      Humbling!! I would think everyone, when considering a studio build, would love to be able to build from scratch, ground up and design as you wish!!!
      It does however make me wonder from the wide range from minimalistic to break the bank builds, are the end results justifiably different and if so, in what ways!!

    • @BrilliantRecording
      @BrilliantRecording 3 года назад +7

      I would say at the end of the day no amount of gear or type of tracking space will overcome mediocre source material. I used lack of gear as an excuse for a long time. What I know now is that the performance, the song and the source are the most important part of the signal chain. Yes, gear and a great space help, but aren’t the deciding factor.
      Here are a couple key points of a big budget vs a home studio in no particular order
      -Capacity to do larger sessions, both with the physical space as well as equipment and channels, monitoring etc.
      -Premium sound isolation. Even as far as I took my build, a bigger budget would allow for greater isolation and less sound transfer between spaces. Higher quality build materials and techniques.
      -Premium Equipment List
      At some point there are definitely diminishing returns on the money spent vs a better end product.
      I’d love to hear y’all’s thoughts....?

    The inlaw suite idea is gold. it works cause for resale it definitely is technically an inlaw suite. ISO is closet, control room is an office, live room is the bedroom and then you have the kitchenette and bathroom.

    You know, the coolest thing about this kind of “quarantine series” thing really is just how down to earth these guys are and every one of them mentions something about what they learned on and how it shaped some image of where they wanted to be. It feels like humble beginnings can lead to awesome things. That’s what I find inspiring. I really dig it man.

    Manley pre’s are probably the most underrated and overlooked pieces of gear in the biz. They’re the best preamps for recording everything together in a live room with their natural tube compression when they’re pushed into saturation without distorting the input. Guitars can be tracked right into one and give you the same sag and feeling you would expect from a Fender Deluxe, a Marshall or any tube amp that you like which impresses me so much every time I catch myself looking for an amp in the room when overdubbing or harmony parts are being tracked. Great video as usual and probably the best “home” studio I’ve seen yet. Thanks for the great content and I look forward to seeing more!

    Another GREAT studio and video! I really love the layout of this space. This definitely makes me want to connect the studio to our home, Andrew, because we can have the family closer AND it will be a better financial investment for the value of the home. Definitely, something to consider. I'm pro-attached space, as long as the separation is done in such a way where we don't hear each other. It would technically be an 'in-law suite' that we could repurpose for resale or just keep as-is (much more likely) for someone interested in keeping the recording studio. LOVE THIS STUDIO! LOVE THIS VIDEO! Great job guys :)

    Wow....Just.... WOW. What an amazing looking studio. Once again pushing the boundaries of what a home studio is considered and turning it into a professional working environment. I absolutely love this space and hope to one day have something like it. Im happy to see the WA412 pre amps making it into the rack, as those are some pre amps I have been very curious to try out. ALSO, the blues JR in the mix room.... great amp! Those things just sound incredible especially when they're cranked! Thank you for making this video Andrew !

    (SPARE NO EXPENSE) this is an amazing space!!! I wish he would elaborate a little more on the way he built the control/live room wall, and other than not considering storage space is there anything else he would have done different in hind site?

      @@BrilliantRecording first let me thank you for you willingness to share your knowledge with us, as a community I have found, for the most part, everyone willing to lend a hand to others trying to navigate the engineering side of an ever growing and popular way of doing things.
      On the wall, you said essentially it was two walls and that you offset the studs, what is the purpose of offsetting them ( one wall from the other) is that to prevent any vibrations from transfer across one to the other?
      The other question is I’m assuming there is an air gap between the walls??
      From deducing all the builds I have been watching is the air gap a sort of bass trap to stop the low end frequency’s and/ or does the thick rock wool walls help with that as well??
      Again thanks for all your insight.

    • @BrilliantRecording
      @BrilliantRecording 3 года назад +1

      Absolutely man! I am happy to help people out the same way others helped me along the way.
      You are exactly right. The alternating 2x4 studs in the 2x6 wall are to decouple each side of the wall from each other to minimize vibration transfer. I went an additional step and did the same thing by floating the fiberboard and sheetrock off of those studs with aluminum Hat Channel. There is a 1” dead air gap between the 2x4 wall and the 2x6 wall. This helps to disperse sound waves that have made it through the first wall before they carry on through the next wall by giving them an alternative place to go. Mass is probably the easiest way to get isolation between spaces, but it can be really expensive to implement. Concrete, Cinderblocks, Sand etc. The next best thing is air locking the spaces which is the route I went due to cost.
      Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

      Hello. It’s a hybrid setup where I sum analog out to the Manley and Rascal Tone Bus, as well as process with analog eq and dynamics, but I will also use a fair amount of plugins in the box.

      Thanks for asking. It’s a KK Desk. I’m pretty sure they don’t make them any longer.

    Please, let us pray together. Dear God who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever in Jesus Christ's name we pray amen.
    1 Corinthians 16:14
    Let all that you do be done in love.
    Philippians 4:19
    And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Jesus Christ.
    2 Corinthians 1:2
    Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
    May all suffering end as we give thanks this day. May God's face shine upon us forever on Earth as it is in Heaven in Jesus Christ's name we pray for His name and for His sake. Amen.
