I agree that the image they slipped during an ATV some time ago like matches up with the Sabre Raven tag. I asked CIG about the image the day of, and Devs were kinda taken aback, like, we weren't supposed to see it. They did indicate that it was likely not the Eclipse, though. I think what Ben was referring to was likely the Aegis Eclipse.
The US Navy's Electronic Warfare rating's mascot is a crow/raven. I could see the Raven as a directed energy jammer like the real world EA-6B Prowler, jamming sensors/comms, depleting shields of large targets or possibly even being a force defense multiplier popping chaff to confuse the radar cross-section of sensor suites. Something I'd like to see is a misdirection e-war boat that can mimic an electronic signature of a larger, more valuable target, in the hopes the actual high value target sneaks past a military force. It's all fun and games until someone gets close enough to actually look at your and see you're not the high value target they thought you were.
Considering its shape and design I am more inclined to think of it as being more like the Sabre "Ghost" in the same way the Hornet has a "Ghost" variant.
I agree. Totally guessing...I would guess an ewar ship would need a second seat for a dedicated operator. But would that make it too big? It would be great to have an ultra-stealth ship...the base Sabre is (currently, until they nerf it) pretty stealthy. It may upset an current balancing, but maybe they would put less powerful "low signature" engines and weapons to make it fit in with current lore/game balance.
Untrue. Constituent materials and shaping techniques are far more important than size in terms of RCS reductions. The B-1 Lancer a 44.5m long 24m (swept wing configuration) wide strategic bomber has an estimated RCS of 0.75-1.00 square meters. Considering the Star Citizen timeline centuries in the future, more advanced VLO technology would've evolved and matured e.g. plasma stealth, Negative Index Metamaterial, broadband radar evasion materials. Even now the French Rafaele has active radar cancellation exploiting antennas emitting electromagnetic waves half a wavelength out of phase with the reflected radar signal thus effectively reducing its intensity. Now because aircraft have sensors to detect the EM picture around them, it could be explained that in a highly futuristic setting onboard ship computers would've advanced far enough to correlate the direction of radar emissions to the location it is contacting the aircraft, different areas of which would produce individual reflections with their own often unique amplitude and phase and proceed to emit EM energy at the appropriate wavelength(s).
With the Diamond shaped wings, which would make more angular design points similar to the IRL F-22 Raptor and the name Raven, it seems obvious that this will be a stealth focused ship...possibly an e-war/stealth/scout infiltrator to work along side the other Sabre variants. It would fit perfectly in the Aegis line-up, much like the stealth/scout version for Anvil, the Hornet Ghost.
The Raven as the EW version of the Saber makes sense but you can make it better and specialized. It can be a Wild Weasel specializing in teasing ago from radar guided weapons and killing their source with HARM missiles.
I world guess that the image would be the saber raven ( the saber with gladiator wings one). The eclipse could be the stealth tali going by the name. Surprisingly we don't have any stealth bombers in the game at this point so wouldn't be surprised if the eclipse is that.
I would love to see a Sabre variant that would function like the modern Aegis version of the Anvil Gladiator. So a stealthy dive bomber with a larger bomb bay for small torpedoes like the ones carried by the Gladiator. :)
I kind of wonder if the Sabre Raven is a "super sabre" in that it adds another seat, but also adds an EWAR suite. Basically the same weapon loadout, but with some of the Hornet Tracker's goodies added on.
If it's some kind of Saber variant or kit, my guess is stealth; having a stealthier version of an already low-profile ship is right up CIG's alley. And since stealth is still untested by the masses, they can continue to ride the hype for as long as possible.
I think it will be a more stealthy, as unlike the Hornet Ghosst, the current Sabre's stealth is primarily due to its core design and shape rather than scanner absorbing armor. In addition, although it's wild speculation, it could be a data running variant (and a reference to Game of Thrones/Song of Fire and Ice, "Dark wings, dark words." ;)) On the other hand, I do think your E-War variant is a very plausible theory as well. :)
It's been a long time since CIG has done variants, so my guess it will be more akin to the Masters of Flight series versus a whole new ship like a Hornet Ghost or Cutlass Red.
the Sabre is already a bit of a mini bomber as it is, sporting 2x S4 pylon hardpoints; which is larger and provides more diverse options than any other ship of its size except the Gladiator. beyond that, you have to move up to the Retaliator, Constellation, Freelancer, or Harbinger to get a bigger payload, with the Cutlass Black having the same pylon points. while i would like a Ghost-like Sabre with some manner of stealth armor to diffuse scans (also like the Mustang Delta), i feel it may loose some potency if its hardpoints and engines are reduced. cutting its speed would make it pretty darn slow, and shrinking its guns would give it a hard time getting kills compared to its rivals. and given that its more reliant on its shields than a sturdily constructed body, it would be almost completely reliant on its stealth for survival. for those reasons i would much prefer it get stealth armor than reduced components, since it already has low emission engines and a small profile, as well as retractable guns. just for the fire power, i would like to see a "super sabre" with a turret on the back since even the F7C Hornet can outdo the Sabre in sheer firepower with an all fixed load out with the flashfire mount, but anything to build on top of the ship would increase its cross section and thus hamper its stealth. and that would, to an extent, defeat the purpose of the ship, and make it a bit of a samey fighter. so i think i have to agree that such a ship is not in the cards. though maaaaaaybe adding a couple extra hardpoints into or onto the body somehow? still doubtful
I wonder what happend to the Eclipse... I was so exited for it. So 3 more fighter Ships are missing. Banu Defender - that Xian Nox thing? and the Raven? .... i really hoped to see the Eclipse. But maybe the Sabre Raven was the Sabre Eclipse. And did just get a rename cause they wanted the Name "Eclipse" to be free for some point in the Future.
What if it's a Sabre with no missiles but instead a single size 9 torpedo, that would make it the most versatile fighter - bomber in the game. Just imagine launching the payload and sticking around the battlefield with a fully armed Sabre, I'd melt any other fighter for that.
Nah, it's not Anvil enough. The front of the ship is Nearly the same as the Sabre, except the intakes, here, I'll show ya on this Imgur Link: i.imgur.com/TlfEiWK.png
I still wonder if Sabre is a new manufacturer. Every ship on that list had its full name, manufacturer and model and even variant. It doesn't make sense to me that the Sabre Raven was the only one to drop its manufacturer. So maybe Sabre is a new manufacturer.
And I am well aware of that, having owned one in the past. Read my comment again and look at where I'm coming from. Every other ship including the Cutlass Black has a full manufacturer and model name, and then we're left with the Sabre Raven. Whilst it's possibly and probable it's just a Sabre variant, I believe it could be a new ship altogether.
i think its going to be like a carrier. basically take messages and transport them from one company to another. this will greatly reduce communication barriers, misunderstandings and primarily, put everyone on the same page.
they said there wouldn't be variant on the original sabre. i would not like if they swapped there announcement. there were a q&a question i remember where they said there wouldnt be one...
I don't ever remember that being the case tho' I didn't follow its development, I do remember it being described as hit and run type rapid responder... The Caterpillar is still described as the evil twin of the Freelancer so it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. I learned from Freelancer that a lot of ship descriptions are sales pitch in nature and very very different in "reality".
Super solution: A super saber, NOT a two-seater. The game needs a great protection ship. the Vanguard is a fail because it can't fly well. Simply up the shields, give it stealth armor, increase one set of the weapons, bump the price good to make it harder to get, and it will be the most fun ship in the game, not to mention a huge money maker. Guarenteed. But in all honesty, I would be surprised if CIG was smart enough to do it. they have disappointed us too many times. We deserve a good break for a change!
It's prob some kind of black project version of the typical Sabre, only deadlier/stealthier - Like how the F7A is to the standard run-of-the-mill hornet. Probably Aegis's attempt to recuperate their losses after losing the space superiority fighter contract to Anvil
That could be it. The Saber was originally supposed to compete with the F8 Lightning, so maybe the Saber Raven is the "real" military version of the ship.
get tired of seeing an interesting picture for your video, then never seeing it in your video, only pointless flying. Like your chart video could be you showing the chart while talking about it.
Its a distraction a faint no more lame fighters it a (cue old man Zen Voice) flim flam. It's like Yolande of Valois cry of "Les boudoirs sont des biscuits secs et croquants, de forme allongée, et saupoudrés de sucre cristallisé." in 1472 Savoy it is the same @#$% thing! Stay woke people.
I really wish CIG would stop basing the Game so much on U.S. view... now, I know it sounds dumb but I think it's a bit dangerous for a international Game with international Playerbase in a fictional future to pretty much show the U.S. as Masterrace, refer to most (all?) Military-Grade Ships based on U.S. namesake, place U.S. Flags on captial Ships and depict the big dictator as "Ivan (The Terrible) Messer (Schmitt)" which was thankfully disposed of. They already caused a huge shitstorm when they were raising money for U.S. Veterans with some sale because the actions of U.S. Military are not viewed as heroic outside the U.S. in some cases at least. What I want to say is: either keep this stuff out of the Game or on a very low level or even it out across different Nations.

