I attempt to disrupt a Bank Impersonation scammer called Faran for a whole week as I wait for the police to act. This one shows just how manipulative some scammers can be.
You'll see the techniques and language that he uses to manipulate his victims. And because he had a webcam, we can see him as he runs his Bank Impersonation scams against US citizens.

I work for Chase Bank. I am watching this video now, and paused it at the point where he spoofed the number so I could comment. When customers tell me "but they called from the number that is on the back of my card". I tell them THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD IS FOR ---OUR CUSTOMERS TO CALL US---, WE WILL NEVER CALL FROM THAT NUMBER!!! Yes I know that is in all caps, and I won't apologize. I can't stress enough to people how to look out for scammers. I talk to victims Every. Single. Day! 😢
Thank you... I'll pin this as it may help a few others.
Your all caps portion should be printed on the card. Excellent point and I hope many people read and share that!
No need to apologize. Passing information like this is important and if you have to use all caps, then so be it.
Well done.

That first victim handled it so well. It's exactly how I hope my parents handle a scammer.

He probably realized he couldn't possibly be speaking to his bank when he heard Faran say his phone line was compromised.
This should NOT be how you "hope" your parents handle a scammer. What you should hope they do is not respond to fake pop-ups in the first place.
@@nickv4073 True, but it's still enjoyable to see a scammer getting called out by a potential victim.

First convincing American accent I've heard from a scammer. "I can always tell his English was good, but with maths... not so much." 🤣
I don't think he sounds convincingly American. His accent is just better than most that do the same thing he does. I'm not a native English speaker and he doesn't sound natural and American to me. Idk. Maybe it passes with very old people who can't hear well. Regardless, I am forever fascinated with the ones who have THICK accents and still insist on names like Jack Wilson or whatever. It seems to me like it makes them look more suspicious. It would be better if they picked an easy to pronounce Indian name. But no, every time they're like "Yes ma'am. The grammar did give it away though, he makes many of the mistakes which scream "english is not my first language" (eg. "the Microsoft")
Funnily enough referring to maths as maths and not math, is very European and also the proper English pronunciation 😊

The first guy, not a bad accent, but better than most. So good job, bro. They've figured out that Indian accents automatically put people on alert
But how did he get that accent?
@ArunKumarD lots of american content available online. A lot of people learn english that way
@@ryboi1337 that is not something someone from India can learn from an online course… he probably worked for years in a call-center where they had training
@@ArunKumarD talk with English speakers often, and your accent will slowly mimic theirs
I really hate their accents, it's one of the most annoying on the planet.
AVAH are legends! Keep up the good work too Jim
thank you jim browning! i’m seeing my grandparents this upcoming weekend, and i can’t wait to show them your channel and this video to warn them of the disgusting scammers out there
I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to be able to stop the scam and for the victim to go right back to the scammer. I know he's 80, but he just got told it's a scam and to call his bank, why the hell would he immediately forget all that? Some people just cannot be helped.
Another North Indian scammer lool, just block all Hindi states at this point, sorry from a Punjabi/Gujarat
Well imagine for a second that someone stands in front of your door with a nice suit on and an FBI badge asking you questions. You'd probably answer (or ask for a lawyer). To this old guy, the scammer was the authority. Why listen to some lowly retail worker while chase bank is telling him otherwise? It's super obvious and easy for us to know who to trust because we have more information than he does. He grew up in a world where you trusted people on the phone, so when the phone says it's chase bank and the number is the same as chase bank, then it's totally understandable that he went back to chase bank instead of listening to a random retail employee.
So long story short, you said he can't be helped, I disagree. He just needs to be taught how to recognize scams. 1 week of watching this channel and the old dog would pretty quickly learn a new trick. I know I was able to teach my grandpa about this and he's about the same age.
Fuck around and Find out. I am all for stopping scammers but some people asks for it and that‘s it then.
@@gownerjones1450 Let's forget about the fact that it's not a guy at your door in a suit with a badge. It's vaguely American sounding guy who is just telling you he's from Chase. Even if it was a guy with a badge, who says he's from FBI and he's telling you to go spend all your money in Hime Depot on gift cards, wouldn't you double check when someone says to you "Hey, that's a scam"? Trust the guy on the phone, but not the guy right in front of you? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
@@gownerjones1450 there are no excuses for being an idiot
Scammers are sickening.

