This needs to be a series on the Discovery channel ✌
YES! THIS 👆
Like a "3 Sheets" for gaming... I like it.
Same
I'm not sure if we have the discovery channel here in Australia🤔. Anyway, I AGREE, YOU NEED TO BE ON TELEVISION🙏🏻😎
@@MetalJesusRockshey I hate to do this but if you get a chance check this out this is an extremely rare PS1 game and it's even more rare than you would think it's a retail copy not a promo copy! ruclips.net/video/Xez1g9iotJ0/видео.html
❤ MJR’s vacation videos. Makes me feel like I’m watching the Travel Channel for Retro Gamers.
Love that!
Fr, always a blast to watch man. Rock on 🤘
@@MetalJesusRocks I sense a new idea! You should do a travel/retro-game series! haha :D
If you come up to Canada your dollar will go a lot farther ;)
These travel and road trip videos are just the best. Good balance of video games, travel stuff and some unique tips.
I would legitimately watch a travel show that’s like this specifically with our savior metal Jesus
I really think he could pitch a show on a travel oriented channel and it would get picked up
The wild chickens are everywhere like that on all the islands. When hurricane Iniki came through in '92 all the chicken coops on all the islands were destroyed. The chickens all got out, went feral, and now are everywhere. Since there are no natural predators its now crazy chicken world. Especially up on the northern most islands like Kauai.
That is kind of hilarious, not the hurricane part, but the aftermath.
Don't tell Colonel Saunders.
@@Zooumberg I mean, it's not a bad thing to have take out running all over the place or anything xD
@@pdraggy that'll be the genetic experimentation they had years ago to have four legged chickens so everybody could have one at the dinner table. It was a success, they bred four legged chickens. The trouble was, they were so fast no one could catch them.
Just keep those 11 secret herbs and spices on you!
RETROMAX!!!!!!! I KNOW THIS GUY !!!!!!! When i was stationed in hawaii 6 years ago. i went to him alot to buy old video games. Glad he is doing well. On my last weekend i visited him and he gave me Kickle Cubicle complete in box NES
These travel vlogs/pick-ups vids are some of my fav to watch, especially for the beautiful sights.
Thanks for showing off the Oahu retro gaming scene. I live on Oahu and recognize almost every place from this video. At 00:49 in the video you show some games from the PearlRidge mall Book Off, that Sega CD game on the right side of the shelf “Who Shot Johnny Rock” is the same exact copy I sold them a while back. I’m surprised no one has bought it yet. Wow, my old game is famous now!
Watching Jason walk through an arcade like a Sasquatch, priceless… 😂😉
I’d say more like a big kid
These videos are a journey, not just about showing the games. Awesome
Glad you like them!
@@MetalJesusRocks absolutely love them. These and the big box PC game ones are my favs 😇 keep rocking!
Glad you made it over to visit! This was a trip to watch because I'm originally from the Seattle area but now call Hawaii home. And thanks for showcasing RetroMax, he definitely has the best selection of retro games on the island!
Didn't know you were in Hawaii- definitely enjoy your vids too.
Im in Hawaii, planning on moving to seattle, lol
When i was stationed in hawaii 6 years ago. i went to retromax alot to buy old video games. Glad he is doing well. On my last weekend i visited him and he gave me Kickle Cubicle complete in box NES
Me too!
12:05 Jason, did you notice one of the military officers behind you had picked Possessed *Seven Churches* ? Never thought I would see the day that a currently serving military officer would be buying one one of the most classic, influential death/thrash metal albums of the mid 80's and all time. Especially in a place like Hawaii haha.
PS: The guitar player of that band Larry Lalonde went to join Primus shortly after that band. The vocalist is also wheelchair bound and still doing amazingly well.
Really?!?! That's cool.
That’s me haha, it was an instant purchase when I saw it. I was surprised to find a copy there, influential and classic record. Wish they had a bigger Metal selection!
I am bald
What a video with an amazing commentary. Thanks for taking us on the trip with you, dude 🤘🏾
Oh man those Book-Off stores looked really awesome, so well-stocked with games! Tell them they are welcome to expand into Europe as well, preferably my country, I'd love to have them around. 😁
We used to have a bunch of videogame shops here. Toys N Joys (of course), Jelly's (comics, music, games, etc.), Discount Outlet (block away from Toys N Joys), and more. Most closed because of slower sales, high rent, new business ventures, and in certain cases drug abuse (by the owner). BookOff used to have pretty competitive prices when they were in Shirokiya and Don Quixote, but now they seem to price items at whatever the highest price is on eBay regardless of condition. Toys N Joys has roots from the Swap Meet as well. They grew from there and had two stores, one in Kaimuki, and the other in Aiea. Yeah....I really miss them.
