How much bhp did it make?
@@arnoldkul3827 it was very low powered for 2 main reasons, it is used on track and needed endurance and the turbo actuator was very weak being high miles. Its now been repaired and its a completely different car to how it was when this video was filmed.

Mk2 had a Dodgy gearbox the length of time in between the shifts were insane 😂 I’m sure if Gearbox was okay it would have been faster or at least even. I enjoyed this hugely 3.2 sounds amazing 🎶

I think maybe the Driver Didn't had enough time in it ... Or maybe sh*ty downshifts ? Felt like a infinity to downshift that ... The flywheel didn't assist as well.
i knew something was up not only does the v6 mk2 make it power noticeably faster but also makes 40 more bhp, with an instant trottle no turbo lag longer power band and it was lighter. it just doesn't make sense how the mk5 won especially on track makes it even more sus.
didn't understand why they had a corrado 5 speed box with a 3.2 v6 that comes with a 6 speed manual anyhow that will slot right into a mk2!
Nothing wrong with the box. It was fully rebuilt less than 1k ago.

Being a tuned mk5 gti owner and former vr6 corrado owner I must say I’m am very much so enjoying this program.
I like Becky in these videos.
I had a 2004 R32 for a few years and it was loads of fun.
Should have kept it as its worth like $50k AUD now.

Can you comment on Stig's slow shifts?
@@loomspace I wasn’t there on the day. But the car does shift faster than that. I can only put it down to lack of seat time in the car. All the modified cars are privately owned cars. So they probably didn’t want to risk damaging them by lapping them all day long.
Damn I miss my MK2 after seeing this. Gotta say though between Becky, Chris, Jack and a couple others the RUclips channel is becoming more entertaining to watch than the show.

232bhp from what’s most likely a stage 1 mk5 should be more around 250bhp or 270 if stage 2
yeah and no way it only putting out 200lbft more like about 260-280lbft if mapped

Tires were not given for the best, I think if you ride the rims of the tracks to break a difference of 3 seconds only

I'd love my golf mk4 gti to go on the top gear test track I know I can make easy work of an R32 mk5 so can't imagine what the stig will do
is your car standard? because unless it's tuned I can't imagine it's faster than the R32
That driver was a bit looser than the usual stig. Need to bring back the real one. Then those times will be way better.

Vr6 swapped mk2 for my garage. Just needs more handling, brakes, and some boost. Nothing a few grand wont fix

Way more revs to play with between shifts in the mk2. Driver was being a bit conservative there
If both these cars were set up for track use the results would be much closer. That being said DSG Is a huge advantage. I'd have the old one though;)

I'd take the mk2 but the mk5 chassis is light years in front but that's to be expected.

But that MK5 isn't subtly modified, it doesnt look good with the LED lights and paint job featuring rusty arches. and the MK2 looks a bit rough around the edges too

Rather slow gear changes in the mk2! Disappointed.
Looks like a heavy flywheel, revs aren’t dropping fast enough to slam the gears without unsettling the car

I loved all the 11 mk2 I owned. Ive had most models .different .several special things.
I loved my black 86 2 door jetta with sunroof.
I'm from Canada and I had done everything to my 8 valve. Holds with 5.0 beat irocs and just the vette is slightly faster. All are slow now

232 bhp for that mk5 's low seems more cosmetic mods my mk2 Leon runs 240hp with just stage one no silly exterior mods

The board doesn’t make any sense, you need to start writing the horsepower of the cars, otherwise we will have many Mk5 golf GTI with different times and other modified cars with the same names

my bets on the mk5 gti was lowballing. bet its got more then 230hp. and the vr6 Golf probably has not the claimed 270hp. these vr6 engines usualy underperform a bit.

I think Stig was sandbagging. I've raced a stripped out Mk3 Jetta with a tuned engine and suspension and it was able to keep up with much faster stock cars. He really didn't seem like he was pushing the car at all.
Massive (heavy) engine on a 40 year old chassis won't help around the corners...
And had an LSD too...

why wouldn't a modified MK5 with 15% extra power over stock, not beat the stock cars lap time set in 2004
A more talented driver in the mk2 would have blitzed the mk5. The mk2 gear changes were appallingly slow. :)

Hi Becky, please consider performance premium saloons with 4 cylinders and AWD from the compact class. The Mercedes-AMG A35 Saloon vs the new Audi S3 saloon and maybe the BMW M235i Gran Coupé as well.
