All the failures with the CTIS involving the relieve valve sticking open are imbalance in air flow. You didn't need to remove/replace the entire wheel valve assemblies. Just cleaning the filters would have gotten you going. I'll eventually get my CTIS video made going over the whole system. I fought mine for almost 10 months and learned every single little troubleshooting tidbit and nook and cranny about the system in order to make it work properly.

Can’t wait for that video. Based on the amount of crust that was in my wheel valves, makes me wonder about the rest of the system. They have definitely had some moisture in them.

@@BrokeOverLand With your environment, I think moisture is unavoidable. The plus is that the filters did their job! The newer style short hoses get rid of the kneeling valve that's a huge trouble spot. Rebuild your old valves and have some spares. Thank you for your videos. I'll be watching your A/C install another 10x as I'm doing mine soon. 😎

Thanks for video. Finally once again Hydious Dystromoods was proved wrong.
I think beads dust can make their way in between ctis seals and do abrasion on shaft surface. Then they can go to ctis dump/exhaust valve while deflation. Also beads dust may go past ctis seals to outer bearing and to axle.

Air moisture will cause the rust.
    Dryer doesn’t get it all

I treat the diaphragms with ATP AT 205 to keep them vibrant, fresh, and rubbery.

Nice vid. Air tanks have rust? I know ours has a dryer cartridge for the air system (looks like a big spin-on oil filter)

I haven’t seen any signs of rust when I drain the air tanks. Probably, a good time to do a visual inspection on the inside.

You should buy a lottery ticket. I checked my old valves before sending them to Colt and did not find any balance beads. You have a unicorn for sure. As far as the oil goes in the ctis lines don't waste your time messing with it. The only thing you need to do is service your air dryer and possibly hone and rering the air compressor. You can also add the check valve to the air compressor as an additional precaution. My guess is the old crusty valves caused this problem and you will most likely never see it again.

The beads where trapped in the line between the filter at the valve and the kneeling valve. Getting rid of the kneeling valve should solve the issue. As for the oil. It smelled like axel grease. But I’m going to service the air dryer anyway.

@@BrokeOverLand it's normal to have residual grease after a full service like that. I would not be worried. I service my air dryer every 6 months or 10000 miles

Dystromoods, you see unicorns quite often. What do you smoke when you "fix" your truck.

Any chance you have a source for the filters? I got the rebuilt kit for my valves but they came with a different filter. Also, when I got my truck my air dryer was bad and I had a lot of corrosion In my break cylinders. You may want to check yours and replace the diaphragms while you’ve got everything apart. Mine were all cracked.

Good call. I had the brakes checked by a shop when I first got the truck. But with that crust I’ll be going back over everything. Sorry I don’t have a line on the filters. But @callmecolt probably knows where to get them.

Found some at eastern surplus for $10 each. Seems outrageous, but I guess that’s supply and demand for you…
I just watched Colt’s video and he did it right by replacing the chambers. The only thing he should have done was to replace the wedge assemblies or at least clean and greased them. Neil @ Endless Adventures did a great break service video a while back and I just watched his video and looked over the manuals and it was pretty straightforward. I’m not sure what break service your shop did for you, but my rear breaks looked pretty Ugly. Hindsight, I wish I had replaced everything just for my own piece of mind. Neil also did a video on CTIS seal replacement and rebuilding the hubs. I’ve seen you do things that are far more complicated and I don’t think you’ll have any issues if you choose to do it all yourself. Best of luck.

what do you use after this problem? do you use the antifreeze or glass bead again?

    • @BrokeOverLand

100% sticking with the balance beads. Just got rid of the kneeling valve.
