Just a PSA here: The elderly are not the only ones vulnerable. My husband is NOT tech savvy at all!! I returned home from one of our kid’s baseball game to find him completely drained of color, shaking and on the verge of tears. Because he was on the phone I automatically assumed someone in our family had died. He was so shook he just handed me the phone and collapsed onto the couch. The man on the phone was in the middle of telling my husband to say goodbye to his family because the police were en route to arrest him because he didn’t have $10,000 to pay to avoid arrest. The man was telling him h would be in prison for 5 years and he was a worthless father for not paying his taxes and deserved to be locked up. (I made Perogi’s rant sound like a polite speech from a dignified head of state 😂 )
My husband was so shook he 🤮 It took weeks for him to truly believe it was a scam because he just couldn’t understand how another human being could do this to another person. It robbed him of his confidence for quite awhile which broke my heart.

I just had a scam attempt yesterday.
I needed to add my wizard number to an Avis rental. I googled for Avis customer service and called the number listed. They answered Avis Customer Service. He asked for my reservation number and dates. He stated he had added the wizard number and I was all set.
About 10 minutes later I got a call from a male stating he was an Avis supervisor and was sorry to report that due to a glitz in their system the rental was canceled and he needed to refund my credit card and then reserve a new rental. After watching your videos I smelled a rat and began telling home that a refund was not necessary and to undo their mistake. So we went back and forth a few times with me insisting that he should take care of the problem on his end. He got frustrated and hung up.
But that was not the end. When I did get the real Avis rep by phone. They told me the rental had been canceled and when I tried to rebook the scammers kept disconnecting me from Avis.
What a bummer, are they going to screw with my phone in the future? I hope this is the end of it but fear it’s not.
