How to Setup BT WIFI Extender - Using WPS Button.

Today, I’m showing a quick demo of how to setup BT WI-FI Extender using WPS button.
Connection to your router is very easy if it supports WPS button. However, most recent routers support feature of WPS button.
In case your router does not support WPS method, then you can configure you BT Essential Extender 300 with method 2 i.e. Non-WPS method.
Quick Recap of Steps:
1 Plug the extender into a power socket near your broadband wireless router (e.g. in the same room). Wait 10 seconds for the extender to boot up. The light will be flashing slowly red.
2 Press the WPS button on your router.
3 Press the WPS button on the extender (for 1 second) within 2 minutes.
4 Wait until the light stops flashing and turns either solid green, amber or red. The extender is now configured with your hub/router, and you’re ready to find its optimum location.
If this fails (the light stops flashing and starts flashing red), please use ‘Method 2 - Without WPS button’ I will be posting a video very soon.
Connect your device such as mobile phone, laptop etc.
Light Status.
Flashing red slowly
Slowly flashes red for 10 seconds whilst booting up or when not configured yet with hub/router
Flashing red quickly
Move the extender closer to your hub/router.
Red (too far)
Move the extender closer to your hub/router.
Green (good range)
Good router signal strength. Ideal location for maximum performance.
Amber (too close)
Move the extender further from the hub and closer to the area you want to receive Wi-Fi.

The WPS process doesn't work for me. I was following steps for manual process but when I get to the BT login page it wont find my wifi ? It will find my printer my neighbours , but not my router ?

My ethernet cable has stopped working and the data light turned off. It's a bt extender 600 I think and I don't know how to fix it please help!

First, try restarting the BT extender and your router. Wait a couple of minutes to check if the Data light comes back on. If it stays off, you'll need to reconnect your extender or to your existing home network.

I thought with wps button .i didnt have to go to any webpage to finish .jus press both wps .n then relocate xtender ...please help.....

With WPS button you are not require to go to any web page. You only need to press WPS button on both extender and router. Once connection is established then relocate your extender.

Thanks for your comment. Please reset your WiFi extender again and place your extender at optimal distance. Following are steps that you need to follow:
*- If you are trying to use WPS but it doesn’t work (Too far and Too close (red) lights continue to flash), it may be that it’s incompatible with the WPS function in the extender. Try switching the extender Off then On and repeat Method 1. If it still fails, follow the steps in Method 2, to connect without using the WPS button. If you’re unable to connect using Method 2, check you have selected the correct wireless network and you’ve entered the correct wireless key. I have question: after you authenticated your WiFi to extender can you unplug it and move to your room or it should stay near your hub?
I live on 2nd floor and I'm not sure if I should buy this extender or not
Hi There,
After authentication, you can unplug and move your wifi extender to your room. But your room should have wifi signal or you can place wifi extender somewhere between your room and hub.
If you're staying on the second floor and your router on the first floor, then you should probably buy wifi extender to boost wifi signal to your 2nd floor. If you are getting a weak signal on the second floor.
If your hub is also on the second floor and you're having a good signal then you don't need any wifi extender.

To be honest I am not too sure if it's the signal or it's just our internet provider is because every time I do stream my game console it always lag and sometimes wifi cuts off so I decided to do research and ended up on your channel. Please do recommend different WiFi extender.
Another question: what does WiFi extender do and does it increase WiFi 's speed?

Thanks for your message again. Well, I am not sure about the exact reason for the lag and cut off. Since your game console is located on the second floor and your wifi hub is located on the first floor so potentially it's an issue of weak signals. However, you can try a few steps I think it might help.
1. Try using only a game console and disconnect all other devices to check if the game stream still lags. If yes then is a problem with your internet speed or wifi signal.
2. If possible shift your game console near your wifi hub and then see if it lags then it would be a problem with your internet speed. If game streaming does not lag then it's a problem with your 2nd-floor wifi signal and it can be fixed by wifi extender.
In regards to your question, WIFI extender does not increase speed, it only boosts your weak wifi signals. It actually fixes the issue of a weak signal.

My extender recently lost connection and seems like it won't re-connect at all using the WPS method or manual method. I tried reseting it also... any tips??

Thanks for your comment. Please check the status of extender lights and follow troubleshooting steps mention in description.
If it does not work then check light status on your router. It could be possible that your router is not working.

Mine doesn't stop flashing amber slowly
Hi Dimitri, light is flashing amber because your extender is not placed at an optimum distance from the router. I hope below mention steps will help you in resolving your issue:
If your extender connected to the wifi router and you are able to browse the internet. If yes then you need to keep extender at an optimum distance from the router.
If your extender is not connected to the router and light is flashing amber. It means your extender is trying to Authentication with the router.
I would suggest to unplugging your extender and plug it near your extender and re-do the setup. Once setup is completed and light turn green, then plug extender at the optimum distance.
Light status:
Light Amber: Extender too close to hub/router.
Amber flashing: Authentication in progress.