Damn I didn’t know toys n joys had origins from the swap meet.. I miss the spot across circuit city under Tony Roma’s. Those were the days!
I think this could be my favourite ever MJR video. So positive and just awesome to see
Neven been to Hawaii myself but back in 2000's I loved this online store named Toys & Joys in Honolulu. They had almost everything you could ask gaming or anime related specially japanese imports you couldn't even find on Ebay. The owners and employers were really helpful. Sadly they closed their store a couple years ago. Looks you both really enjoyed that trip :) Great video and beatiful place.
That's the place I frequented in the 90's :) funny you should bring it up.
Bought all of my Super Nintendo games from there back in the day. They had the best japanese toy and import game selection. I miss Toys n Joys.
Omg my child hood store. Used to buy all my Power Ranger imports and Naruto gear there 🤙🏽
Fun fact: While the stores have closed now, the family opened up a new business which are a pretty good Vietnamese food restaurants called The Pig and the Lady and Piggy Smalls.
omg i was stationed there in the late 90s and i was thinking about this store, i bought my Final fantasy 6 soundtrack there which i since had autographed. i miss that store and the mall with the monorail between the 2 halves lol
Excellent trip, Metal Jesus. Great filming of Honolulu...
To see Wii U and O.G. Xbox on'Retro Max's table was interesting. These consoles, are sleeper heavyweights. Emphasis on 'heavy' lol
Definitely
I lived in Oahu for 4 years. This brought back a lot of memories. I would love to go back some day!
About Book Off, there are a few in California, but there are also 2 in NYC. One of them opened up in Brooklyn fairly recently and is apparently completely dedicated to anime, manga, and Japanese import items. The Manhattan one is standard.
So glad you uploaded this! Going to Oahu next week and will definitely check out some of the spots you did :) Glad y’all had a good time!!
You should! Have fun
Sounds like you folks had fun. The fact that you found some cool game stores is a huge bonus. Thanks for sharing
Oh dude, I was in Kauai a little over a year ago (first time to Hawaii), and I was shocked to see the wild chickens EVERYWHERE. They were even in the KFC parking lot, which obviously I found hilarious.
Kauai has the most wild chickens of the Hawaiian islands
Again, I love how your travel videos go beyond video games and basically become a travel vlog. Also, thanks for the heads-up about the UV levels. I'm actually headed to Honolulu next month; I'll definitely be keeping an eye on that UV rate.
MJ! You have a knack for narration and you actually have the voice for it. Given you travel a lot, why don’t you open a new channel for it? Besides gaming I mean.
Thanks for the upload
I would do travel and game hunting videos full time...but videos like this are harder to make than they look. Still, it's a complete joy and I'm happy to share them.
So, did you play Test Drive: Unlimited before arriving in Hawaii? Haha. In all serious, these game hunting videos are the best thing about this channel. So many cool locations to potentially visit, and the games you find, if only we had a similar volume down under. Nonetheless, I'm game hunting all around the east side of Australia next month.
Been feeling down all week. Your content is like a warm blanket. Thanks for the pick me up.
I couldn't believe how strong the sun was there - it felt super intense when we visited in late August a few years back. Great video! I miss Hawaii!
Wow, my wife and I visited the Waikiki area for our honeymoon last November and we had such a similar experience to yours! It was fun to see it all again in your video. The only issue we had was the influx of foot traffic that frequents the beach front in Waikiki but that should be expected. Def recommend visiting!
Absolutely love your travel videos, man. 🤜🤛
Can’t wait to enjoy this one!
Thanks a ton!
Wow! I live on Oahu and I knew we had Book-Offs here, but I never knew how awesome they were! Thanks for teaching me something! I wish I had run into you!
I've just started collecting for the PSP again after so many years away and it's just ridiculous how many different games keep cropping up that you didn't know were released!
When you see Metal Jesus walking around other people, you realise just how tall he is. Wow!
He looks even bigger because everyone in Hawaii is short
Man this makes me miss Hawaii even more. I also stayed in Oahu for a week when I went. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome video. We spent Christmas in kaui 5 years ago. It was truly a trip to remember. Best hiking you will ever do. Thank you for this.
