For anyone who’s having really low frames when playing Java on Chromebook, turn the render distance down a couple chunks and it should be fine. Turning down the graphics just makes the game look worse and doesn’t help the frame rate much.

Does anyone know how to fix it when it says it doesn’t support the type of file? I’m getting annoyed cause I followed all the steps except for when it download because it wouldn’t open the file.
My recommendation is to use 6 chunks or 7, fancy graphics, no FPS limit, minimal smooth lighting, and using optifine. I use these settings on a little worse windows laptop with an i7 2640M (ancient cpu) 2 cores four threads, 6 GB 1333mhz ram and Intel hd 3000. The game won’t look too bad or too good, i was able to use some mods like tech guns (basically cool looking 3D functional guns with some new enemies and lots of guns), biomes o plenty, eyemod and mrcrayfish device mod. I get around 30 - 60 FPS with some dips to the 20s. Playing on hypixel without optifine (Minecraft just weirdly crashes every time I join a world or server with optifine) yields me 20 FPS in the crowded lobby and 60 FPS when at my home island. Gameplay is pretty good although my PCs temperature goes so high even when not running anything. Minecraft would be great if Microsoft just used the android version and tweaked the keyboard gameplay to fit the PC style. Hope this helps anyone. I might buy Samsung chrome book 4+ for online school, web browsing and some controller supported games. So Minecraft would be a really fun game whenever I am bored. Everyone will say “why didn’t you get an Acer aspire 5 for 70$ less than that chrome book (acer aspire 3 is 300$ for the 128GB SSD model and the Samsung Chromebook 4+ is 370$” My answer will be the beautiful sleek design. When I open it up I won’t turn it on I will just gaze at it’s looks :/ Thank so much for the video! Edit: just a suggestion from me can you try CSGO or Paladins, you could try LowSpecGamer’s tweaks if it doesn’t run well, speaking of tweaks, you can see videos from the LowSpecGamer’s to get some tweaks on your favorite games.

I would recommend buying a pc if you're gonna be playing minecraft. You can play on chromebook but I personally wouldn't buy a chromebook just for minecraft. Hope it worked tho.

Guys! If it says an error occurred while installing, just re-download minecraft then transfer it to the Linux file and install. It'll take a little longer but it should work.
After following the guidance here, I still have three lingering issues that are preventing me from playing Minecraft on my HP Chromebook 14 that was purchased August 2022: 1. All Pointer Lock flags (#exo-pointer-lock) are not available on my Chromebook. It looks like Google has removed these flags. I do not know if they will ever be replaced. I am running Version 108.0.5359.75. 2. When I try running Minecraft, I get the Error 9 code when it tries to build the world. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game three times, reset my Chromebook countless times, and gone through the directions provided through this block of installation instructions (and others) several times. 3. The latest Optifine version available is 1.19.2 but the version of Minecraft I am running is 1.19.3. There is no Optifine version released for 1.19.3 on the Optifine website yet (despite other people trying to say it has been released and then redirecting you to scam pages). I am feeling frustrated and a bit defeated through the 10+ hours I have now spent trying to get this to work on my daughter's Chromebook before Christmas. If there are any answers out there to these issues, I would really like to hear them. Thank you
@JohnRC right click on Minecraft.deb and choose the option "open with" that has an arrow next to it. then, click "install with Linux (beta)" Let me know it you have any more problems.
If you are having problems, try reinstalling linux on wifi, and make sure to do the sudo apt upgrade, but the main thing is to WAIT UNTIL THE UPDATING IS FINISHED for you to use the minecraft installer

@Eevnos when I click on the Minecraft launcher logo, it will load for 2 seconds and then do just not open. I keep on clicking and it loads for 2 seconds and just close the app. Please help me..
have to leave it running for a bit takes like a minute or two to open, by that i mean like, when you open it takes a few seconds, and when the launcher is open and you press play its gonna close and open minecraft. it takes a few seconds on each of them.

@Eevnos I have been experiencing trouble with the download, as I'm sure others have too while trying to download the file. It notifies me that "An error occured" and tells me to open the crash log. I own a Lenovo 300e Chromebook with Linux pre-installed and for about two months now, has been giving me the same error log. It is either that the download doesn't (or will never) support ARM powered Chromebooks. However, I do have an HP Chromebook (Forgot the build name) But it does not come with Linux or Google play Store for that matter. It has an Intel i3 Core but I have finally thought that they have just wasted it on a Chromebook that has no way to Install linux/linux softwares. If the answer is what I fear, then I leave with three words. You win Intel.

Go to your terminal, type: sudo apt-get update It might say you need to run on a specific command copy and paste it in the commands and then type sudo apt-get update again. Then type in the command sudo apt-get upgrade

Hi, I've followed all the updates etc and downloaded per instructions. It say installation is successful. However, when I hit minecraft launcher it appears to be processing with the white spinning circle but it never gets any further than this. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks

at the lowest render distance which is 2 chunks I was still getting 1 fps

I just tried reinstalling it and it worked for me. Try restarting your chromebook maybe and then try reinstalling the game

@Eevnos when I click on the Minecraft launcher logo, it will load for 2 seconds and then do just not open. I keep on clicking and it loads for 2 seconds and just close the app. Please help me..

have to leave it running for a bit takes like a minute or two to open, by that i mean like, when you open it takes a few seconds, and when the launcher is open and you press play its gonna close and open minecraft. it takes a few seconds on each of them.

@Eevnos I have been experiencing trouble with the download, as I'm sure others have too while trying to download the file.
It notifies me that "An error occured" and tells me to open the crash log.
I own a Lenovo 300e Chromebook with Linux pre-installed and for about two months now, has been giving me the same error log. It is either that the download doesn't (or will never) support ARM powered Chromebooks.
However, I do have an HP Chromebook (Forgot the build name) But it does not come with Linux or Google play Store for that matter. It has an Intel i3 Core but I have finally thought that they have just wasted it on a Chromebook that has no way to Install linux/linux softwares.
If the answer is what I fear, then I leave with three words.

When ever I try to install it it just says this:

Depends: libglib2.0-0 (>= 2.26.0) but it is not
Go to your terminal,
type: sudo apt-get update
It might say you need to run on a specific command copy and paste it in the commands and then type sudo apt-get update again. Then type in the command sudo apt-get upgrade

you go onto the terminal and type "sudo apt update" once you've finished retry and it should work

Hi, I've followed all the updates etc and downloaded per instructions. It say installation is successful. However, when I hit minecraft launcher it appears to be processing with the white spinning circle but it never gets any further than this. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks
