I started traveling a lot ,which is big on my list, after surviving stage 4 cancer at 49. I am happy I am continuing the traveling and still cancer free!
I beat the odds I was given from adrenal cancer: 20% chance of living 5 years. It’s been 7 and I have no recurrence. Live Like You Were Dying is my theme song and I blast it every year on the anniversary of my surgery. I too, started taking every opportunity to travel that I can afford because life can be gone in a minute.
You know what really makes me happy? Hearing two people who genuinely share a common interest, especially if it's not something most people care about. Their geeking out about it, even when I know little to nothing, gives me joy.
The "help someone adopt" bucket list item made me cry (in the best way). My husband and I have been married for 10 years and struggled with fertility for 8 years, and will probably ultimately adopt. I think it is incredible that you two have a goal of helping a couple pay for their adoption.
Re International Adoption: One day, I got a random email with a picture of a girl that had 6-weeks left before she would be too old to be adopted. (She was turning 14.) My husband was walking past me, when he saw the picture and said, "That's our daughter." We had 1-month to find the money to complete her adoption and get to China. A stranger heard about our story and called to ask how much money we needed to raise (I think it was ~$10,000). The woman immediately told me that the check would be in the mail that day. The lives of everyone in our family (and our new daughter!) were forever changed that day. Rachel, I look forward to hearing you helping to complete a family!
My husband and I made a bucket list on our honeymoon when we did not have 2 pennies to rub together. 35 yrs later we checked them all off, such a blessing and an adventure! Dream big and never give up on your list!
I love traveling and have a life goal of visiting every US National Park (there are currently 63). Each month, I set aside a fixed amount of money for travel and travel related expenses. What doesn't get used this month will roll over to the next month and so on. I micromanage my finances and track the travel funds and expenses in Excel. Putting money aside for travel allows me to not feel guilty when spending money on this this.
I didn’t know it was possible to love these shows, and not agree with a lot of the Ramseyisms, yet here I am. Conflicted. Great work, ya’ll. You’re very entertaining.
Every episode I am reminded how much I see of myself in Rachel. Every time she says something I think to myself "Literally Same!!!". Smart Money Happy Hour is a highlight every week! Love you guys!
My Mom has always wanted to see the Northern lights and I am taking her to Iceland for her 80th Birthday this winter-fingers crossed we see them. Love getting to check something off of her list!
I love the goal of helping to fund an adoption! We adopted my oldest son after years of losses and wound up borrowing from our retirement to help cover the costs (totally 40k+). Not the ideal way to go about it, but God opened the door for us to adopt him so quickly that we didn’t have time to save that much. We’ve since paid it back, and I have no regrets because we have our son ❤
I have hiked the Camino de Santiago twice (500 miles across Spain). Loved it!!! Met such great people along the way. My goal is now to do it every other year until I can no longer hike. 🎒🥾➡️🌅✝️❤️
My Bucket List has another ✅ today! On my 68th birthday, Rachel and George fulfilled a dream and reminded me to completely fill that bucket and enjoy each adventure. Thank you for making my year. Thursday has become my favorite day of the week🎂🎉
Ohhh I don't know if it was the gin I was drinking through this.... but loved this one. I don't have a bucket list but think I should get one. I like to arrange big holidays now, but maybe should be more thoughtful and really think about this. Northen lights.... OMG yes I need this. .also for me a trip to nashville. I'm from the UK and a country music gal... Nashville is a calling. Thanks for all the videos
This episode was so fun. I've never thought about having a bucket list before. One thing I would put on it is learning how to dance with my husband, like Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire type dancing. I would love to see the aurora someday though. A few years ago there was a rare appearance of the aurora in PA where I'm from. My dad and brothers tried to wake my mom up to see it, but she wouldn't wake up. Then they tried to wake up my sister, but she wouldn't get up either. So they didn't bother trying on me. 😭
Great show George and Rachel. My wife and I are going to make our bucket list of things we’d love to be able to do including - ensuring our parents are well taken care of when they can no longer care for themselves, find ways to bless young couples, widows and foster families and travel are a few things at the top of our list.
I think when I thought of a bucket list, it was different than goals...more things that were more for fun that I hoped I'd get to do like bungee jumping, ziplining, and sky diving. But I guess I did have some other types like seeing Phantom of the Opera in New York or reading the Art of War. Thank you for a different perspective. Goals can be part of a bucket list too!
In college my husband lived with a bunch of guys and they found some traffic cones, absconded with them and spent the remaining years there blocking traffic in the middle of the night. It was a college town and the house was a couple of blocks from campus, so there was occasional traffic most of every night. College kids sleep like babies...more in nap form than anything else. The house was elevated above the street quite a bit, so we would hide on the porch and watch and laugh.
I had a "college" bucket list which was just things i wanted to do before graduation. I havent really made a life bucket list but there are a few things i want to learn/do before i die. Mainly sewing projects and learning piano pieces.
I quit my job. And accomplished my bucket list at 25 and went on a 34 day east coast Australia trip for 5 grand which included skydiving . Now feeling like I've accomplished everything in life and looking to create new fun goals.
My bucket list is to get my country collection from 22 to 50, see the northern lights, finish my degree, and become a millionaire. I would also love to go skydiving, see every national park, see that last 7 states I haven’t visited, and visit Antarctica.
One bucket list/goal I accomplished was to be able to slalom water-ski at 50; last year I still got up, skiied, fell, got up again, skiied some more, at the age of 64. Now I'm aiming for 70.
Wow. Never thought I would be useful when it comes to someone's bucket list. I am a tennis pro, I teach and compete for money. Rachael, I could make you a good tennis player in no time!
