I am a 77 year old woman, and so glad that I discovered this channel. I received a scam call a few days ago, telling me that there was a charge on my Amazon account in the amount of $999.00 for a Iphone.. I immediately hung up and called the number back, and got a recording that it was a none working number. Called my bank and everything was fine. Before watching your channels, I probably would have panicked and did the wrong thing. Thank you for helping the elderly to realize that they are being scammed 🙏
The displayed phone number will be falsified. Unless it's one of those scams where they need you to call them first - say, in response to a popup on your computer that you have a virus or something similar - you can assume that the displayed phone number is spoofed and meaningless. Some of the calls that I receive display a phone number that is a digit too long to be a valid phone number in my national system.
My wife who is half your age nearly fell for that one, I wandered into the room when she was on the teamviewer page. I doubt she would have paid them anything but you never know.
I just received the Amazon call today that I got charged for a phone too. I'm in my early 70s and keep up with all these scams. It was an automated message, but I still enjoyed telling them to ef off and hung up. I watch all the scam baiters and really like listening to Boda. He voice changes to a spunky old lady in her 70s and lets scammers have both barrels.
I've recieved a scam call few days ago. I instantly recognised the way was he speaking. I cussed him very bad. I told him that I'll tell the police about it. Then he went so wild on me. I really think, are these the same people who are living on earth?🤡
Jim, you are a godsend. I'm from Kolkata, and am shameful of the truth that we are scam capital of the world. Even us locals get scam calls from them, and you're doing a wonderful job tearing them apart. Thank you Jim.
@E Van I think some people do those things as the British had colonised us for 200 years in an inhumane condition. So some people, actually many people, still hold a grudge on that. Even normal white people are pointed to as britisher and are prejudiced against. This might be the case
@E Van You sound pretty racist. Sure that's not your intent though. Assuming they all hate Europeans, and its not just scammers being scammers (i.e. angry a**holes), it probably has to do with colonialism. I'd be mad too if my nation was pillaged for centuries, and plagued with famines and genocides,
@E Van the distance makes it easier not to see the victims as real. Nothing to do with race - dont be silly. The European residents they call could be black, white, brown etc etc.
@E Van I don’t see the animosity being related to the ethnicity of the person they’re calling. Seems to me that they are truly disconnected from the person on the other end of the line, they’re just the client that “owes” them. The entitlement and encouragement from the scammer management leads the call centre employees to feel the same. They are reprimanded by management if the numbers dip, so they reprimand the client that isn’t paying them the money they owe. Maybe race plays into it but I really think its just a entitlement rage.
@@MrUssy101 you sound like a scammer. You're just commenting for popularity and troll fame. It will get you nowhere. Run along little boy, i hear your Mommy calling you to go to bed.
My very smart (and scam-proof) mother in law got one of the “granny scam” calls from her “grandson” who had been in a pretend car accident and needed help (and didn’t want his parents to know). And he said if his voice sounded off, it was because his nose had hit the steering wheel. She immediately asked, “what kind of car do you drive?” And click! They hung up. I’m so proud of her!!
Sadly last year, the parents of one of my friends got scammed with that identical story... they ended up losing over $10k before somebody from the family realized what was happening... so sad, but I'm glad your in-laws are more aware of this issue!
@@andregraf3000 Its a particularly brutal one- its the one instance where I think less caution is deserved- you have to be trusting to help someone in need- usually its something petty but I always try and help if someone is in trouble on the street. One that comes to mind is someone came with a giant bag of weed saying they'd accidentally spent their bus money on it while high and would they trade it for a bus fare xD I gave them bus fare and let them keep their weed. But often its a simple thing like that, only for a few pounds- probably a scam 80% of the time, but 20% of the time it saves their arse as some people close to me have been helped. It is perfidy to do what they do there and the deepest circle of hell is reserved for them.
@@nilldata7936 airbags can fail to deploy sometimes, it happened to a friend and he had to have full facial reconstruction surgery as the impact shatterd his nose and eye socket and broke his jaw off the hinge.... @@nilldata7936 I’m pretty sure the reason she asked what car do you drive is because the scammer obviously wouldn’t know the make and model of the grandsons car, while the grandma would. Nothing to do with the airbags…
I used to work in an ISP security call center. I got about 10 calls a day from victims of these scams. It was so heart breaking to hear the stories. One method I liked to teach people is the "I don't have it anymore" response. If they ever get an even slightly suspicious call about their car, computer, or bank they should tell the person on the phone "oh I don't have that anymore". You will know it is a scammer because they will instantly hang up. With a bonus that now they will most likely mark your number as someone they can't scam.
Some scam call centres just won't take the hint to mark your number as "do not call". I'm pestered almost daily with calls from one operation pretending to be a multitude of legitimate businesses. I can tell they're all from the one operation because (a) they play every robomessage twice before connecting you to a scammer; and (b) the scammers answer with a singularly unprofessional "Hello?" instead of the usual "Thank you for calling . How may I help you today?" I'd be ashamed to type the things that I say to insult them on multiple levels (some of it spoken through a megaphone into my telephone), and they _still_ won't mark me as a lost-cause "do not call".
@@willpugh-calotte2199 If you insult them they most likely will keep your number on their list just to harass you. They are vindictive like that. But if they genuinely think you don't have a car or computer etc then there is a better chance they will mark you as someone they can't scam.
@@willpugh-calotte2199 The best thing you can do to get the calls to stop is to just hang up. Don't press any buttons and don't talk to anybody. Just hang up. Eventually (it'll take awhile) your number will get marked as an invalid or not in use number and the calls will slow to few and far between. I used to get calls all the time, would repeatedly tell them not to call me (not in those words though lol). Then I started just hanging up and now I very seldom get scam calls. Maybe 1 or 2 every few months is all I get.
One of my ex worked in met technologies She told me that she is into sales and that she was really good at her job. Wanted to learn Spanish for some reason. After this she ghosted me for six months and then somehow blamed me for moving on. The way she always managed to play the victim to get everything done Guessing she was a refund scammer.

