  • We asked 67 people from all over the world to take a DNA test. It turns out they have much more in common with other nationalities than they thought ...
    It’s easy to think there are more things dividing us than uniting us. But we actually have much more in common with other nationalities than you’d think.
    At momondo we believe that everybody should be able to travel the world, to meet other people, and experience other cultures and religions. Travel opens our minds: when we experience something different, we begin to see things differently. Share this video, and help us spread the word - and open our world.

    Being a part of this exciting journey I can guarantee that I am NOT participating as an actor but totally as myself.
    And so are all the other participants, chosen as him-/herself in several countries. That's the whole idea with this project to show that we are all in fact DNA-cousins...

  • @f.michaelmontgomery7602
    @f.michaelmontgomery7602 5 лет назад +65

    "The participants in the video, which has more than 5 million views, are actors and extras Momondo found through casting agencies...But each one actually had their DNA tested and their reactions to their results were "spontaneous," the company said."
    I, too, found myself moved and touched by their reactions. There is so much distrust and hate and fear in this world. The power of discovering how related we all are can be transformative - if we let it in. Akin to the first picture of our earth from space, the "blue marble" bringing home that we are all in this together. Love transforms and unites. Fear distances and polarizes. Which do we choose to be a part of?

      Even if you forget about the linguistic or cultural difference, you still can not ignore that people have different views, character and goals in life. Not to mention such things as civil wars or a banal political confrontation. People are really the one, but at the same time it's foolish to think that people are a monotonous mass that can be attracted to a common denominator.

    This is so incredible I've always wanted to do something like this and know where I really truly come from. And it is touching how emotional this is even I teared up. Imagine how much hate could evaporate if everyone knew and instead of being asked where they were from or ethnicity o race and saying one or two things and it being done with, you pulled out a paper and listed a ton of places. It would just be one more thing in common with someone else. And not to mention that they get to travel, which is the sole dream of many. Very lucky people.

    I keep reading in the comments that this is all fake. As someone who works in advertising and has done several of these 'interview' videos, I'm pretty sure some of these interviewees are real people and some are actors because that's usually what we do. It's almost always 50/50 like that. We'll usually use the reactions of real people because theirs is more genuine, and then use the actors' lines as padding (the British skinhead guy is definitely an actor).

    My question here is: why do we need a scientific evidence to start believing in that we are all cousins?!
    Not only we're all cousins, but also truly we're all equal. I believe regardless of being black or white, Asian or European, pop star or farmer, poor or rich, the only sane way that we can measure and judge people is based on humanity.

    • @MithranArkanere
      @MithranArkanere 8 лет назад +15

      We are not equal. We have given each other the right for equal rights and opportunities. People use the expression as if it meant the same, but It's not the same.
      The difference between being equal and having the same rights is that if we were all equal, there would not be the differences required to have exchange of ideas and the inspiration that creates progress and advancement.
      It would all be stagnant. All the same. Never changing. Stuck in time. Living dead.
      You can't build anything interesting if you only have one kind of Lego

They further admit to some retakes, but claim the initial reaction from opening the envelope is not staged, and to make sure they captured it properly they used 4 cameras. The spitting in tube bit is staged in the sense that that was not the test they used.

      Good idea. There are many ethnicities within China and the majority Han are a composite of northern and southern ancient populations. This is holiday discount time at several of the DNA testing companies including Family Tree DNA and Ancestry dot com. You can potentially find cousins on those sites as well as, after that, the free sites GEDmatch and DNA Land if you upload your data to them. WeGene, a company based in China, allows the free uploading of Ancestry or 23andme data but at the moment only has ethnicity estimates not cousin matching like the others.

      +Addie-Eileen Paige It depends on whereabouts in China you were from. People in the north might have more Manchurian/Mongolian/(possibly)Korean ancestry, people in the south may have partial SEA ancestry, and almost certainly ancestry from the various ethnic minority groups that historically resided in southern China. I'm Chinese too, and know my geographical pedigree up to my grandparents' generation, but still definitely want to get my ancestry checked out.

    Why are ppl surprised by this (maybe except for the cousin part)? We are all mixed. And not that I particularly hate anyone, but why would I be more open to a country or nationality that I potentially hate just because one of my ancestor was from there? Hate nowadays isn't originated from culture, but rather religion or politics, and such things will not change in a world with 7 billion people. We could wish that it was that easy, but I'm just being a realist

    "Germany, I'm not a fan of the Germans". Translation from UK English to simple English:
    It's really hard to believe that I come from the best country with the best football team when Germany just kind of chuckles about us and won't even acknowledge that we consider them rivals.

      Gillinghamgus I'm not saying it's fake because of the results. all people are racially mixed, I know that.
      It is fake because of the acting, the way they react to the results.
      these are not real racists who think they are racially "pure"... these are clearly actors playing a part.

      TLDR: their biased not racist, but this videos still probably fake
      to be fair they never said they were flat out racists, they said they were biased. All individuals can be biased about plenty of things, the people shown in the video were biased (not racist) against certain races for whatever reason.
      Maybe they don't like another countries sports team or got injured by a specific group of individuals? Who knows?
      As for this being video being faked, probably. As already stated plenty of times this is a TRAVEL company. Its so much cheaper to pay actors then to fly a bunch of individuals across the world, preform DNA tests and then give them free trips in their origin countries.
