I maybe particularly in love with GSPs , but until you own one, you don't truly understand how intelligent, independent, high energy, loyal, protective and hard headed they are. It is bred in and you will see it even as a pup. She is so correct by putting on a collar it turns on the GO switch, then they are ready to do something outdoors. God bless all dogs and people that help them. Please give a little something to the SPCA.
I have 2 collars for Gracie (my gsp) The primary collar is the pinch collar. The secondary collar is similar to your collars. The pinch collar gives me control over the gsp while walking. The second collar is my safety collar in case the pinch collar becomes unhinged.
How old was your first gsp when you got your younger one? Did they become best friends instantly or was there an adjustment phase? Any jealousy or problems between them? Do they sleep on top of each other? I've seen some do that. We're picking up our second one tomorrow!!! Excited but a little nervous. Twice the fun but twice the crazy sounds like a mixed bag. Thanks for the lovely, down to earth videos.
My older one was 3 years old when we got the 2nd. They were not instant friends, but they do not hate each other. The younger one is extremely jealous though. if I pet the older one, he will bully his way in to get petted too. They don't cuddle much together either like I've seen others do. But they do like to play!
Tammy, thank you for addressing this topic! Might I add that my personal I.D. tags simply say, "Call For Reward", followed by our 2 mobile/cell phone numbers....that ALL. I don't want people knowing y dog's name OR where I live. There are some pretty unscrupulous folk out there and too much info supports their agenda. And...cash is king. ;) Thanks again!
@@Tammy_Bashore My pleasure Tammy. I've been at this a LONG time (40 years) and still am learning. " Dog training isn't a destination, it's a journey." I pride myself in staying at the leading edge but also knowing when to discard processes that are....trendy. Most of my stuff came from dogs....LOTS f dogs from a very wide variety of bird dog breeds. The Good Lord has graced me so I still learn/train to this day.
My GSP body shape is such that we have to use a martingale collar or she'll slip right out of it. Did you not have any issues with the collars sliding off over their heads?
Hi, love your video's. I'm in the process of getting a GSP, I am working with a breeder and momma needs to have the litter this summer so I can get a female. I liked the name Birkeleigh, didn't know that was your guys name.
@@Tammy_Bashore can I ask your opinion on an GSP being a med alert service dog? I’m considering the dog doing bite work/agility & lure coursing as well.
As far as training for your GSPs did you do it yourself or use a trainer? What methods did you find worked best for their energy to get them to still be able to focus and obey you?
I can't remember what these are. But if you measure the circumference of your dogs neck, that will help you find the right size. Each dog I different. Even my 2 are different sizes.
One is a leather collar with name plate and the other is nylon. Both were found at Cabela's/Bass Pro, but I'm not sure if they are still available. Sorry.
Oh man, sorry! I looked and couldn't find one on Cabela's site anymore. But I do see Macks Prairie Wings online has some, as well as Gun Dog Supply. Good luck!
Thanks for your video, much appreciated! Is there anything you can say about the recent, or not-so-recent concern regarding grain-free dog food and linking it with dilated cardiomyopathy? i don't know anymore what my dog is supposed to eat. Thanks
Hey! I've been doing my research and will probably make a video about that concern soon. From what I have gathered, It isn't so much all food labeled "grain free", but its an ingredient that is often used in "grain free" food. I currently use American Journey, which is grain free and not on the list of those currently reported to cause issues. (the AKC put a list out of those that have been reported). But American Journey contains the concerning ingredients (such as lentils, chickpeas, pea protein, etc), so I recently made the switch to Eukanuba 28/18.
@@Tammy_Bashore Got it! it's even more concerning for us Europeans who don't really know much about this issue as there is no information even on the internet, except for english sites, so i'm not really sure what to think about this. Hopefully it gets sorted out soon, as for now i'm gonna stick with grain inclusive product too. Thank you and have a nice day

I'd like to suggest that people give to people first. These are tough times.

My youngest escaped as a puppy out of his collar but we haven’t ever had trouble since! Sounds like you have Houdini on your hands!
Thanks
Cabela's Canada did not carry the ID collers. They have something similar but not the ID ones. Guess I need to make a trip down to the US.
James Shaw bummer! But any collar that has your name and phone number on it will do!
Lion country also has this type of collar.
Tons of colors too

Deborah Font it is! We spell it Berkeley. But I love the way you spell it for a girl!
Deborah, I hope you train or find a trainer that can actually COMPLETE your GSPs training. Most of what I see in this medium are GSFs.
What size collar is the right size for puppy and once grown
You just measure their neck to find the right size. Each dog is different.
Beautiful! Getting a male in a week! Can't wait! (Enzo will be his name!)
Love that name!

What is the black strap and the orange collar, I looked online and it wasn’t on any of the ones they have on their website

@@Tammy_Bashore I was just wondering on the orange one if that black little strap was on it when you bought it? It almost looks like a black zip tie.
Or maybe a rubber light of some sort. It’s on the new orange one but not the chewed up one!! I love your gap’s!!! Me and my fiancé just got one!
Hello do you have a more recent link. I looked on cabelas fount the Collar but I can’t find the option for the identification label