Because I watch these videos religiously, I was able to stop my grandparents from being scammed a few days ago. Thank you so much for providing this content. I used your videos in order to help educate them on scams.
My favourite question is, "What time is it? You have 6 seconds." My favourite answer is, "My name? Jim. Jim Browning." SO many times, they immediately hang up and I get a nice little chuckle out of it.
This project is a beacon of hope amidst the torrent of deception, the collaboration here is the IRL version of the Justice League. There's not enough time left in eternity to say thank you enough to these angelic superstars.
As a native Spanish speaker, I would love to help you guys out with some basic Spanish to make people aware of these scam calls! It may not be much and y'all may already have some help in that department, but a little extra help can go a long way 😁 Best of luck and THANKS for all your hard work!
Thanks for mentioning that Michelle, and I hope you get a response on this. A diversity of language speakers eventually would be an important goal for the scam busting call center. I only speak English, but get Chinese speaking robo calls a lot here in US. I know they’re scammers because I’ll hear them mention Amazon or Verizon, FBI (ugh) said in the midst of what is indecipherable to me. I always feel sad and disgusted when I delete these on my voicemail when I think that some, especially first generation older Chinese Americans, are getting preyed on as easy targets.. I prevented my neighbor (actually a couple of times on different occasions) from getting scammed. The situation was some scam electric company would get into our apartment building, knock on doors and tell residents that they needed their account number, and even that they were sent by their current electricity provider ( all bs). Once they get that info they say you need to sign a contract, you’ll save a lot on electricity with this “new program”. Regrettably a neighbor victim of this said his electricity bill more than doubled (he’s speaks mostly Spanish). So, Anyway, I overheard them knocking on my other neighbors door, Eastern European who speaks a little English). By the time I got dressed to go over and warn her she’d already signed up. We went out and chased the person down the street and demanded the paperwork back. (we were like pit bulls, chasing a rabbit!). We got it and tore it up! Ha, Ha! Once we called police and informed all of our neighbors of this manipulative bait and switch we never saw them again.. Another time before that I intervened when I ran into one of these perps in the downstairs hallway and gave them such a lecture ( after scolding, I also suggested they can do better than this with their lives), told them to get out..this ran them out of the building before they had a chance to knock on doors (actually I did this on a couple of occasions ) I wasn’t afraid of them even though I’m older female and smaller, actually they were taken so off guard they were afraid of me (and maybe afraid of the truth, about what they do means). Thanks for reading! Be safe though..
As another native spanish speaker, I can't fathom how someone would fall for that scam coming from India, we already tell legit companies with actual fellow Spaniards who know how to speak to fuck off
Jim is THE man! The fact scammers are asking victims if they have heard of Jim, is making scammers worried about who there talking too. BIG respect to you Jim; and Perogi and everyone else.

Hell, if I remember even Jim got scammed once (one of his previous videos). Just remember that.