This kind of pond sludge is the reason I'm very, very wary of people calling my Mum. She's 82, but she's still got all her marbles, thankfully, she knows what jot to do, and if she's ever in doubt she hands the phone to me so I can check. It's heartbreaking to hear these elderly people getting scammed.
Thank God for people like you Jim. I really appreciate your work . I feel so sorry for all this innocent people being scammed. Keep up your amazing work 👍🏻❤️
Great work, Jim! It's so unfortunate when the victims believe the scammers over us. It is one of the most saddening things. So proud of all the work you do!
Thank you @DEYO. Hope we can meet up again soon and kick some scammer butt!
I believe, it is the ego, to some extent. Another extend would be the scare. They are panicking and want to solve "the issue", while at the same time, their minds can not accept the fact that they are being fooled.
I've had the same in the family. It all ended well, but it took me THREE SEPARATE TIMES to convince my family member that all they're seeing is a scam, yet they kept coming up with excuses FOR THE SCAMMER why it MIGHT be legitimate. Terrifying.
HTS OFF to the Home Depot man. So often employees will get aggressive in not wanting to help. KUDOS to him for being receptive!!
That is very true, or they just don't care. This guy had apparently watched Jim Browning videos before and knew who he was. My wife told an Albertsons manager about these gift card scams and he went on RUclips and watched some of these videos and was shocked at what these scammers do. He said he was going to give his staff additional training on how to spot customers being scammed.
@@redstickham6394 Yes very true. It's just refreshing to hear someone take it seriously instead of stating company policy nonsense.
Yep, I was terrified that guy would brush Jim's warning off. I mean, I get it, they get a call from someone with a very strong accent (Jim has a strong accent to American ears), and they think he's a scammer or pranking them. I will say, most places that sell gift cards are getting wise to it, signs up at the point of sale, and I suspect the employees have been pretty well trained. That means the scammers will likely have to change tactics soon enough.