I have done the $1000 in a day, which was fun. Right now my next goal is to have a financial net worth of 1 million. 20k more to go. My house is paid off, and I traveled expensively in my younger days, but luxury travel is definitely on my list.
Bucket List items: Hot air balloon ride, Be in a feature length film (not an extra), write a memoir, hike a mountain, see northern lights, see a volcano, be a speaker at a live event, fly first class, backpack somewhere, do a retreat (i.e meditation, etc.), and organize a charity event, go camping with hubby, and cook a meal for family on a holiday. 😎
If you write down goals for your bucket list, then looking back over life's years, it can be surprisingly gratifying for how many dreams you will reach. It can always be revised as life goes on. I like to assess and re-prioritize either at New Years (make resolutions) or on my birthday after circling the sun another time. Years ago, Zig Ziglar made a great presentation about writing goals down that actually helps make them more possible to achieve. Creating plans with timelines can enable the realizations. Yet sometimes, fate just intervenes to allow something to unexpectedly be achievable as a gift without any intentionally.
Great information! My first time to see you guys and i loved it! You both are so smart and so much fun! Thank you! Wheres my tablet? I need to write out❤😂 a bucket list!
We're working on paying off our mortgage so that's definitely giving bucket🤭 love you guys' bucket list items...I'd like to play the violin in a symphony orchestra.
I love the adoption fund bucket list item. 😭 My husband and I are waiting to be matched with a baby to adopt, and are saving a lot right now! Someday down the line I'd love to help someone else with adoption costs, after we have our own family. ❤
We are working thru our bucket list since we became debt free. We have done an all inclusive resort vacation, monster truck show, tractor pull, boxing match, mma cage match, seen our favorite comedians live, learned how to surf fish, seeing our favorite media personalities live, go to a UT football game, gone to formula 1 races, gone to drag strip, gone to a Korean spa, gone to a BTS concert, front row at Epik High concert(I waited 30years to see them!!!!). We Want to cruise to Alaska, see Ayer’s rock in Australia, visit New Zealand. Go on an island hopping sailing cruise on a Tri- maran. Go on a bayou vacation with fishing and gigging frogs. See a Space x launch
I love the pay for the adoption goal! My daughter is adopted from foster care so it was more affordable but that is a great goal because international adoption can be sooo expensive!!
I had a tiger in lap on my honeymoon in Thailand. Was the most amazing experience. We didn't find out that they were mistreating the tigers and selling cubs on the black market until many years after. Still a great experience. On our second trip back to Thailand we went to a different place with our kids and we were able to play with a pair of tiger cub twins. My kids loved it and worth every cent.
This guilty as charged was so easy for me. I'm married. Of course I've feigned interest! Last night my husband came in right when I was about to fall asleep and spent 20 minutes telling me about the ceiling fans in the garage. It was riveting. 😂
CONGRATS to George and Whitney!!!! When can we buy Comedy Club tickets for George's hour of Stand Up?? Rachel I'll pack my bags and go with you to the crystal clear ocean waters of Fiji!!! Girl's week🎉
I let some of my bucket list items set my financial goals back on occasion, but I’m still glad I accomplished a few: bicycling across the U.S. (CA to Fl) set me back about $10k…mostly due to taking off work for 2 months as the trip itself cost around $3-4k. I’m bummed about letting my retirement savings goal for that year go to that trip, but the memories are worth it. Last year I got a motorcycle, which I could have done smarter: I was on baby step 3, then financed the bike 😬. When I realized I was losing $80 a month to interest, I aggressively paid it off - using my emergency fund down to the $1000 🤦🏻♂️. Yet again, this cost me about as much as I wanted to set aside for retirement for that year once I caught back up. Hopefully now that I got those 2 major bucket list items out of the way I will be more disciplined. I’m kicking myself a bit, but I’ve been much happier overall after accomplishing these things. But maybe that’s it for several years until I get back to where I wanted to be financially 😅
Love that you want to pay for an adoption. My husband and I took out a larger mortgage to pay for my daughter’s adoption. Wish we didn’t take out a 30 year mortgage so now we are working on baby steps.
After I graduated college my parents took my family on trip to Grand Canyon. We rafted the Colorado River and then flew in a helicopter out of the canyon. It would take a lot to top that experience.
I think my financial bucket list is what I am doing now which is the baby steps but a big thing is being able to buy things from my checking account and not worried about checking it to prior to see if I can afford it .
George is big on touting the affordability of the swill they drink. When I was a Realtor some title company in the area would always have free drinks for agents on Thursday nights to hustle their business. I always took full advantage of the bargain drinks. They are not even looking internationally, just locally. Not picky about race, not picky about gender. What I don't understand about the Baby Steps; If you embark on them and don't already have a house or savings for a down payment - when do you save a down payment to buy a house?
@deniselittle5558 I've heard it referenced as 3B after the fully funded 3-6 month emergency fund is completed, so continue saving for downpayment in parallel with step 4 start saving 15% toward retirement. The money that had been used toward completing step 2 is now available for these next steps.
I am not a bucket list person either but maybe I’ll make one just for fun but not to actually accomplish lol. Also the 2 PI’s had be laughing so hard. And lastly I dated a guy who loved weird obscure music and for sure thought that made him better than me because I love top 40 hits and always have. Needless to say it did not work out and happy to report my husband doesn’t give a rip about what’s cool musically ❤
My bucket list item is to preach a sermon at Jacob's well in Israel. It's the only place on earth we can guarantee Jesus sat precisely within a few feet radius. Everything else is within a reasonable estimate but that well guarantees my feet touch the same place as his.
MEE!! pay for my international adoption!! It's been my dream for years. I get tears in my eyes every time I hear about adoption.. Just absolutely cannot afford it. And I want international adoption. ugh.. SOO good. What a great bucket list item.
I started traveling a lot ,which is big on my list, after surviving stage 4 cancer at 49. I am happy I am continuing the traveling and still cancer free!

