The last time Leo wasn’t in the Top 2 at an offline tournament was GOML 2019 in May 2019. It’s been almost 3 years since Leo was below Top 4 at a tournament until now. Proto truly did make history
Wasn't he top 3 still tho?
@@juicin5543 Top 4
@trump2024 H why are you even here bro
Technically he still hasn't gotten below Top 4 yet. Still insane his 1st and 2nd streak is gone now.
I think they mean to say Leo has never below top 2 since May 2019
It was confirmed later on in the stream that Proto was intentionally switching back and forth between his two characters in order to overwhelm MKleo's mental state. Both characters have a completely different counter-play and Proto's comfortability with his co-mains is really what won him the set!
That's the importance of maining at least two characters with different gameplans.
That's amazing. But that's only gonna win him a couple sets at most. MKLeo can learn the matchups.

Damn seeing top players get bodied by other players like this is insane! I’m sad Leo didn’t get as far but I can’t lie this tournament has been full of surprises

I've waited 3yrs for this rematch. Amazing set.
I know people will start saying Leo is washed after all the L’s he took this tourney but just a friendly reminder that Leo was 6-0’d last summit and people said the same thing and guess what happened next? I am sure he will come back stronger
Leo's about to body Collision
I remember that, people were heavily clowning him for maining Byleth until he proved everyone wrong and won a Major with him beating Tweek.
Leo don’t have the stress of keeping up the top 2 record anymore. On one hand I’d have to imagine it’ll happen more, on another I wouldn’t be surprised to see even more dominant first place finishes from him

Let this be a lesson to everyone out there taking Leo's wins and 2nd place finishes for granted. He had to work for each and every one of those wins and he will always be my GOAT.
The dude will be back at Collision and no one's gonna be ready for him.
These other top players are catching up to Leo very fast. Somebody else may very well take that #1 spot eventually
The fact that somebody had to pull this insane strategy to end Leo’s streak is absolutely insane lol
@@melomitchell8714 Make no mistake. This loss will only make him a better player. I don't see anyone taking his number 1 spot for 2 years at the very least.
@@Sancnea yea in order for another smash player to steal the 👑 from MKleo they will not only have to defeat him constantly in a major tournament but will also have to accomplish something more spectacular than what MKleo has accomplished.
Well collision might be too soon for him to go back to shitting on everyone, but yeah there's definitely some sort of warpath revenge tour run on the way lol
I am so glad that Proto finally got to face Leo again. The set at Ceo was insane despite it being B03, and really helped expose how sick Proto’s Lucina is to American audiences.
Proto also made one hell of a losers run. Hope to see him at more tournies
He has insane Roy and Aegis coming as well… (training a lot on his streams) he explained to his Japanese audience he hasn’t used them in a offline tournament but it’ll be soon when he starts using them

This was definitely a hard tournament for Leo. Leo took a break for 2.5 months since SWT while many others were still competing and specifically working on countering him. Spargo himself had been playing byleth as a way to learn the character better and how to counter it. Hopefully we see his return to grand finals in his next tournament
That's on Leo then, Proto came through ready to play and got the deserved win.
Oh, I just realized, MkLeo lost against one player of every country in Summit.
USA = Light
France = Glutonny
Mexico = Sparg0
Japan = Protobanham
As a Min Min player, seeing Proto beat MKLeo after her nerfs gives me confidence that I can still play her wel!

Proto played phenomenally in this tournament. I just wish he got the chance to play Sparg0 and see if he could be the #2 in the world as he did the #1 and #3. Can't wait to see what Proto has coming in his future whenever he completes in events in NA
Proto really did the biggest mix in Ultimate history on the GOAT and it worked.

I was so happy for Proto after this. Maybe I'm wrong, but I've felt like Japanese players have been under-performing at foreign events lately(except for when Gackt popped off at Glitch a couple weeks back), which sucked because I love watching Japanese smashers and I know plenty of them are good enough to get it done. Glad Proto demonstrated that here.
It's been a weird ride for them. Tea won Temple at France taking it over Gluto, then got 5th at mainstage only losing to MkLeo and spargo beating tweek, kola and some others. But then he under performed here by a lot even if it seemed like he would go far. Proto underperformed swt but popped of here. Zack did well at the first one getting 5th and only losing to Leo and spargo while ken under performed. Then gackt went on a great run. It's weird bag in there but there's definitely some highs and some lows
Recency bias bro. Tea got top 8 at mainstage and Proto also got top 8 at swt
You can see how intense these sets are when they drink water. They’re shaking.
I know that feeling well. It’s so addicting