I was born and raised in Columbia, SC. I will bet anyone this--Columbia, SC is the HOTTEST place on the earth. Not only are the temperatures get super high, but humidity is often at 100%, every day in the summer. I can completely believe that Greenville (not that much farther north but a tad better than Columbia) felt worse that Hawaii. I've been to other tropical locales and nothing compares to the stagnant heat of SC.
I really enjoy your travel stuff. I would definitely watch a 30 min video just on a travel vlog. :)
Awesome as always. Love your channel and your videos!
As always another awesome video, thank you MJR for sharing your wonderful holiday.
Thanks for taking us to Hawaii with you. Good times.
Metal Jesus has a tremendous talent for travel game finding videos. Wow 😲 Excellent work!
It's so bizarre to see one of your travel videos and go, "Hey--I've been here!" I went to exactly most of those place (minus the game stores lol) back in November of 2019. Beautiful, beautiful place, and the food was SO GOOD.
Your Japan videos were some of my favorite youve ever done and this one goes uip next to those as one of the best. I havent been to Hawaii since 97 so its been a long time. I love tropical places and they make such sensational backdrops for videos like this. Thanks for sharing this journey MJ!
great video MJR! Thanks for letting us in on your awesome vaca
I would assume it's difficult to find good stuff here considering how salty the air is. A guy wanted $90 for a Pokemon Gold that was so corroded I didn't think it would work lol
Two things I've always wanted to do, meet metal Jesus and go to Hawaii 😃
This is every gamers dream 🙏🏻
Thanks for another fantastic travel video! Really beautiful footage in this one, too.
Born and Raised here on Oahu and the retro game community is small but very awesome. I met RetroMax at one of the collector expos at one of the nearby malls and this was the first time I saw a great selection of retro games in my life. He priced everything fairly! Bookoff tends to over price some things but none the less. Game hunting here on the island is a big challenge but it’s great fun as you go all over the island to different spots. Hope you visit again MJR!
Metal Jesus is on a mission from God... Gaming God
🙏
This looks like an awesome travel documentary series😊
Your contest is so real, nice and wholesome, love the vibes
Thanks for sharing Hawaiji trip! Aloha! It was nice to see game shop possibiliies, food, scenery and Retro Max. Thank also for UV warning. Big Swap meeting event was great.
PRO TIP: If you repeatedly attack one of the chickens with a sword, eventually a whole flock of its friends will fly down and rapidly peck you to death. In ancient Hawaiian times this was called the “angry cucco” secret!
PS1 has so many great titles that aren't talked about. The ultimate "hidden gem" system.
It's true 👍
So cool to see "my backyard" on RUclips! I've been to nearly everywhere shown here, I feel oddly honored that you've explored and enjoyed the same places I go to on a regular basis. Hope you come again one day!!!
Really awesome video! I have been wanting to visit there for a long time. The train tours look great, I will be doing that. Thank you!
Lovely video. I was there in february with family and went to the same swap meet and found some some old ps1 favorites. Wish I'd known about Book Off though. Also, You were probably trying to keep the tone of the video positive but I wish you touched on some of the reality of Hawaiian culture and politics that sadly most main-landers are blinded from. These include the homeless population, most of which are native in heritage. The Gentrification of natives by rich corporations and developers. Also there's the historical, forceful and manipulative colonization of the Hawaiian kingdom by The American Government. Native people cant even afford to buy homes in their islands even with 3 jobs and college degrees due to inflated prices even before the economy was ruined by the Pandemic. I could tell going there that behind every working class local, there is a suppressed resentment behind their kind and warm smiles that they have to put up because they need the money.
We are going to Hawaii next year with my family. Was thinking of doing this and boy that is nice to see a video like this
You're gonna have a great time. 👍
Love your trips Metal Jesus you have been a massive inspiration in my RUclips journey. Love your game hunts and pickups
That's awesome y'all got a chance to both enjoy the island as well as collecting what you love.
Book-off is definitely one of my go to's whether it be in Hawaii, San Diego, or Japan
Normally islands have the "four seasons" in one day. The mountains makes a difference.
Even in Seattle you have that, I think. Where you live, it rains a lot more and the environment is more green than the side where Riggs lives, where it rains less and the scenery is less green.
I would bet that in the middle there are mountains.
Very true. The eastern side of Washington State is very dry and hot, where in Seattle it's wet and rainy. All within the same day.
Wow, what a trip! Thanks for sharing! Nice with some relaxing in such a beautiful place!
Dude, seriously, how are you not in the million sub club?!!! You definitely should be up there. Love your channel. Just down to earth.