That's bit different what you said, but point is assumptions can be wrong). The call center was awesome, seeing you guys all in one place through multiple Livestreams working hard to help innocent people and take down scammers was the closest to a real-life superhero mission I've seen lol
They make hundreds of thousands in a day. The call centers rent out the desks and computers, all it takes is some software on each desk and a master computer and they are in business.
I’m pretty sure most people only do these scams due to the fact that they can’t find jobs either which is pretty messed considering some countries are very poor and people do what they can to get money to feed their families
You can do the same too, when you were called up by a dushbag. Just scam it back :) and don't hang up the phone quickly. Make the scammer angry and nervous 🤣

I would also advise that you use a different phone if you call your bank, amazon or whoever to check. Sometimes the scammers leave the line open (they don't hang up) & if you use the same phone then you are not actually dialling out, the scammers are still there & pretend to answer your call.
Another piece of advice, legit call centers never connect us to agents in a flash. I gotta wait a minimum of 10-20 minutes to actually get to a real agent. These guys connect in a flash, that should be a redl flag.
This simply doesn’t make sense. Why not just tell them to make sure you hang up your phone? The majority of people use cell phones these days, all which have a clear indicator that the call is disconnected. Land lines have a dial tone, once you hang up on someone, the call is disconnected regardless if the other person stays on the line, if you pick up the receiver, there will be a dial tone. It would take beyond belief stupidity to not know you didn’t disconnect the line. If you are saying to someone that stupid, that they need to use a different phone… then there’s no point.
@@jerryantony1040 definitely. I don't think I've ever called any government line without being on hold at least an hour. Scammers want you to think agents are always available.

Thanks to Jim and the others for doing this, at least it disrupts them and keeps them 'on their feet' so to speak. more power to your combined elbow!
It would be better if there was an alternative to the landline for lonely elderly. Maybe some kind of remotely activated video conferencing system with a few friends and family? But at this point, the landlines are primarily a vector for fraud more than anything.
@@runvnc208 Might be better but there are walls you would have to break down. And orgainizing it would take time and money. Banks could also be more proactive in preventing fraud since they’re always going to be involved in it somehow. Like ensuring that people cannot put ridiculously large sums of money onto gift cards. Even flagging it as potential fraud and forcing people to have to call them to sort it out could prevent a lot of money from being stolen.
@@diamonddiaz297 I think the banks are already somewhat active here which is why the scammers tends to use gift cards (the bank cannot see that you are buying a gift card, only the store knows that and it's also the store that redeems the gift card so the bypass the banks completely by going the gift cards route).
At least one would think that it would be in their interest to not be associated with scams and thus funding such work even if they don't care about the end users at all, so it's kinda strange that they don't already.
@@Henrik_Holst But they're not interested if you prevent a fraud. At work we had a scammer try to change the big cheese's bank details for his pay. Being suspicious we checked and found no such request of his. We tried to pass the bank account details to the relevant bank (to prevent further fraud and to lead to a trail of the fraudsters) but they were not interested unless there was a police incident number to a fraud actually having taken place (the fraud of pretending to be our big cheese didn't count: it had to be a successful money fraud). The bank involved didn't seem too concerned that now they had been warned that one of their accounts was being used in a fraudulently way they would likely be liable for any loss to that account as they knew about it (even if they didn't know which account it was as they didn't want to know).

Unfortunately, I've been a victim to one of these scams. This was well before I even knew these scams went on. I lost a couple of hundred GBP. Since watching these videos I know what to look out for, and I don't answer any unsolicited calls. If only I knew then, what I know now. But you live and learn.
£200? Hell! That’s awful. I guess it could’ve been worse but it’s a horrible feeling. And one feels stupid: I did, when it happened to me til I realised lots of people, tired or insufficiently wary, get scammed, easily. Being informed is key. And staying that way. 🤗
Events like this restore my faith in humanity. It shouldn't be necessary, but god damn is it good we have people like you fighting it. That ending segment with advice was particularly keen, especially "don't ever feel like you can't be scammed." Jim himself fell for that youtube scam. That doesn't make him stupid or ignorant, it's just the reality of how despicable and cunning these scammers are. Anyone can fall for it, and everyone should be on guard about it.

That’s awesome. Be careful because there are scammers spamming the comment section of all the scambaiters. If you’re ever not sure, ask! Please
Keeping yourself informed seems to be the best protection now. Unfortunately, we live in a world where you can't trust many people.

@E Van I think some people do those things as the British had colonised us for 200 years in an inhumane condition. So some people, actually many people, still hold a grudge on that. Even normal white people are pointed to as britisher and are prejudiced against.

You sound pretty racist. Sure that's not your intent though.
Assuming they all hate Europeans, and its not just scammers being scammers (i.e. angry a**holes), it probably has to do with colonialism. I'd be mad too if my nation was pillaged for centuries, and plagued with famines and genocides,
Bro this Irish lad andyou do it for fame and views. Why don’t you let natural selection take its course, there is no hope for some ppl anyway.

That's so effective, yet so simple! Never heard of that one though, I really like it.
I do this all the time. I tell them I use public transportation when they ask about my car
If you don't already, you guys should consider inviting the authorities to these operations and train them up. Keep up the good work!