Trying to leave a review on the podcast app. I’m old. Can’t figure it out. Gotta go cook dinner for a family of 10 now. But I love you guyyyyssss 🎉

Absolutely loved this episode!!! I have had "bucket list" items and "goals" for years. It's a great way to live and dream and experience.
George said "Goes down smooth", but his face said otherwise. hahaha
I'm with George on the country music, but I did know that Tim McGraw song back in the day.
Great show George and Rachel. The dynamic between George and Rachel is fantastic. I love this show. I’m laughing all the way through!

George, I would totally pay to go see your stand up on life and finances. I’m very sarcastic so I get you 😂.
Thanks for this episode! Prompted me to make a list of bucket list items already done....feeling a little more accomplished today! 😊

That song was about his Tim’s dad!!! I think that’s right! Great episode!
I'm so glad I found this. Travel is my priority again after putting it off for over a decade, and I want to make up for lost time

I wouldn’t do that. They’d make you sell your wedding.

Bucket list item- go to Ireland 🇮🇪, live in a seaside cottage and write a novel while there! ( I have no writing skills but still want to! ) lol
Love this!
I’d watch your comedy special George!!
Love it!!!! Thank you!!!
I cracked up so many times during this, you guys are great! 😂❤
Yes George!!! Baby lullaby
I'd watch that comedy special!
Rachel saw Taylor? How much did you pay for your ticket?? Did you get it pre-sale or did you have to buy expensive scraper tickets? I spent $1,600 on my resale ticket. Bought them from the stadium
George you go!!!! I gleefully do NOT do country music either🎉
Rachael got her JNCO jeans on good lord lol
Rachel, don’t go to Maldives. It sucks. Go to Bora Bora instead - waaay better! 🎉
Rachel, I would love to apply for the adoption thing for my daughter! She has several autoimmune diseases which have led to 4 miscarriages in the last 5 years. Idk how you can live in the Nashville area and not love country music.
Not everyone needs to like farm emo
I don’t know how anyone could NOT like country music 🎶 regardless where they live hehe 🤠
