    Lightly dusting your molds with cornstarch before adding clay helps with removal. Also, tip the mold upside down when removing clay. If all else fails, let the clay dry in the mold so it has time to shrink and makes removal much easier.

      I was wondering why everyone tries to take it out wet …if maybe there was some reason you can’t get it out or something?-cuz it seems obvious that letting it dry would be easier 🤔

      @@paulieabeles2149 flat dried pieces will not work well on curved surfaces like round ornaments. Plus even on flat surfaces, one may want to curve the molded piece, say from a straight line to a half circle...

      @@paulieabeles2149Hi, I use air dry clay quite often, and I get the best results by rubbing cornflour (or corn starch) into the mould first before pushing in the clay. The cornflour makes it easy to remove the clay mouldings from the moulds, and it's best to remove the clay while it's wet, not dry, because then you can apply your clay moulding to any surface, even if it's slightly uneven. Whereas, if you wait for the clay to dry, it's harder to remove it from the mould and, unless it's completely flat on the top, it's impossible to glue it down onto your surface without gaps appearing. I hope this helps you with your craft projects. ❤

    I want to give a tip that I have just discovered on getting molded pieces to easily come out intact. I was ready to give up b/c the tiny pieces were not coming out or breaking off. I realized that the molds are heatproof and initially tried putting a batch in my toaster oven @ 300 for 30 minutes. They dropped out perfectly and they were still pliable enough to fit on a curved surface. I then did another batch @250 for 30 minutes and that came out easily but was a bit easier to apply on a curved surface. Hope this helps.

      Yes, that's a great tip, especially because it's a lot safer to put your expensive silicone molds in the freezer than in the oven (which is something I would never want to do 😅!!) I don't know how much silicone molds cost where you are, but here in Melbourne, Australia, the Prima molds are $37 - $50, the IOD molds are $42 and the La Blanche molds all cost $45 each.

I've tried several different brands of air dry clay and they always seem to crack as they dry. I've ordered some DAS air dry clay but was hoping for some advice on the drying part. • @IvetaZiedina
      @IvetaZiedina  3 года назад +1

      Hi Lisa!
      That is very normal for air drying clay. As far as I understand it has more to do with the heat/humidity combo. I don’t get that issue too often I think because it’s very humid here, and clay takes a long time to dry all the way. If cracks are an issue you could use wall crack filler to fill them in once clay is dry.

    Another video shows that a silicone/acrylic white caulk works very well for the very thin molds.

    Can we use homemade air dry clay made from corn starch

    • @IvetaZiedina
      @IvetaZiedina  4 года назад

      Yes, of course, it might just be a little bit stickier or shrink a little bit more, I know that happened to me once with home made clay but it’s all just a matter of experimenting and finding a way to work around it ☺️

    Why don’t you use cornstarch to put in your moulds?

    Can you glue it to an item before the clay is dry?

    • @cassfonnesbeck8057
      @cassfonnesbeck8057 2 года назад +1

      Yes! It's necessary in fact. Glue them down wet. I created some molds and just let them dry. They all broke when I tried to apply them to a surface. Boo hoo!

    I find my air dry clay dries out fast if you try to work it like you do. It is very soft to begin with. I have been struggling to get it out of my molds without it cracking and breaking as it seems to dry realy fast.

    I’m making a scale sheet and accidentally bought air dry clay.. I need to sculpt my scales wait for it to dry and then I would pour plaster over it. It’s a big project like it’s a 5ft sheet… molding for plaster? Is air dry clay even ideal for this ? I’ve read it cracks, it’s hard to work with? And I cannot for the life of me figure out if air dry clay is Compatible with plaster? They say I need Sulfur free clay or oil based clay and somtimes it even says all types of clay work. But every ones molding a little tiny animal the size of a quarter . Someone please help

    As you may already know, in the stamping/heat embossing community we use an "anti-static powder bag" (cornstarch or talc in a piece of fabric) and tap/rub it over cardstock to remove any static, so that the embossing powder only sticks to the ink (hopefully) and not everywhere else before melting. This would be my choice for getting a super light dusting into these molds.

    Omg I’ve just tried to put iod clay in mould it’s an absolute disaster😱.The clay is so soft it’s like trying to remove icing paste. I’m so disappointed. I’ve just stuck it in the freezer as I’ve seen some people say they do it when they have put the clay in the mould. 😢😢

      I know this is coming to you 11 months too late but if you know that your clay is too soft you can take however much you want to use and sandwich in between 2 sheets of paper and put a book or something heavy-ish on top for a bit and it helps pull out the extra oils and moisture and firm it up.
