if you gonna do a should you buy on ironclad, i would love to hae a comparison with the liberator, they seem close in purpose
upped to 24 missiles in the next patch
Only if the sale lasts that long. Otherwise it simply will be forgotten.
Yay twice as many useless missiles. That changes everything!
@@chrishoppner150lol exactly. Missiles are broken
@@chrishoppner150missiles will become much more dangerous when 4.0 comes out and the server performance goes way up
@@zacharypump5910 anyone who says this doesn't know how to use missiles. my missiles hit every time.
There was an update that I saw after recording and uploading but I have yet to confirm, so if so please add a reply, but I heard that this was going to get 24 size 3 missiles, which would end up matching the Talon. I think the should you buy portion of this just as a comparison to other fighters still stands up regardless, however, if you're now comparing a fighter sized missile boat, I think the Firebird now makes more sense than the Shrike as the better bet. Please keep that in mind as you make your decision but let's get confirmation first.
Can confirm Spectrum post by Zyloh-CIG. Two updates to the Firebird incoming:
- The Firebird's missile count has doubled from 12 to 24
- The Firebird's signature reduction has been corrected (increased from 20% to 40%)
@@stoneguard
I can confirm this confirmation.
@@SpaceDad42 I confirm also, but Zyloh only said that the missile count is going up to 24 (and the signature reduction). He did not say it would be 24 size 3's. Mind you, 24 rattlers would be sick...
Yep, it's there. Spectrum -> Announcements -> Aegis Firebird and Retaliator Updates
It’s in the CIG announcements from Friday, 24 missiles, along with the retailiator gun size buff
I have original Saber Raven that I bought for 5$ back in a day when Optane memory thing was going on. And ppl who didn't know what that " code is" just sold it on e-bay for around 5-10$. It's insane how rare it is now.
The bump up to 24 S3 missiles was per Zyloh’s response post in spectrum. He said that the update would come with the next incremental patch. Nice vid as always - thx!
People also forget the tana is a missile fighter. 20x s2 stock. Also with 6x s2 guns.
Yeah but the Tana is hot garbage in every category
@rahlap2449 haha it's not horrible in MM. I've been doing some hrt missions in it. Granted it's not great any higher really haha
They forget because missiles are useless. And every time they get fixed, the PvP crowd screams until they get nerfed again.
The Firebird is limited simply by missile and scanning/targeting tech and gameplay not being fleshed out yet still.
The standard Sabre with more guns is more for fans of WW2-esque dogfights, but this is more like a modern interceptor.
Good to see you uploading again. Looking forward to a video on the Ironclad.
I'm looking forward to it as well I'm really on the fence about it but i grabbed a CCU just incase
I think it seems to get missed that the Firebird has interceptor tuning. Its boost is incredible and it can dictate the engagement. I think if you have only one fighter type ship you might want to run something gun focused but the Firebird could be a fun option for a different combat experience. It’s a blast to fly
you should try the sneaky approach sometime getting within 5-6 km from your target then letting loose with a full salvo is very satisfying when they go down (as long as the missiles don't bug through the target)
I am just glad I won't be flying "the same ship as everyone else" cause people got monkey brains. 😁
@@wildcard12983
That's something that just never seemed to make sense to me with guns, like on the base Sabre.
You CAN cheese it with massdrivers, but it is just slow and boring.
So it’s like a Buccaneer but with half the guns?
You are the first content creator I've seen to accurately target this as a fire support craft. With 12 missiles and the 20% signature reduction it would fill that role quite nicely. At least for priority target elimination. Going to 24 missiles and 40% reduction might be a bit much. If CIG intend this for priority target, shadow take-downs, I can see it being pulled back on one of those at some point. If they intend it to be a harasser craft, lobbing 4 batches of 6 size 3 missiles from the shadows, lets hope scanning game play can help see them lurking once it gets here.
I don't see how 24 missiles and 40% sig reduction is "a bit much".
It would balance it out against the Shrike, which I haven't heard once yet to be OP.
The Shrike is a lot more maneuverable and I think even a tiny bit more tanky, while the Firebird is faster and has bigger guns, and is possibly a tiny bit stealthier, but that should make no practical difference because there is a lot more than the pretty meaningless signature reduction that goes into it, despite what the video author claims, such as components, heat management, power management, system management and even viewing angle.
But if spviewer is correct, the Shrike needs a fuel buff.
CIG did comment in Spectrum saying after hearing feedback from backers, the Firebird would be having the missile count doubled from 12 to 24. That is a significant jump, though it falls more in line with the 2 Talon variants you also compared the Sabre and Sabre Firebird to.
one point that is often forgoten would be the "rarity" of the ship or it part. the Talon are "alien" ship, they should cost more to repair than standard fighter, or so i think
But the bird chassis has experimental components I think? So it should be somewhere up there too.
Thanks STL for your thoughts!
Great to hear from you again. I for one am sticking with the old sabre!
