As a photographer, I go to art shows. Over the years I have read countless artists statements. I laugh at most of them. So much self praise in those statements when they could just write a few paragraphs about their current show. That would make me happy! That would be enough.
I hate the self centered grandiose talk about struggle and self finding bollocks. Mine says I have a problem with porn , brick porn as my friend says I'm always exclaiming "look at the bricks on that". 😂 I just like painting buildings and giving people who know the buildings fresh eyes to see it through and for them to fall in love all over again with something they had become comfy with and forgotten why they loved it in the first place. See not so hard when you have a passion and not a load of pretentious pretending to do 😁
@@dimaermolenko98 I didn't say short and cheesy. An artist statement can get to the point quickly without being three or more pages long. Artist's are not necessarily good with words. If you want to write a long statement, just include a link.
What a gift you are Sergio! Thank you for making writing an artist statement less complicated. I also love the tool at the end. Thanks again. I'm subscribed!
I'm so glad you found the video helpful! Writing an artist statement can be tricky, but I'm glad I could simplify it for you. Thank you for subscribing!
Sergio, Thank you so much for your wonderful insight and help. I love your own statement a lot. It seems you are painting the aura of a person. That is so interesting and I believe, has not been done before . Love it a lot. My goal is maybe in a way related, because I love to show the beauty of nature and all living beings. All the beautiful shapes of nature are amazing and I want to show them.
Just what I needed. Thank you. I’m nervous about entering an art competition mainly because of all the information they want as well as the art statement. The painting is the fun part.
I like the simplicity - because an Artist Statement is in many ways our own description... if you see art critics they bring some stuff so complicated across BUT at the end we want to reach peoples heart and mind :) a clear bold and simple way of describing our passion is recommended
WOW, thank you for this explanation..I’m taking an art class, and I’m supposed to write an artist statement…and this helps a lot, you made it easier to understand, thx a lot!
This is exactly what I needed! I'm working on an application for an art society membership, and I need to make a good impression with my statement. Followed along with the video, and now I'll make some changes to make it more my own. I took Sergio's Udemy course a year ago, and it was also super helpful for me!
Thank you so much for this!! This was super helpful. Honestly, that part about our goals as artist really made mine just click for me just now after listening to you. I will be rewriting my statement easy breezy !!
Impressive tool. Great ideas. What about artists such as me that need to have the artist statement ready to go in two more languages. Thanks in advance Sergio.
Need multiple languages? Not a problem. It's an easy step if you watch my next video on how to use AI to summarize your artist statement. Same tool, ChatGPT, can translate it for you in any language. and Free!!!
Muchas gracias Sergio. Como se llama tu galería? Como sería un proceso para obtener tus servicios de curador o tu aprobación para hacerte llegar una aplicación?
Thank you Sergio for sharing your experience and knowledge! This is super helpful and to the point. As a non native speaker Quillbot is super handy for me and is in constant use now...😂
Perhaps you have never heard the term "Figurative Abstraction." Abstract art can be figurative representation (Pablo Picasso), or totally non-representational (Jackson Pollock). A simple Google search will clarify it for you. :)
@@sergiogomezart I heard it, and it is nonsense, like many other terms that people use while describing art, just to sound clever. Picasso was a figurative painter. He always represented something or someone. I suggest you to open a dictionary and find the definition of both terms. To me, it sounds like you explained a shape as a circle-sqare shape. It's a circle but it is a square too. If it has a figure, or material object that can be recognised as such, or even reminds on something or someone from fantasy, it is figurative, if it doesn't, it is abstract. Your paintings are strictly figurative, they represent a stylizied human figure each, if they are those shown in the video. They are not abstract in any sense. They are stripped of detail, they are not realistic, they are stylizied, but they are not abstract. Abstract is something else.

Hi William. So true. Short and to the point are the best art statements. Happy new year. Hope you are well

Thank you for this. I am trying to write an artist statement for my latest project… your feedback is appreciated
Maybe some artists have more to say their art than you ! I mean a short but cheesy statement may sound just as bad.

Por fi activa los subtitulos en español 🙏🙏
I was recently taught that the Artist Statement is supposed to be in 3rd person.
I'm an artist from Sindh, Pakistan. Why is an artist's statement important? Why shouldn't artists be free?
you dont have to be one or the other. You can know how to write about your art and also be free. :)
Please help me
Figurative is not abstract. They are opposite. Art can be figurative or abstract.
If I red what this guy wrote I would think that he bs public.
