I had the Tamron 35-150 F2.8and I was not impressed with it at all. In my opinion, it wasn’t sharp and it was terrible for focusing on action shots at the races. So I sold it and picked up the new sigma 70-200 F 2.8 DGDN sport lens and I flipping love it. It is so sharp and does a phenomenal job for action shots and portrait. I can only imagine what this new 28-1 05F 2.8 does. I think it would work great for my FX 30 for video at the races I attend. Sigma is killing it with their new lenses. I’ve been switching completely over to sigma and I am really happy with all their lenses.
I have a like a SL2 - S on the way. I have never shot Leica or Lumix before. If the color and contrast is anything like what I’m seeing from these files like I will be stoked.
I used to use the Sigma 24-105mm f4 with the Sigma MC21 adapter on the Panasonic S5, and that combination weighs about 885+145 = 1030g. This new lens weighs less at 995g and has a wider aperture and native L mount, and I suspect will be sharper. Perfect work lens.
@@PavSZ Honestly, I'm waiting to see this lens tested against the Leica 24-90 f2.8-4. If Sigma have done this right, it could be the perfect lower cost alternative to that lens, too. Longer reach, constant f2.8 aperture, and lighter. Fingers crossed.
My friend, your pictures are a-m-a-z-i-n-g!!!! Always, is not the lens but the man… did you think about to publish a book of your pictures? I’ll buy it 😅 by the way, this is lens I’ve been expecting ❤
Thank you very much!!! I keep trying. I have no plan of publishing my photos. It would be too hard to choose the right ones anyway. Maybe in the future, when I'm retired and I have too much time on my hands.
Wow, Pav, Sigma really are killing it ATM. 1 have the 16-28 and 28-70DG DN and I was going to swap the latter for the 24-70 ART, but I think this probably makes more sense as a partner lens. it also weights 50% less and costs nearly 2k less than Canon's 24-105 - that is some premium for 4mm. Great compact review as always, thanks dude.
And I thought I was the only one that had the 28-70 DGDN. I bought it because they didn’t have the 24-70 F2 .8 DGDN at the camera store when I showed up. I had full intentions of bringing it back, but I actually like how small it is and it does a great job for photos. Now I use it on my FX 30 for video.
@@LMActionsports I agree, it's a great lens. I've taken the two of them on foreign field trips and have been super happy with their performance as a set. But when doing walkabout documentary part of those trips for video and stills I just found myself getting frustrated at the shortness of the throw. Equally I don't want to be lumbered with a monster 70-200 in the bag, so this lens looks like a pretty much perfect fit for me. There's a bit of a hit in weight, but only 1/3 of what I would suffer if I added the 70-200, and also fewer lens swaps in the field, which is such a big deal. It just looks like a super pragmatic solution.
@@PavSZ Thanks Brother. I have the 16-28, the 28-70 & a Canon 70-200 adapted on my S5 IIX. I’m super tempted to move away from the weight on the Canon but I need to assess giving up that extra range should I need it.
I can get a sony 70-200 f/4 for a third of that price here in Denmark. Sorry but that is just waaaay too expensive. Even if its f/2.8 and not f/4. Sorry Sigma. Love you. But no.

I also feel like on top of all the cons you noted on the Tamron.. it also has a very strong green cast to it!
I had no issues using Tamron. Very sharp, no colour cast and decent AF.
Yes, Sigma are doing amazing with these new lenses
That's odd...the tamron 35-150 is very sharp and I can't tell the difference between pictures taken with it versus my sigma 24-70 2.8 DG DN lens.
Thanks Pav - nice, quick highly informative review. Those wood nymph photos and your model are highly captivating!
Many thanks!
Another amazing review. Wow what a lens. Sigma makes awesome lenses for sure.
Thanks! It really is!
Great work! What camera are you using for these images? Looks amazing.
not much to do with the camera but I have used Lumix S5II and S5IIx to shoot all the samples with this lens
I totally get that. Thanks so much for the response. You are a bad as!

this is a new standard, for sure

You are spot on with this lens. It is great but it is big
Compare it to the Canon 24-105 though, that thing weighs another 500gms.
thanks dude!

How do you carry this lens or use it on a tripod? This lens does not have a tripod collar, as far as I can tell.
it's not heavy enough to need a lens collar
Great video. I wonder how this image looks in comparison to the 28-70.
thanks!
Probably very similar. Where this lens can be better is chromatic aberration, flaring and focus breathing

Do yall think 105 is enough for sports?
that depends what sports and how close you can get to them
What are you talking about canons 24-105 f2.8 is its competition
no, it's not. I can't put the Canon RF lens on Lumix or a Sony camera, neither this one does go on Canon.
Not happy 28mm and no OS is a no buy
we can't have everything
"Not happy > 1kg is a no buy"

They're not even remotely comparable.
not comparable at all
Holy shit. Its same price as the Sony 70-200 f/2.8 GM :O !!!!
Yeah you´re screwed Sigma :D
different lens, different focal range. Not comparable at all