he didnt underestimate he took a break for over 2 months while everone else at summit was grinding since SWT to make it this far and be off his game shows how hard hes gonna come back by collision
He really needs a secondary because as you can see Byleth and Pythra co-main have characters they can't deal with like Minmin. Leo's Pythra also needs to get better because he isnt usig them efficiently yet. I saw Leo try to use mythra upB to edgeguard so many times but dont remember it ever hitting.
@@roberttallafer2299 I think so too, I know the Joker must be rusty but I think it's a way better counterpick to min min
For someone who mains Lucina and plays against pyra and mythra all the time, its awesome to see this match up in a professionell fight. I was waiting for so long to see Proto against MKLeo again.
Yeah, I play Marth and between having the ability to go offstage to counter low recovery as well as counter photon edge, Marth and Lucina can absolutely crap on Aigis. In my case, I've found that if I pressure Aigis to the ledge at low percent, I can land a tipper dancing blade which sends far enough for an easy cheese off stage kill. I'd assume maybe Lucina can do something similar with F-smash?
if you play against a good aigis, you will land fsmash maybe 5% of all time, maybe in online I have to swing more smash attack, but thats not my playstyle. I edge guard them more
@@DucVEagle Hmm... Well I guess F-smash is fast (frame 12-13), but not as fast as DB. (Frame 9.) What do you usually do to whiff punish aigis, then? (In order to get them into an edge guard scenerio)
normal lucina edge guard I guess, with either push them from stage with side b or up air struggle and then back air to take their ressource

It looks like summit is Leo’s achiles heel. Got 6-0’d by Tweek last time and now was reversed 3-0 by Glutonny, 3-0 by Light, and 3-1 by Sparg0 and Proto. Are people finally figuring out his Byleth or this was just not his day? I guess we will need to wait for the next major to find out but if he misses grands again I think we might see the Joker’s return 🔥
Aegis curse..
At least imo. The character simply isn't for him
I think he likes the crowd
His byleth did not perform well. It was getting slapped around. I do wish he return to joker and he had an easy time dealing with it pre nerf so I’m sure he would do better now
@@JDarkAngeI People are figuring out the Byleth, he will need to adapt to their adaptation. He can definitely make Aegis work but it is clear it is not his favorite.
People figured out his Byleth! They straight up abuse the time frame. I think he knew that, that's why he turned to Aegis.

After this set it confirmed that min min is still an awesome character. Yes shes worse than before but to beat MKLeo with Pyra/Mythra (The best player in the world with arguably the best character in the game) twice with min min, thats a very good character right there.
People sleep on min min because theres not many good min min players or players that play her like at all in the west, only like dabuz
この倒し方しか通用しない!っていう択ちゃんと通したな!凄い!!
Man... I'm depressed since a few days and what I'm currently dealing with is not over and has yet to finish to take a toll on me, but this is definitely something that brightened up my monday.
I'm a day one Lucina main, and as such, ProtoBanham quickly became my favorite player. His Lucina was the biggest inspiration for mine, and I still have 27 things to implement in my gameplay and improve on as her that I noted (I also think even him didn't optimize Lucina yet, which is something I wanna do). I've seen his high and lows, I had faith in his skill, then I didn't, then I did again, and rinse and repeat. But never did I thought I'd see the day where he would beat Tweek. This was my first surprise, as Diddy Kong is not the easiest matchup for Lucina and Min Min. Then... MKLeo. Now, to be fair, I thought he could maybe beat him with Min Min. But with Lucina ? Against his Aegis ? No, I frankly never thought he would win such a fight, especially since MKLeo used to be the best Lucina. As an Aegis player myself who fought them countless times in Ditto and as Lucina, I believe they are one of her hardest matchups (still not a -2 though, I don't think she has any). Yet... here we are. He did it, he beat the best player in the world 😁.
I was kinda sad for MKLeo though. You could see how disappointed he was... but at the same time, he might have more competition now, this should motivate him. Maybe we will even see a new character from him. Hum... oh, another thing I wish to add is one of the commentaror saying something like " I think that Lucina is the perfect middle ground between Pyra and Mythra, and she's so good off stage ". I couldn't agree more (and what has yet to be optimized imo is her off stage game, her own " broken gimmick " people fail to see), and this is part of why the Aegis are my secondaries. If I can't edgeguard and keep up in neutral as Lucina, I'll pick them instead, although I would have to be a lot more warry off stage and with Pyra since mine is not as good as my Lucina and my Mythra (not boasting). I likely won't be able to edgeguard as much also.
Anyway, I guess I just want to say that as lame as people say they are, the Aegis... uh, Mythra at least, feel amazing to play as, and they are great secondaries for a lot of characters.
This set was very special to me, in a good way. I'm very grateful I could watch it 😊.

I've seen you praise Lucina before though, but I didn't know she was your main (...how can you love Lucina and hate the Aegis at the same time ? I was in the last vid complaining about leo, but every movie needs a villain, or motivation to improve and thats been leo for everyone. Im hoping they’ll continue beating him to see if he can improve and push everyone even more
I honestly wouldn't say this was a testament to people catching up to Leo, more so it was Leo having a bad tourney and everyone else playing very well. I don't think he's going to lose this way again for a while. Unless he goes into a character crisis, then I hope he goes back to maining Joker.
