/shorts that never became shows, you should check out Welcome To My Life. It's a relatively simple premise, but the execution is very well done. I've never seen a cartoon capture the charming awkwardness of being a teenager in a mockumentary style so well. The animation is also really fucking cool and unique too. If you're into Pillywag's Mansion, you'd probably be into Welcome To My Life

I was really sad to see that AJ’s Infinite Summer didn’t get a whole season. It was a genuinely funny show and I could definitely see how each episode could go.
I remember seeing the pilot for AJ's infinite summer and I loved every second of it despite not really caring about cartoon network at the time
The problem with a lot of the pilots here is that unlike Regular show, Adventure time and a lot of the other pilots that got picked up they don't really seem like they have the option to either branch out or go somewhere with the exception of Danger Planet and AJ's infinite summer.
Big fan of cartoon network but the older 2000s shows like Billy and Mandy and all those other shows were so much better than the new ones that are on Cartoon Network right and the animation and looks were even better and funnier to me. There’s definitely good shows like Teen titans Go and that new looney tunes university show but think Cartoon Network shows could be getting way better or as good or better than the originals, there were so many great older shows
Honestly, though, the Utica cartoon (the hotdog bear one) presents a really similar premise to the Apple and Onion show
@@shokingu6963 Yeah but the Utica one (despite somehow being better than the two) is more like a chilled out not so edgy regular show. It's not painfully boring like We bare bears or apple and onion but the problem it has is that other than the show there's not really much you can do with the characters without drastically expanding the original concept.

Finally! Someone else is talking about danger planet. It is definitely one of my favorite pilots. It definitely is a shame it was never picked up.
I would of loved to see Trick Moon get it's series. I miss shows that feature carefree anthropomorphic animals in this day and age.

I remember watching ALL of the Cartoon Network pilots that weren’t picked up one day and fourth grade when I was sick and I still remembered all of these because I love them

AJ’s Infinite Summer blew my socks off. Thank you for sharing these pilots some of them would’ve been bangers for sure. I think AJ’s is my favorite
Out of all the cartoon pilots, I would choose Trick Moon. That show had lots of potential honestly.

Since you made a list for CN Pilots, how about some for the Nickelodeon Pilots. I still remember and LOVE Rosemary and Kyle. It didn't leave as a cliffhanger and the short ended beautifully, but I would love to have seen the story center around the high school and how different groups interacted with each other, with Rosemary and Kyle having cameos in the background being happy together.

Bro I remember loving the Danger Planet pilot when it first released on RUclips, it sucks that it was never picked up.
I also remember another CN pilot about Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster and some third guy living in an apartment together, I think it was by the guy who made Regular Show. I wish that one was picked up too.

It’s one of those videos that you could either pop on in the background while your working and listen to it, or just straight up watch it and either way you do it, it’ll still be interesting. The editing is just enough, the script is great and overall this video is great! Good job my dude!

CN will always be the king of pilots in my opinion, I always liked how they not only appealed to viewers but also felt like a place where upcoming animators can shine!

Honestly it feels as if in some parallel universe, these shows would've been picked up. It's quite sad to know that the decades of this 2d style have now gone by and these pilots have just been forgotten by public memories. Some of them could've been great.
Personally I was a huge supporter of Back to Backspace, that imo had a lot of potential.

I remember sometime around 2016-2017 I was looking for something to watch on direct tv. There was a section for already downloaded items & for some reason every single one of these pilots was there & available to watch as long as I had Cartoon Network on my plan. I remember watching all these pilots and scoring them based on how much I’d like to see them as a show.

Not that long ago, I end up re-watching a cartoon Network pilot called Longhair and Double Dome. My cousin and I laughed our heads off when watching it back in the day. It was as funny to me now as it was back then, but I still got some laughs out of it remembering how hard we left as kids.
Great video! As a kid, there was one pilot that I wished would get picked up someday, mostly bc of some of the lines and few songs that to this day are like ear worms to me: Back to Backspace.
I watched it again after this video, and I still think it has potential.

I remember watching Danger Planet, Aj’s, 3 dog band, and Science Fiction Project, on demand, I really wished they’d got picked up over a lot of other’s shows, Science fiction project reminded me a ton of old 90’s early 2000’s shows on CN, and 3 dog had really fun designs and was based around music which I’m a music guys so, and what’s said about the other two’s been said other than I would’ve preferred AJ’s infinite summer over OK K.O

one of my favorite cartoon network pilots is Welcome To My Life, it's so calming and charming to see a Monster go about their life amongst humans, there wasn't much action or drama, it was just something to enjoy. There's so many pilots that I think deserve another chance and this video has some great ones! I loved Danger Planet. Nice video here, surprised you're not at a ton more subs.

very well done, well spoken, and even the parts where you had to come back in during editing still didn't feel out of place
my only complaint is the microphone is a little cheap sounding, but good equipment is expensive, and I honestly stopped giving a shit within the first minute

I think cartoon network should give those cut cartoons a second chance and give those cartoons the Fandom they desperately need especially with the robots and the baby and the shape-shifting alien

Nickelodeon add something like this called randomness cartoons, and the only reason I know this off the top of my head without having to do research is because they for some reason just started airing reruns early in the morning on nicktoons. That's how I originally saw the OG pilot for adventure Time and bravest warriors

I knew about none of these and while most don't seem like they'd have a "universe" to expand upon with the pilot, I think they all deserved a chance. Danger Planet and Utica Cartoon absolutely should've been made into a full show though, such a missed opportunity

10:30 - On one hand: it's closer to a few days before 9/11, rather than months. (which is even worse)
On the other, it's a town in upstate New York, not New York City.
The timing and subject matter would still hit uncomfortably close regardless.

Wonderfully made video. I've had only the vaguest recollection of Utica Cartoon for only 20 years, it felt like an absolute fever dream. Also, it was WAY closer to 9/11 when it aired; like 2 and a half weeks between the pilot airing and the attacks.
AJ's Infinite Summer seems to have the right brand of Humor and Whimsical Nonsense that would make it popular both with kids AND with adults, which I think is a quality that has been proven recently to be a very valuable and desirable attribute.
I don't think cartoon network realizes what an actual gold mine they are sleeping on with that show, it really deserves a second chance.

Awesome video, I loved the little inserts of other cartoons before introducing the next pilot. It was super smooth and transitioned perfectly. Also as a fan of cartoon pilots I was pleased to see that most of these I haven't heard or seen before! You deserve more views.

Honestly, Utica Cartoob and Pillywag's Manision will fit right in as a webshow on the internet, like I can see Utica Cartoon being popular in the early to late 2000's while Pillywag's Mansion basically becomes the DHMIS of the late 2010's
