I arrived at 1792 Small Batch when looking at bourbons today at the beach. Was open to trying something probably $60 and under. Saw it at $35 and it just stuck out as a win on value. Tastes great, very smooth
I have both 1792 SB and Buffalo Trace in my cupboard and I must say, I’m reaching for the 1792 SB more often than the Buffalo Trace, especially when enjoying it neat. I do appreciate these double blinds….it proves how hype, labels, etc can sway a person’s perception.
Erin is naming off the Spice Girls while Josh is oblivious to the subtext. What a great episode!! 😁 On a side note, I am Buffalo Trace all day, every day. 1972 is not bad, but I don't love it.
Two bottles that I have and love. Got 1792 for $24.99 at Woodmans, Buffalo trace is hard to find, but I did find it at Walmart of all places, and it's gone now, for $27.99. I will buy both when the bottles are empty. Appreciate your video and comments. May do a blind myself tonight for these two.
All we really have available in Ohio is the 1792 SmB - and it's always good for the money but earlier this year I picked up a 1792 FP store pick and it was an absolute revelation. In fact I picked up most of 1792 line up and considering they can all be found as store picks for less than 50 each ( in some states ) I can't recommend them enough. I
Going to make it a habit to join you all more often. But just not three pours at 1 in afternoon.😂 I had both pours in my stash. But the advantage of course was that I knew what they were. I would have to say that the 1792 Small Batch was a little sweeter than the BT. And I did like the little spice. I think I preferred the 1792. Now I just need to start offering up my Buffalo Trace to my guests more often, to get rid of the 3 bottles I have. I guess I fell for the old Buffalo Trace thing as it is so hard to get and I was a rookie at this whiskey thing. Thanks for teaching me. Still a rookie. Thanks for what you do. And that my friends is why they call me....Mr. Wonderful.
1792 SB was one of the first bourbons I purchased to try as it was on almost every top 5 beginner bourbon list. I enjoyed it but wasn’t necessarily my favorite. I’ve had Buffalo Trace a few times but never really sat down with it and tried to dissect it. I have some of them both left, I’m going to have to try this blind for myself. Thank you so much for the content, I really enjoy it!
So I did do a blind tasting with help from my Hubby. It was close, but Buffalo Trace came out on top. I tried to guess which one was which, but I was wrong, lol. Both are great.
I havent been enjoying bourbon long, but I am not impressed with Buffalo Trace. I have had three bottles over two years. I keept trying to find out why its so sought after, am I missing something, or perhaps it was a bad bottle. Perhaps its just not my flavor profile. I havent tried 1792 yet, but I have seen it. Now its on my short list of new bottles to try.
I can get BT everyday and some states can’t get it so I think that’s why people want it! All 1792’s are really good and great everyday pours! 1792 BNB is one of my favorites!
@@craiglsu72 BT isnt in huge supply near me, but you can find it for about $26. But to be honest I would rather have Wild Turkey 101 or Old Forester 100 for around that price. The only 1792 I have seen is the small batch, not sure if it will be next or Cooper Craft 100. I havent had either, but I will pick 1792 SB within the next month.
I tend to overlook low proof blinds. I keep both of these on hand and can get them for around $30, with BT even a few dollars cheaper sometimes. That said, 1792 SB has been among my favorite everyday bourbons for years. I should blind it against BT and another one or two to confirm that it still holds up.
Buffalo Trace is near impossible to find in Austin Texas! I just picked the 1792 small batch a few days ago and really enjoyed it. And, you can find 1792 everywhere. Will be one of my regular daily drinkers 🥃
Went to pick up an Eagle Rare and I had to get a 1792 small batch to get the ER. I am still kind of undecided where I really stand on the 1792, but at only 21.99 I can't complain.
1792 is my favorite bourbon. Buffalo Trace is very good (when i can find it......only ever bought 2 bottles). But i like 1792 the best. I dont know about the super expensive stuff. Cheers!
I'm with you, girl! I can never find the banana in any whiskey yet! I thought I was just a lone weirdo. I always recommend Basil Hayden for a first try. Very easy for a beginner to pull different flavors.
1792 I can actually get and in general is a more interesting sipper to me. BT is unobtanium but also just doesn't give me much to catch my interest. Sazerac Rye is also good.
After nearly tasting most of whats on the average liquor store’s bourbon shelves, I found that 1783is probably the best starter bourbon. Then stepping up into 100-proofers: Early Times BiB. Then Rare Breed. Then ECBP.
We know at least one person who got a bunk bottle of 1792 SmB recently so maybe there was a bad batch floating around out there. It happens more than distilleries would let on.
Yeah I purchased my first one a few months ago and it's not very good. Kinda put me off of the brand, but maybe I'll take a crack at a bonded or single barrel when I see one again.
@@Razieleatssouls, There's a considerable batch variation in the 1792 Small Batches. Most are good, some can be very good, and then there is the occasional stinker. The bonded varies, too: Had one bonded with no banana and another bonded with a lot of banana.
Josh, what are some of your go to available bourbons? (I’m newer and I feel like my preferences align with yours) That might make an interesting video. Top picks based on taste profiles.
Very cool. I’ll keep an eye out. You guys are awesome. I recently fell in love with bourbon and you two are a big part of why. I just feel like I’m hanging with good friends. Thanks for all the great content!
I really enjoy 1792. It has a great banana cinnamon spice to it and has that classic "rickhouse" bourbon smell. I think it's the superior of the two. BT smells and tastes very sweet and bright. It lacks depth and has an acidic/sour note.
Saz vs Saz. Big difference for me is BT is often not available, and at $45 when it is. Small Batch 1792 is $29 and always around. The price difference is an instant factor.
For beginners I have to set aside my personal preferences, which probably would be too strong, with too intense flavors, for newbies. So... Four Roses Small Batch Bluff Springs - a Total Wine store brand that compares very well to Buffalo Trace Bulleit bourbon - to try how a high rye mash bill goes Balcones Baby Blue corn whisky - a nice introduction to dense flavor that's not as intense as their other stuff Elijah Craig Woodford Reserve Tomorrow the list might be different, but as of this moment I'd recommend these to someone just getting into whisky.
I remember buying BT nearly a decade ago when every state store had it, and thinking it was just OK. I have no idea why everyone wants BT, probably because its not really available so FOMO but it seems to lose every blind I watch
I do find the ‘beginner bourbon’ moniker silly. I have been drinking whiskey for years. For my daily drinkers I prefer lower proof bourbons. For making an old fashioned I prefer a high proof rye. I watch a ton of bourbon videos and they almost all hate on low proof bourbons as if they are somehow inferior to 100 proof bourbons 🤷♂️🥃
Buffalo Trace is THE MOST OVERHYPED bourbon in the world!! Mediocre at best and NOT worth the hunt, price and headache of trying to get a bottle. There are LITERALLY dozens available everywhere that destroy it in that price point (or, often, less!!).
Yep….and for those prices, I can buy a FULL liter of Early Times bottled in bond…..100 proof, aged longer, TEN TIMES the flavor and 33% more juice!!! My OP point exactly.

I’m really liking my 1792 sb as my daily sipper. Easier to find and more complex then bt

By far my favorite beginner bourbons is Woodford Reserve Double Oaked.
Both good pours and agree 1792 is more complex more flavor.
Look at that lighting! 🔥🔥🔥
Getting there! The work continues with little tweaks. Really excited for the January content!

I'm new to whiskey. just picked up 1792 SB for $17. Gonna try it for the 1st time tonight. wish me luck
I hope you enjoyed it. This is one of my favourite bourbons but it costs around $90 to $100 here in Oz.