Also Swiss German is too difficult to replicate on the Internet so scamming them is very, very difficult.
I also love the way you explained how VoIP works. As someone who used to program communication servers and other stuff it’s nice to hear it easily explained.
I'm from Germany and I thought he spoke regular German haha. Didn't he just say Hallo and Dankeschön? there was a part in between which could have been him trying to say no interest in Englisch 'kein interest' but I wouldn't have categorized it as Swiss German, man lernt nie aus haha

You all have saved my mother so many times because I've showed her your videos and made her realize these calls and emails are just BS so thank you!
This is really stupid, just make sure you hang up the phone??? How are people so dumb
@@jerryantony1040 definitely. I don't think I've ever called any government line without being on hold at least an hour. Scammers want you to think agents are always available.
As an Indian i spent years fighting online Fraud across the globe. Its saddening to see a few fellow Countymen run these scam call centres in such a heartless way.
There are so many people there that the percentage is actually quite low compared to the number of conmen we have in the US.
For someone like you with integrity it must be infuriating watching these people sully your country's reputation at the expense of all the Indians who are good people. And unfortunately it's far more than a few, it's a booming industry and so many young people are deceived into thinking they got a job at a legitimate tech support business. TBF though there are bad people/things in every country especially the biggest ones. As a Russian-American I'm all too aware of that fact myself.
Fortunately, I'm more familiar with the Indian nationals who are good people.

@@stepheneyles2198 true, but be it as it may, even when you take out local Indian law enforcement out of the equation, Jim and the rest of the team still do some major damage to these call centres.

Loved this video. One of my carers got scammed, she's half my age. They caught her as she was distracted with her young son coming back from school. They told her that her bank account had been hacked and she was so panicked as she was already short on money, her young son chatting at her, she gave them the info they needed. It took her a Long time to get things sorted. Any one can get caught out. Distractions, worried, panic, illness all can stop you from thinking clearly. I love your videos Jim and what you do to help people and here with others also working tirelessly to stop this ❤️
Well done everyone involved in this, no matter how small your part. Even if you're not one of the big creators doing it on camera - thank you!
I've watched my grandma turn slowly from the sharpest lady you'll ever find, in to someone who will spend hours talking to these kind of scammers. Luckily as far as we can tell, she's never lost any money, but it's terrifying to know she doesn't fully understand why we're telling her not to do certain things. We have left post-it notes and warnings all around her landline and desktop to remind her, and see her several times a week, so fingers crossed nothing happens!
My mum (93rd birthday tomorrow!) get these calls every so often, and I'm thankful that she's *never* had an email account and doesn't use a computer or mobile phone. But as she's of the generation that was brought up knowing that it's rude to put the phone down in someone's face, she does talk to them a bit before hanging up!
Even with what we know and see, the gift cards are still purchased when there are warning signs where the cards are sold.
In PA, phony people sign up real people for unemployment claims. Every week there are news stories. We hear nothing even IF they tried to trace the $$, and we don't know if the State Police did more than take the reports. Seattle / Washington paid out $50 million, or was it 600 million. Scams still continue.
No offense. Suggestions are good but someone has to actually pick up the ball. Fortunately, this Internet group is making between 25 and 250 thousand each, every month, based on subscribtions and video views. They deserve it.
Glad you guys are stopping scammers. But when people laugh like that in the background, wouldn’t the caller feel like it might be a prank? I get that you guys are happy helping but if I was the caller and I hear people chuckling in the background, it would make me suspicious.

Okay. So. You want the Goverment to spy on EVERYONE and listen to ALL your calls to make sure you wont get scammed? I mean as far as they know any phone call can be a scam call... would you give up your privacy?
In the UK we have the number 159 which anyone can call in order to be connected immediately to their own bank no matter who you bank with.

I've been watching videos like these for years, and I fell victim to an email gift card scam 2 weeks ago. Once I saw my boss's name and email address asking me for gift cards that I'd be reimbursed for later, my brain filled in the gaps and made me believe the story without question. It was an incredibly humbling and humiliating experience. The only silver lining was my realizing afterwards how many employees questioned me and did their best to stop me. Don't make the mistake of thinking you're too young/smart to get scammed. And if it happens anyway -- don't be too hard on yourself.
Yeah no embarrassment or shame there, I have been there as well and almost fell victim to one or two scams in my lifetime. Even someone as wary and computer savvy as myself can believe some of these. If Jim Browning can fall victim to a scam, anyone can.
My dad's friend's email account got hacked, and an email from him got sent to my dad asking for a loan due to some emergency while he was traveling (which he was in fact). If companies like Amazon are really sincere about wanting to prevent scams they should fund projects like this
They don't have your best interest at heart , at all
Banks could also be more proactive in preventing fraud since they’re always going to be involved in it somehow.
@@Henrik_Holst
But they're not interested if you prevent a fraud.
