Thanks for the information about the wheel. Your timing is perfect for me. Yesterday I’m having problems with my wheels leaking. Started looking for how to correct the problem and you show up.😀
I'm very happy that I could be a resource for you. We all need to stick together and help each other out the best way we can. Cooperation is key to having a success community of FMTV owners. So many people have helped me, so it is only right that I give back. Sadly, the cleaning of my wheel valve did not completely fix the problem... so I'll be ordering some new diaphragms. When I get a source, I'll add it to the description. Cheers!
The main CTIS dump valves on the truck make that same sound, they just do it very briefly as the control valve on the Pressure Control Unit de-pressurizes/dumps the system air pressure very quickly...
I am just missing the "dump" valve, which in its place will be the second ball cock like we talked about last month. The rains have started, and I really wanted to get this trailer ready before then, but it looks like replacing the wheel valve diaphragm with a new one is on the horizon. Cleaning this one up did not fix the problem... sadly. It was well worth a shot, though.
Helicool's Helipad yea, it may have a split or pore in the rubber, or a defect on that seat in the center. Your valve internals appear different than the one I have had to work on here. On mine the inner seat was part of and machined into the cast inner housing, and not a screwed in component like yours appears to be. The diaphragm also appeared different on mine and I think mine just has a plate instead of a cap so perhaps there are different designs out there. I applied a little silicone grease to my disc when I re-assembled it to help the diaphragm stay pliable... since your center seat is screwed in, perhaps it is loose or is leaking around the threads. Also did you pull the other one apart to see if they are assembled the same? Unlikely as they are pretty simple, but things happen:)
rronmar I’ve been wondering what else it could be. I also put a lite coat of grease on the diaphragm... I did not check if the screw on internal center piece. I also have not pulled apart my spare CTIS... though I did try it to see if it would work... it was also a no-go. I hope the culprit is not the pressure valve, though if it were, I’d thing both tires would deflate.
Helicool's Helipad that sound the dump valve makes is it venting to the atmosphere. Once that happens there should be no pressure on the inside of the wheel valve diaphragm to push it away from the seat, that spring should squeeze it down on the center valve seat to seal the air in the tire.
Dave I have recently purchased a 1998 LMTV A0 and after a lot of reading and fixing it starting to come around. All your video’s have been a great help Thank you. Currently i am working on replacing rear brake chamber that’s leaking and while i was up under the belly i figured i would look to see why the CTIS wasn’t working and it appears the valve that is hissing in your video is just flat gone and hose just a dangling. I was looking for some guidance per the repair manual I believe it is this valve 599827 VALVE,BRAKE PNEUMAT I have looked around and have seen price ranges from $50 to $300 Do you have a recommended parts store to find this piece?
Okay, so there are two valves on an M1078 truck like the one that was pushing air in this video. I have a spare if you can’t find a replacement anywhere. These are standard parts from what I could tell. I’ll have to get in my computer and look around a bit... I’m on my smart phone right now. If you have Facebook, you can Messengers me. Otherwise, look for a second reply by this evening or tomorrow.
@Cory Gill Totally different valve bodies on the aluminum rims... they do not have external hoses, so they would not work in this application. This is primarily why those rims could not be modified for the FMTV. It's too bad, really... they are wonderful rims!
This one is being very stubborn. It looks brand new, but still will not hold air. I am ordering a replacement diaphragm as soon as I can find a source. An update to the description in is order when I find that source.
This was interesting, but how are you doing today? Any new bumps on the head or injuries from using the wifes toothbrush, lol. Greasing is always great in areas that end up with a lot of moisture from open air.
The tooth brush is actually my spare, AA powered one. I have a recharge that I use daily. LOL! In this case, the grease is to help seal up the diaphragm... but I think it is beyond it's usefulness, and I need a new one.

Thanks for the effort with the videos. You inspire me to do more.
That is music to my ears! Be inspired and don't give up... I have learned so much from each hurdle that I've faced. Keep on it!
Nice work! Hope you get some good parts and are able to get it back into working order soon.
I tried one last trick today... it is still a no-go. But I think I can get new diaphragms installed it will be good to go.

Yes, that is the right part number... confirmed it against my unit.
Thank you
I think I found one for a reasonable price
I will let you know
Will the ctis parts off the aluminium wheels work inside the lmtv ctis parts? I bet the innards are the same.
Fastidious Restomods nope... not the same. Close, but apparently a whole new upgrade. I wish, for sure! Then I’d have several spares. 🤩

thanks
My wheel valves on my trailer were filled with corrosion- I cleaned them up.....and they still leak :-(