Not surprised they made a variation of Raven. I have the Raven and I felt like due to its rarity that it would make players head hunt them over other targets just to be a troll so kinda glad they did this. I also like the fact they are making missile variat of ships tho with this ship going from 12 to 24, I'm interested to see how that works visually on the body. I hope the gladiator gets some love soon bc it needs!
this is the best take on this ship i have seen most of the videos on this look at it purely from a solo pvp and solo bounties stand point and not the squad based stand point that CIG is pushing right now. the sneakiness of the ship is underestimated as well being able to get within 5 km of your NPC bounties with the right weapons loadout is amazing and with the missiles be upped to 24 next patch it makes extended fights with it not so unbearable. I truly believe that every ship has a good use in the verse it just take the pilot wanting to learn to play to the strengths and understanding the weaknesses of the given ship thank you for the analytical break down of the ship and the comparisons to it competitors
Except about half of it is wrong.
Gladiator is a classic WW2 dive bomber designed originally to attack multi crew sized ships. I get the feeling the Firebird is designed for small to medium sized fighters. This is a problem because missiles historically are evaded easily by medium and small fighters. It’s a fun ship to fly however. It’s fast and surprisingly agile. If you got the bucks and like to experience the usually short lived and OP buff to missiles, I would buy it, especially if the missile count is 24.
I rented the firebird during Invictus and immediately bought it. It’s one of the most fun ships to fly, especially with dual sticks. It’ll never run ERTs by itself, but I just love flying it.
With 24 s3 missiles hitting ERTs is possible not easy though. A hit&run strategy maybe. I took down an 890 jump with 20 s3 and appr 200 s7 bullets from an Inferno.
@@sospeti The update they announced that doubles the missiles will certainly make the Firebird more viable. Best way to handle an ERT with it would probably be to hit and run. Rush in, get that aggro, rush out, wait for them to go to nav mode to chase you so those shields go down. It’ll be possible, but require much more finesse.
I think it's the speed and depends on the pilot.
I have also discovered that I have the most fun flying really fast ships.
@@j.d.4697 Same. Ships with speed are so fun. Bigger, slower ships have more use, but they handle like a brick, especially in atmo.
@@KesinX
But handling is agility, I am specifically talking about speed.
I don't want to go speed and nothing else like the Herald though.
Great video. I'm using the Tali are my main shop at the moment, loving it even though I'm solo. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the Firebird, now we need your Ironclad video ASAP 😅
These should you buy videos are by far my favorite SC content! Great job every time. Hoping to try out org play soon!
thoughts on how the Reliant Tana compares to these other missile boats?
The Firebird was increased to 24 missiles, not 12, and its stealth was increased from 20 to 40%
Ultimately the Talon Shrike is a light missile oriented fighter and the Sabre Firebird is a medium missile oriented fighter. I don't really see another comparison to add to this list beyond massive the Tana (which I think is in a pretty bad place).
Master modes are a big factor in this as they've been introduced without many major supporting systems (flight surfaces for example) and a number of ships have flight characteristics under MM that don't really make sense. An easy example of this being the Interceptor profile that has been applied to the Firebird.
A part of me is tempted by the Firebird but I've not seen anything to push me over that last bump.
Out of curiosity what are your thoughts on the Sabre platform Vs the new Hornet Mk.II? I've not flown either but I immensely enjoyed the Hornet Mk.I Ghost. I'm debating picking up the new Mk.II or perhaps the Sabre before Invictus ends.
When it comes to sheer firepower in this patch focusing on missiles the Ares Inferno wins IMHO. Twenty s3 + an op s7 gatling. But the buffed Firebird with 24 missiles and improved stealth will be amazing I think. I pulled the trigger TBH.
Nobody ever mentions the Ares missiles when in actuality they are pretty crazy.
I kinda like the idea of a barrage bomber but I’m not sure how I feel about the ships design. Wish the f8c had a variant
The canopy is arguably best in game. No struts, etc. I love the raven, wish I had one. I have the AMD ship instead.:(. That said. They HAVE to make the missiles worth while, otherwise..... The 24s3 missiles is great. I wouldn't mind if it had 2 size 4 guns instead of s3. All in all, I love how it flies, therefore I'll get it.
Use to have a Raven (I sold it). But im so glad the firebird is becoming a thing for multiple reason...
1. The Raven sucks, seriously, lackluster weapon size, emp basically uselss and everyone else will run bigger ships with more fire power so a single hit can almost completely wipe you and flying the raven is like david vs goliath fight. (even if the missles are also less strong I see them much better than the emp option)
2. Ravens rarity means if someone finds you have one you will be dead in sight, do they hate you for it? or just want to troll you who knows but I get shot a lot more when I was in the raven than other ships.
3. No Fuel, this ship can barely make it, just to beable to jump long distance you need to throw on the most efficient drive resulting in travel times of upwards of 10 minutes and it sucks
4. jumping systems is probs gonna make the raven worse too, both fuel costs to get to jump gate and then after jump to get where you need. People wee see you at ajump point and try to hunt you down after im calling it...