Jim you are an international treasure. The work you do is priceless ❤
Listening to the Home Depot employee was AWESOME!! GREAT WORK
Our 90year old grandfather here in AUS was scammed 3 weeks ago and was too embarrassed to tell us that he gave them a $500 gift card and then was made to purchase another $700 gift card which he hasn’t given them
At the time his wife/our grandmother was in hospital having brain surgery so he was emotional drained and vulnerable
We are giving him his money back from what he lost but these disgusting scumbags who steal money from people who have worked so hard for what they have need more to happen than what they get
Thank you to all the people who go after these scammers
More appreciated than you could ever know
The tears of a scammer are sweet and their cries of defeat, a choir of angels
This dude made me feel better about my hair.
Jim you're an actual hero. Thank you so much for helping these people.
Absolutely amazing work Jim.
Two words Jim, thank you. You have saved my parents. They did see your videos and didn't get scammed.
Another North Indian scammer lool, just block all Hindi states at this point, sorry from a Punjabi/Gujarat
Love it when the scammer's greed is their downfall. NO store will sell that many gift cards.
Another North Indian scammer lool, just block all Hindi states at this point, sorry from a Punjabi/Gujarat
It's a zero-risk situation for the scammer. If the store says they don't sell that many, the old man would have just bought as many as he could, with the same excuse. Either way he would have been fleeced for thousands of dollars.
@@gownerjones1450 yes but going in and asking for $10,000 of gift cards will result in the store telling him it's a scam.
The gift card industry dhould just be max £40 and once a week limit purchase. Waste of time, and dangerous, if you need to give money to relatives as a present, just give cash.
@@DrumToTheBassWoopBy your logic gift cards should just be outlawed because then gift cards would have no use at all ever. (not saying that is a bad idea tho)
Thank you Jim for all you do! 😊
Mad props to Geo, and to you, for caring for potential victims and doing something to help them out. I absolutely loved that he recognised your voice! 😊
Good for that first guy giving the scammer (i.e. “Chase Bank”) a hard time … if my credit card company tells me there’s fraudulent activity on my credit card, the next thing they should be telling me is my card will be cancelled and a new one will be issued which is what happened with my Dad a while back. I’m pretty sure it was as a result of being scammed but thankfully he didn’t lose a lot of money.
It's such a shame, I'm an english tutor and he actually speaks english extremely well. Straight up, there's tons of opportunities someone can get from speaking it at this level and he just... uses it to scam. Actually disgusting lol
Yup, this guy obviously had a choice. He chose to be a lowlife scammer. I hope that he will get caught and jailed.
Exactly!! And he's probably reasonably good with computers too so why not be a freakin voice actor & or do something within IT!?? Boils my piss that they target the elderly
@@siy8230 A voice actor? lol
Hey 'English tutor' - it's "there are tons" not "there's tons." Learn some grammar before making people pay money for your lack of grammar
I used to worked in a BPO and I'm familiar with people who are of Faran's calibre and his accent. Apart from the topic (telemarketing script) they generally lack deep english understanding. Of course they can excel very well with proper education. They do pick up really fast.
What makes me really piss is that these smart @ss are prevalent in most call centre and their attitude drive me nuts.
Mr B I LOVE YOU!! You’re doing so much great work!!
Thank you for being such an incredible human being in a world that doesn’t have enough of people like you!!! We need more of you!
Thank you!
You are awesome, Mr. Browning. Thank you!
I love the fact the guy at the store knew your voice. Thats the most amazing part
Now imagine my surprise when I heard Jim's voice on daytime BBC 1. No face reveal of course. Fortunately the BBC now frequently broadcast anti scam TV programmes that means that a lot of people are far more aware of the tricks used. Also romance fraud (no Jim in those!) etc. Public awareness can only help, as does the fact that most British companies now use "UK based call centres" as a marketing thing. Someone of Indian heritage that was born here has a very different accent.
Those Kolkata accents stand out. The Indian government destroyed their own legitimate call centre service industry thanks to corruption 🙄
Unrelated, but I have to mention how thrilled I was to listen to the new Darknet Diaries episode as soon as I saw the legendary Jim Browning was the interviewee. It was a fantastic listen, highly recommended to all JB fans.
Thanks @Shadax.... I'm a big fan of DarkNetDiaries, so it was an honour to be interviewed.
ooh, I didn't know that. Thanks.
Will go check that out right now! Thx 👍

Good call, checking that now. Cheers mate!
I still can’t believe that old man keeps talking and believing … it boggles my mind
Great work man. Glad these victims had you on their side 🤙
This is why I am so diligent about phone calls to my elderly patients. I work in a hospital. They are obsessed with answering anyone’s phone call. I ask them who they’re talking to or read out who is calling them if they’re in the bathroom and ask if they know them. They don’t know any better. Spoofing phone numbers is like sorcery to them. The concept of someone calling them for such malicious reasons is so foreign. I try to do my part. Thank you for what you do Jim.
Bless you! ❤ You're right, they often don't know how easy it is for scammers to spoof phone numbers.
By the way, your pup is adorable! Dogs keep me sane in this crazy world.
Whilst I as a young man in his twenties would be horrified if I ever received a call from a number that doesn’t look like a personal one, too much scams going around these days.
I make mine come to me with any issues they have, I tell them not to talk to anyone over the phone anymore, especially if it has to do with money
Seriously, it can sometimes be frustrating but i try my hardest to be patient. They have no clue how even landline phones work even when they was in their 20s and 30s and that was the height of communication back then so with technology SO outside of their wheelhouse as cell phones and the internet they are like children having a magic trick done to them by an adult. Sorry if that comes of as patronizing but it's the absolute truth for the majority of our elderly population. Unless they was into technology and science back in their younger days AND are lucky enough to still have good mental faculties then they are truly blind to any of these scams.
0:50 Lmao Jim got access to scammer 10th CBSE marksheet 🤣🤣
Heheh. Let's just say, he was a little careless.

I hate that this scam stuff is so prevalent. I dislike that I basically have to be skeptical or ignore any incoming calls these days unless the caller ID is someone I already know of…
On the same side I’m so happy for channels like yours, Scambaiter, Scammer Payback etc because I genuinely believe these videos saved me from getting scammed out of my money from a crypto scam a couple years ago.