Thanl You for the Kind Words About My Home! Good to see you found items to take home! ALOHA
THANK YOU. I have been stationed here for three years and it drove me wild that I couldn't find many retro game stores. So seeing Bookoff is gonna have me going this weekend!
Spectacular! Love the travelogues. Insider UV info was greatly appreciated.
I stayed in oahu also mostly on north shore , loved it, less tourist and nice beaches
Looks like such an amazing place to visit! Glad you had good time! Now my wanderlust is ticking like crazy! 😄
This was incredible. I know I will most likely never get to experience this in person, but if I do I feel I would love it, just due to this video showing it off. You should def do a gamers guide to visiting places (which you have done essentially - almost like a travel channel style series, between here, Japan, other US cities, etc.) I also keep forgetting how tall you are, you seem like you tower over just about everyone you're around. That Swap Meet looked so incredible, I just love those style of sales and experiences. Such an outstanding journey and video to accompany it. Beautiful place, amazing scenery, and actually a pretty good gaming scene. Love the Prototype series, need to go back and finish off the playthrough I was doing and Do the hard playthrough, such a cool game. Some great pickups there. Phenomenal work as always MJR, see you for the next one.
Love these travel videos Jason, so well put together, informative and so enjoyable! It’s almost like I’m on the trip with you! Can’t wait to see what amazing content you’ve got in the pipeline.
Very cool video MJR - loved seeing your adventures in Hawaii! & props for showing the 'Eat em & Smile' vinyl :D
So awesome! Great video of oahu!!Glad you got to visit and enjoy your time here! 🤙
I love it! Thanks for sharing your trip mjr
My family and I go to Hawaii every few years, we generally stay at the Turtle Bay Resort and then go to honolulu. It's definitely a massive change of scenery compared to the Pacific Northwest
So stoked you posted this already, we're headed there in 2 weeks! Thanks!
Love these game hunting/traveling videos, super cool as usual!
Really great fun vlog, probably my favorite video from you! I wish you keep traveling and filming because it’s a treat that you get the landscapes as well as video games of that place that is something I love to do
Okay Hawaii looks amazing! Glad you both had a great time.
Moved from NYC to oahu 19 years ago. It is simply amazing here, love everyday!
Great video! Crazy how much you got done in the time you were there! Good planning/organisation!
Beautiful place! Nice video Jason as always
Hawaii?!?? *Hops on Plane* ... thanks Metal Jesus, it's beautiful here!😎🍻🍺
My wife and I just went to Oahu for our honeymoon last year. It was both our first time's in Hawai'i! What a beautiful place it is! It's great to see you enjoying life and hunting for those games!
My grandfather was in WW2 so I grew up eating spam. I fry it with butter and it tastes like a cross between ham and bacon. I get a bag of frozen vegetables and zap them in the microwave. I put the spam and vegetables over rice with some oyster sauce. I also put fried spam in my Mac and Cheese.
coming to hit LIKE and watch after work. can’t wait to see this. my favourite video recently was when you went to Vegas. That was a great trip so thanks for taking me a long.
Thanks so much!!
Thanks for sharing your fun trip with us!
Love these travel videos! Looks like you had an awesome time in Hawaii and made some great pickups...and thanks for the call out regarding that UV index 🔥🔥🔥
I agree with some of the other comments, you do a really nice job sprinkling in travel aspects of these trips along with the games. Keep up the great work and thank you!
What a fun video! thanks for sharing your trip Metal J
I was stationed there for 5 years and just left this year. Absolutely loved it.
I'm so jealous. Hawaii looks amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome video brother! I love here in Hawaii and I love to see the good vibes you brought and felt here! Mahalo brother!
Thank you, Jason. You always make us feel like we went there with you.
Man this makes me want to go back. Have been back a few times as an adult. We got our snes when it came out while living there. So many cool places.
Too cool. I got to spend a few days there back in '94 and can still remember the gorgeousness. Glad y'all had a good time. Best!
Such a relaxing video! Honolulu looks amazing!
Love these game hunting travel videos. Your best work IMO
Thank you so much for these vacation videos and showing us and informing us of what to do there and filming everything yourself. Just amazing, so enjoyable to watch!
Thanlks for the UV index as well, that was nuts! Thank you so much
Finally got to watch this after work. Worth it, another great video @MetalJesusRocks
Whoever works the camera does a fantastic job, nice scenic shots and very steady. Would love to go to Hawaii some day.