5. Now stats wise the firebird is essentially identical for these issues. but guess what, one of these is a super exclusive ship that codes sell for $1000+, the other one is aquirable in game or a plaege i think is like $170, if you want to fly a ship with this design, the firebird is just more reasonable to use in every way except the feel of exclusivity the raven has.
love the content man everytime I hear about new ships in starfield i go to your yt page
Thanks Youngblood!
Corsair: Leave size 5 canon )M7As), bit putting ballistics on S4 adds a mice punch. F7C Mk2 is hood. Taurus tractor usefull to load cargo. Syndrome adds some extra missiles 52 v 24 on other variants. Inferno and C3/M2 is great 2 people combo bit rep l acing Ares with Corsair or Connie work.
I don’t think it is really fair to compare the Talon to the Firebird. The Sabre series of fighters is supposed to compete against the likes of a Hornet whereas the Talon would compete more against the Arrow.
So what they’ll do in future if they have another missile ship they want to sell is nerf both the Firebird and Shrike, to make the shiny new thing seem more valuable. So buyer beware: CIG does not care about past money-only future money.
Remember the fury doesnt have a nav mode speed with MM currently. Its top speed is the same as its boosted scm speed.
Lol really?
So NAV mode is powered by the QD??
@j.d.4697 it'll swap to nav but speeda are the same as scm and you drop shields and guns. It's crap.
Firebird seems more of a go and take out that ground artillery or that one big ship and then be a pest while other ships clean up type of ship. Like I baby eclipse.
Yes, everyone should own one to keep the project alive. Lets buy !!!
Honestly, I find the Firebird boring and uninspired, weither it has 12, 24 or 60 Missiles.
It just doesn't feel like you're really getting any sort of good gameplay out of it, at the best of days (patches) you might have a ship using FOTM weapons.
But let's assume we're on another Missile FOTM patch, would it REALLY make the Firebird good?
It has more missiles than most others, but they aren't exclusive to it and it doesn't have the durability to tank multiple hits.
Having strong missiles would also negate some of the advantage it has as a fighter over many ships like the Cutlass, Constellation and so on, if they can hit it with missiles just as well.
And even many non-dedicated missile-fighters still cary some missiles.
*Your stats are wrong.*
If you used spviewer which lets you place them on top of each other you would have seen the Firebird and the base Sabre are pretty much equal.
Also your flight time conclusion makes no sense cause you ignored the fact that different ships and thrusters use different amounts of fuel.
Also, spviewer contradicts other sources about the hull HP but if I had to guess from personal experience, I would go with the 15k shown on spviewer.
Thanks STLyb!
I fear the Ironclad ccu is going to go in and out of my buyback.
SABEN?? ooo a Raven/Sabre Hybrid? AKA Raven chasis, but 4 guns, SOLD. You saw it here first guys. STL---SABEN.
We need missile countering game play more like the expanse, a dedicated person playing a mini game “jamming” the missile opposed to 1 clicking a countermeasure button
agreed
I'm enjoying the Firebird, it is an absolute rat. I've been diving on High Value targets trying to switch into nav mode. In a dogfight, it sucks, but as a part of a fleet, one salvo will down most medium ships.
In case you missed the last 20secs of this video: most of you should NOT be buying this ship, it’s terrible TERRIBLE value for the money. 90% of us aren’t drowning in ships and need a general purpose PVE combat ship that “works”. There are far cheaper ships that do this better than the firebird and similarly priced ships that do this MUCH better than the firebird. Missiles are buggy and barely functional. There’s a niche PvP role for the firebird in the “current meta” but that’s not what most people are doing in star citizen
Let's face it the Firebird was added to appease those who never bought an expensive SSD to get the Raven or paid expensive grey market prices. Great marketing strategy by CIG to sell an average at best ship to those who desperately wanted a Raven.
Firebird is getting 24 missiles in next .1 patch.
I think the firebird needs one more gun…
this would be interesting to see if they threw a nose turret on it but at the same time i like the fact that the ship is not good for extended dog fights makes me have to be a better pilot and fly more evasive and make the enemy play into my hands but like i said it would be interesting to see how that would work
Nah. Missiles suck and 2 size 3's for $180 LOL!!!!!
Nah indeed..
Even with 1000 missiles if they always miss why even bother?
Missiles speeds nerfed right after the sale ends LOL
This thing was a big letdown IMO
Why? It looks, sounds, and flys amazingly!
i can understand this take from the stand point of wanting the ship to have a better gimmick i was hope for it to be a QED ship myself
Should you by the Temu Raven? No.
Sales was bad... Cig buff the firebird
People are still buying ships?
No.
Wallet closed.
No
TLDR: No!
FireBird VS Scorpious
comparing a 10 year old gladiator that never seen a rework to a brand new firebird ......
Hi, NO. bye
If you want a missile boat, just get an andromeda. Best part - you won't bother wasting time with missiles since you have 4 size 5 hardpoints, tons of armor and more shields than this quick-flipped, even-quicker-rejected ship.
short answer NOOOOOO
WILL IF FIT IN A POLARIS?!?!
