I come out of the competition slalom waterski world where a new, approved ski boat is $150,000.00 and to remain competitive, you need to get a new boat every couple of years. A ski with boots and a bag is about $3,000.00. Gloves are $100.00 and depending on how hard you train, they can last a couple weeks. A towrope is $150.00, so is a handle. Add another $250.00 for a ski vest. This doesn't include gas, maintenance, a tow vehicle, storage, insurance, and on and on. Many of the top-level skiers live on private lakes in multi-million-dollar homes. The cost to be competitive on a national level is absolutely insane whereas Ben Johns could wipe the floor with just about anyone reading this with a homemade paddle made out of wood scraps and wearing his dress clothes and shoes!

Joey...you make the video with your narration! Love the tennis is snobby comment! I went into pickleball after they shut the gyms down where I was playing racquetball. For those like myself who just want to be "recreational" players pickleball is great! Of course I want to elevate my game, so I love playing against really good players...but the sport is fantastic! I LOVE PICKLEBALL! Looking good in those videos Joey!

The fun per dollar ratio is also much higher in pickleball. Many more hours of quality play for much less money. If people happen to play 4-6 tournaments a year that is like 4-6 vacations included in the pickleball, bonus! No doubt pickleball is mostly free or perhaps a $20-50 a month membership at a nice club. Very economical. My kids play high school lacrosse and it costs $2000 a year when you consider equipment, tournament fees, coaching and practice, not counting away tourneys in hotels.

Love your videos, but the math, no sure where $50 x12 is $1100 but I get the idea you are going for. Keep the great content coming.

Your cost are way off. I play pickleball at our church for free. I have two paddles and 6 balls total cost on amazon 60 dollars. I play at public course cost 0. Total cost for a year of pickle ball 60 dollars. Thanks for the video. Oh I live in Augusta and the cost to play golf is beyond my pay grade. And I am a retired Army officer.

If you paid $60 for 2 paddles and 6 balls you bought absolute junk. Joey was referring to buying paddles actually worth playing with.

      $750 - $2250 / year with these assumptions
      ...
      5x/week (10 hours per week)
      Playing 50 weeks / yr
      "Local" play only
      Basic gear and transportation
      No tournaments
      ...
      Shoes and paddles and balls:
      $1 - $2 per hour combined.
So that alone is $500 - $1,000 per year, depending on if you play 2 hours a week or 20.
      ...
      Local transportation:
      IRS mileage rate $0.56
      ~$250-$1250/year
(Based on 10-50 miles / week)

I'm guessing you eat at Denny's on Twofer Tuesdays also.. That is what is great about this game, you can start at any financial level you want and improve quality and value as you feel necessary. Get started and bring friends with you.
