Finn is so cute!!! ive never heard of a tenrec before :)) i'm adopting my first hedgie next month and i just wanted to thank you and your videos for teaching me how to care for them!
Thankyou so much for all your videos, my little hedgie comes home 9/27 and my handsome little tenrec will be coming home right around the same time (should find out the exact day of transport sometime this week.. I ordered the midwestern double critter nature that you have and plan to do a more natural approach for my tenrec and use fleece for my hedgie. I’m seriously watching all your videos! Please keep them coming , there really isn’t much out there on tenrecs especially
Merlin, Finn's brother, is VERY picky. He only eats small mealworms. He LOVES Butter worms and Waxworms. He also enjoys Phoenix worms. He will NOT eat his hard food, but I still put it in. Finn moves so much easier than Merlin. Merlin has problems getting around. Not sure why.
+Jennifer Freese How's his temperature holding? Finn was having some issues at room temperature, even though I was told that was a good temp for them and that they didn't need extra heating. Apparently that was only true for some tenrecs because I got him a heat lamp and bumped him up to 77°-80° and he has been doing so much better! And eating a ton more!
I got him a heat lamp, but if he goes down to the bottom of his cage he might get to cold and can't/won't go back up to warm up. Every time I put him on the heating pad he perks up. Last night he was a little rocket! It's hard maintaining a temperature.
@@standingbackstandingby8744 :( Sadly Merlin passed at 9 months. He never developed an immune system and passed from pneumonia. We saved his brother, Cosimo, from the breeder. She ended up being a horrible breeder. He is doing wonderful after many close calls. We use a Dyson Temperature Controlled heater now and everyones warm and happy.
He isn't from anywhere near me unfortunately, he is from North Carolina while I'm in Ohio. You will likely have to have one shipped from another area or take a road trip to a breeder. Unfortunately with how rare they are in the US it is pretty common to have to buy out of state.
My GusGus is the first tenrec I have owned after having nearly 100 hedgehogs in the past 15 years as I am an hedgehog rescuer. He is 1 1/2 and I got him when he was four months old. We are learning "The Tenrec Way" together. I have a few questions for you. First of all, Gus has very dry, flaking skin, mainly on his back from the neck to just above his duck tail. I have taken him to the vet and they ruled out mites and put him on a completely useless moisturizing spray. I have used olive oil on him and it works for a few days but then the flakes come back and he does loose quills in that area. He doesn't scratch very much. I wonder if it is because he is a VERY picky eater and only eats mealworms. I have tried waxworms and roaches and he will eat one or two but that is about it. He is in a very mild torpor right now and sleeps most of the time. Is it all right that he doesn't eat barely at all? I weigh him every day and he stays between 220 and 224 grams. He does poop and pee regularly so I have to presume he is eating at least one or two worms. I have an order ready to go to Rainbow Mealworms for Butter worms, wax worms, phoenix worms. What else do you suggest other than roaches because my husband won't have them in the house. Like you, I am a mom to 3 hedgehogs, GusGus, two Syrian and two Roborovski hamsters, two wonderful, adorable rat boys, a cocker spaniel and a Boston terrier. GusGus is the love of my life and I want to make sure I am doing everything I can for him. I really love your RUclips videos. Do you have a Facebook page? Oh I also ride horses and have a gorgeous liver chestnut Thoroughbred mare named Finale.
Hi Tori. I love your videos and you have helped me so much to prepare for getting my Lady Lillith. Do you have any advice on how to get a tenrec to eat a variety of bugs? Mine currently will only eat morio worms (superworms) and completely ignores any other bugs offered no matter how hungry she is.
Thanks for sharing! We just got a Tenrec, also around 6 months old. Question for you, how much do you feed Finn daily? I keep thinking our girl is not eating enough - specifically kibbles. - but having a hard time finding information on how much they should be eating. Similar to yourself, trying to provide a balance of kibbles and insects. She seems to like the latter much more.

My tenrec doesnt want insects. So far he eats only minced meat (pork prefearably) and his kitten kibbles (no grain). I want him to be healthy but he is so picky! what else can I try?
Hi I just recently got a lesser tenrec and she is 4 months old I was just wondering how often you feed yours the live food and how many meal worms would you give it?
+Dylan Hillman He gets live insects daily, it's his main diet. If I'm just feeding mealworms (his staple bug) then I'll just fill his bowl and he eats as many as he wants. If I'm feeding a variety that day then I will provide maybe ten mealworms with one or two or each other insect depending on size. My tenrec self regulates so I haven't had many issues with him overeating so I don't pay too many attention to how many I give.
Aww Finn is Soo sweet😊❤️thank you so much for all the food diet for lesser tenrec's pugpibblehedg ,I don't think I can hold all the worms 😳😫 how's the hedgehogs doing?
+Nicole Bezanson Hedgehogs are doing great! :) Tenrecs are prickly but they have much shorter quills and tend to not use them often. You only need to take a tenrec to the vet if they're sick or if you'd like to do annual checkups. I /believe/ the oldest tenrec to date is 22.

What breeder did you get Fin from? I've been searching for one near me but I'm not having much luck😕

Where did you get Finn? I've been researching for months and cannot find a breeder anywhere.

Can they be fed dried mealworms?
Hi, I live in the UK and I'm looking for a tenrec but I can't find a suitable one anywhere! Someone help me
For your water dish what size did you get

Funny enough my Tenrec enjoys her water bottle (we still have a bowl of water available right next to it)

Are Phoenix worms the same as calciworms?
Yes :)
Lots of variety for Finn 🖒
can you make one about hedgehogs?
+mj hall I have one. It's in my hedgehog playlist :)
I love fin but can't deal with bugs 😨😨😨 I can kinda deal with meal worms ill stick with headgehogs
Hedgehogs should have bugs as well, it just isn't their main diet :)
Are wax worms Maggots?
+Hammy Cats69 No. Maggots are fly larvae, waxworms are moth larvae.
Ah right. Thank you. xx
Third comment also pugpibblehedgie ur hedgehog is so cute but I hav never seen this type
