Hi, I love this pattern tutorial, but I don’t know where to add the grainline to the shorts front and back. Could you please give instructions on how to do it? Thank you ❤
@@PatternStudio101Hi, thank you for the reply. The grain line is a long arrow on a pattern piece that tells you how to align the pattern piece on the fabric (whether it is the straight grain of fabric or bias etc) so you end up with a well fitted garment. The grainline is seen on a lot of commercial patterns, so I was surprised that there was no mention of where to draw it on the pants patterns and as I’m a beginner I don’t know where to draw it without instructions.
@@Amelia-ts7yb Oh grainline! In this case, the vertical line is a grainline for both front & back. The vertical line stared from the dart end to the hem on the front.
Was following it to make my own pattern but got confused at how many inches for the extension of the line that ran form the waist to the hip for the drafting back pattern
@7:07 you talk about making sure the crotch curves are trued and smooth. if i’m making pants and the inseams are angled further inwards, how do i draft the back crotch curve so that there’s no peak when connecting the front and back? the start of the back crotch curve would have to be angled upwards rather than parallel to the crotch line like you instructed here. any help?
It doesn’t have to be 90’ on both corners. Many times, front angle is bigger than 90’, and the back crotch is smaller. But when you match the inseam, the crotch curve should be nice and smooth.
It depends on the hip shape. But you have to think that the back crotch curve needs to be curved enough to wrap the hip and goes to the crotch point which is further front. The crotch point is not at the center of the thigh when you see the body from the side.
Please help, in my case, your hip in the video is 35" (89cm) divide 16 and minus 1/4" it has a negative number of -0.7875 how is it possible? please help out.
@@PatternStudio101 OMG I took 35" divided by 16cm, it should be 35" divided by 16", hahahaha, sorry for my stupid question, thank you so much for the reply Jin

Sorry, I don’t think I understand properly. From the waist to the hip?? Can you tell me which line you are talking about?
Awesome!! So definitely this pant has a zipper in front. Is there a tutorial how to fix a zipper?
Hi, what does "fix a zipper" mean?
I'm interested in knowing if this pattern also works with an invisible zipper on the side :)
@Merel The pant patterns (front & back) can be used for both. You just need to have an opening at the sideseam.
Love your white dress. Did you make it?
Hi Julie, I didn’t make this dress 😆
Would you be making a denim pants pattern at any time? Can one use this short pattern to make one?
Yes, you can use this short pattern to make long pants. Basically the techniques are the same!
Thank I will try it@@PatternStudio101
Nice lesson
Thanks 😊
Do I divide by the hip circumference?
Can you tell me which part you’re talking about?
This is incredible and helpful
I’m glad it’s helpful 😊

Pls help where is the seam allowance????
Take 0.5"
@@shurahbiltharani9891 You have to add seam allowance after you make patterns.
Greetings, please how do I get a rise measurements?
Sitting down on a chair without cushion or on a table. And measure from the table top to the waist line straight.
@6:00 you say to draw the back crotch curve lower than the front. why is that? what effect does that have on the fit of the pants?
It depends on the hip shape. But you have to think that the back crotch curve needs to be curved enough to wrap the hip and goes to the crotch point which is further front. The crotch point is not at the center of the thigh when you see the body from the side.
How can I get these pattern..hard copy.

35"÷16=2.1875
Then 2.1875-0.25=1.9375
I'd go with 2"
@@PatternStudio101 OMG I took 35" divided by 16cm, it should be 35" divided by 16", hahahaha, sorry for my stupid question, thank you so much for the reply Jin
@@PatternStudio101do I devide cm by 16 too?
@@XxmisskjxX yes, then -0.7cm instead of 1/4”
@@PatternStudio101 thank you, so example it’s 84cm so I divide it by 16 or will I have to convert that to inches?
What not foundation is this? Slack or trouser?
This is a shorts pattern drafting and you can apply to pants patterns. How do you define slacks vs trousers?
By crotch extension miss