Big Dave76 That is just a way to keep the crowed warm and keep them curious 😎👍 Everything hapens with a reason, citizen 😉
Lieutenant General Falcon NL Lol are you saying Chris is a master at 4D chess?
asked CIG how?
Just messaged ship devs across a few platforms: spectrum, RSI forums. Got some responses. Nothing super cool.
Josh Friedman 😎

I suspect what Youngblood speculated when he referenced the EF-111 Raven to be in line with CIG's naming conventions. An EWAR ship would make sense.
Considering its shape and design I am more inclined to think of it as being more like the Sabre "Ghost" in the same way the Hornet has a "Ghost" variant.
Can't go bigger. Stealth cross-section has to be small. - the name Raven implies a blacked out ewar or ultra-stealth ship.
suedeslounge Yup. It's a variant. No doubt about it. The cockpit similarity is a dead give away to me
I agree. Totally guessing...I would guess an ewar ship would need a second seat for a dedicated operator. But would that make it too big? The Aegis Eclipse? xD
Probably right STL, I think this will be the Spark Vark again. E-warfare ship without guns, but with huge speed to get out..
Hello STLYoungblood! Good and informative video like always.
I kind of wonder if the Sabre Raven is a "super sabre" in that it adds another seat, but also adds an EWAR suite. Basically the same weapon loadout, but with some of the Hornet Tracker's goodies added on.
The Super Saber could also be an E-war variant, with the second pilot controlling the E-war part.
Love my Sabre. I would love to see a Super Sabre but I agree, it will probably be an E-Warfare ship.

anyone know why I can't get the T flight hotas to work on SC? I plug it in and no response

The Tally's already a stealth bomber, so that's already there. I'm thinking the Raven's a more stealthy stealth fighter.
Thank you

You were right!
If your going to do one of these for the Banu Defender, get it out quick before the official reveal on Friday. :-)
can you tell me what ship and load out you are flying in this video..?
I wonder what happend to the Eclipse... I was so exited for it. So 3 more fighter Ships are missing. Banu Defender - that Xian Nox thing? and the Raven? .... i really hoped to see the Eclipse. That ship in the thumbnail looks more like the Anvil Hurricane
Nah, it's not Anvil enough. The front of the ship is Nearly the same as the Sabre, except the intakes, here, I'll show ya on this Imgur Link: i.imgur.com/TlfEiWK.png

i think its still Aegis xD
It might be, but it might not be.
No, Sabre's from Aegis Dynamics.

Sabre ... Sabre Comet ... Sabre Raven and it doesn't have an dates so it would likely be the same again with a skin job and different weapon loadout.
What are some spy/assasin ship plzz!!?
It kinda looks like "the defiant" from DS9
You're right.
A stealth Sabre will pike my interest, I CCU'd my Ghost for the Super Hornet, I miss sneaking 'round Yella in it.
Ken Oath The Saber was supposed to be stealth on its own :/
I don't ever remember that being the case tho' I didn't follow its development, I do remember it being described as hit and run type rapid responder... Reminds me of the YF-23 Black Widow
i think its gonna be a nuke carrier. stealthy and deadly
plus it already looks like a b2
It looks very stealthy though so mayby is a variant which is more stealthy than the sabre
even stealthier sabre with 4 size 4s :)
ScYph
And better shields but stealth armor.
get tired of seeing an interesting picture for your video, then never seeing it in your video, only pointless flying.
Like your chart video could be you showing the chart while talking about it.
army use's air recon drons called Raven so maybe that.
scout
It could be an EW ship. It makes the most sense. If they ever make it.
i think raven equals scav ship.
the air force doesn't have ships
first!

yeah man as you said stealth e-war
