Cantina Style Salsa Recipe ~ Noreen's Kitchen Basics

- Today a quick and easy kitchen basic! This time for that delicious cantina style salsa we all love when we go to the Mexican restaurant! This stuff is super simple to make and you are going to love it! A combination of fresh and pantry ingredients and you will have salsa in no time! Have your chips ready and always have these ingredients on hand because you can make this in the drop of a hat and everyone is going to devour it!
This salsa starts with a large can of either whole or diced tomatoes along with some diced tomatoes and green chilies. I have also thrown in some fresh cilantro, onion, garlic, jalapeno pepper and lime juice and then seasoned it all up with salt and some Sazon Tropical, a latin style seasoning blend that really takes this over the top.
Everyone in my family loves this so it is a good thing this makes about three pints of salsa. This is the perfect thing to take to a friend's house or for tailgating or any time you want a fresh snack. Of course this is delicious for dipping tortilla chips, but think about the possibilities! Spoon into your taco, over your enchiladas, on an avocado or on your eggs for breakfast!
I hope you give this simple, quick and easy cantina style salsa a try sometime soon and I hope you love it!
Happy Eating!

I’ve tried countless salsa recipes, but they all either lacked flavor or tasted too much like canned tomatoes. When I decided to give this one a try, I was expecting the same result, but was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it is! It’s packed with flavor and tastes a lot like restaurant-style salsa. I’m so glad I finally have a go-to salsa recipe! Thank you!
Consider draining canned tomatoes before blending in the food processor. You can always add liquid later.
I viewed the video just knew I had to make this salsa !!! Got all the ingredients and prepped everything, inside of 10 minutes it was done. I chilled for a bit and then tasted the salsa... WOW !!!!! This is even better than restaurant style salsa and everything is fresh. I will never again buy a store bought jar salsa again. Thank you Noreen, I have subscribed and can't wait to make more recipes !!!
Oh my gosh Noreen this is my favorite salsa on the planet I just love it I can fill up on that before a meal and then save the money at the restaurant you did a fantastic job
I made it today and your right, the salsa is FANTASTIC and sooooo easy to make !!
You have the best tasting recipes ever!! I'm addicted. Thanks for all your hard work. Xoxo

Making salsas this weekend mmmm 😋thank you so much for sharing
I just made this and it is VERY good, exactly what I wanted. Thank you much for the recipe.
Dear Miss Noreen, my family and I just love watching your videos. You're so spontaneous and welcoming. What a great hostess you must be. Anyways, God bless and warmest regards from Brazil!
"Thumbs UP"
You'd think, since I live in New Mexico... and have had a restaurant... I'd know how to make this...
I've never made it, because my sister-n-law made it all the time... NOW I can make it myself.
Thank you so much for sharing this great receipt. So Excited to make this.
I was looking for a dupe for Cerritos Mexican kitchen in Roswell and praying this is it
I live in Texas, and we eat salsa on everything, anxious to make your recipe, it looks delicious! Allof your recipes I’ve tried has been delicious! Thanks for sharing, love your videos!
Chunky salsa from the jar is good sometimes but this thin pourable version is by far the best when you're just sitting on your couch scrolling through Netflix and this is your snack. Love it. Awesome recipe!
Salsa looks great! Enjoyed the video. Thanks for taking the time to make it!
I love your recipes and all videos Noreen. Thank you for sharing with ❤️ love.
I have watched 5 of your playlists in a row on my two days off!! Wow!! So many goodies🤗
Can’t wait to make this I love salsa
Thank you
Thank you for making this video! So many brands make "restaurant" style salsa, but its actually still just chunky salsa.
Just got through making this and it is so delicious it won't last long around my house
I fortunately have all of these ingredients on hand! I am going to try this. I love salsa but have never mastered the art. This looks doable. Thank you.
Delicious. I just made today . My husband and i both enjoyed it . Thank you so much.
It's funny because I make salsa all the time and I am always looking for new ideas. From you, the tip I learned was to try the Sazon seasoning, but even though I've made salsa countless times, I didn't even notice you left out the onion until you mentioned it. I appreciate you showing the entire process, even something you forgot. It also just goes to show how flexible salsa is when it comes to making it. My favorite style is half your recipe and half fire roasted (under the broiler). The mix of fresh and charred is amazing.
Thank you for this, it was excellent!
This looks just what I’ve been looking for. That’s the consistency my husband loves. Thank You ☺️🤗😉🤠
Same
Thank you, will be trying this soon! Thank you!
Thank you for the recipe, I love salsa.....
Looks great ,nicely done 🤗👍👍👍
Wow, I just made it and it's amazing. Just as good as I recently had at a sit-down Mexican food restaurant.
I will be making this.....we eat alot of chips and salsa in our home! Thank you!
I use fresh tomato 🍅
a batch of salsa, a batch of chile con queso, tortilla chips,... and no one wants dinner!🥰😊👍
Looks fantastic!
Looks great and I'm sure it tastes great too.
This came out so good... thanks 😊
Awww....kitty needs ❤
Great recipe. Just made it and it turned out awesome!
Fantastic recipe chef 👍👌👏. Thank you for your effort 🙏🌞
I always put a dab of sugar in mine to take the edge off the tomatoes. But will try it exactly this way, with this blend maybe I won't need the sugar. Looks yummy!!
Finally. The recipe I was looking for. Simple and delicious 😋
I made it for my daughter's birthday. I just had the opportunity to taste test it. The guest licked the bowl clean. None left for me😒
I've never used Sazon. What a grand idea! I'm gonna try right now... Thanks Norden 😊
Looks so amazing..thank you
Yummy, this is fun!
lol I was gonna say....why no onion? 😭🤣but whew! Nom nom nom...poor hubby, HAS to taste test (dramatic back of hand on forehead) Glad your family is ok from the hurricane! ❤️
Super Thank you
I live in Tokyo and will make this with chips and homemade quesadillas for my daughter and her friends. Thanks and I’m also a scooper!!
I make my quick salsa like that also. I also put a chipotle pepper and some of the Adobo sauce in it as well to give it that Smoky flavor. It always comes out delicious.
Great idea!
Great recipe. I was looking for a salsa recipe that was not for 10 pint jars. Just the way you did it. Thanks. Don'
t worry about that onion. It all comes out in the wash. Hope you and yours are all safe and sound from Hurricane Week.
Loves your recipes
I made it and I love it!
Wow, Noreen! This Cantina Style Salsa is the BEST homemade Salsa, I have ever eaten! Thank you.
I looked on your Website, but could not find the Recipe, to get the amount of Tropical Sazon you used, so, I went with One Tbsp...figuring I could adjust, from there...
One Tbsp was perfect, to me...
Noreen's recipe calls for 1 teaspoon of the Badia brand sazon tropical seasoning. I just made it and it really is the best !!!
This recipe went around on Facebook two years ago and has been my go to ever since.
I have been making this salsa for 30 years. Never once saw it on Facebook.
Good job . !! Looks good .
So good!!!
Looks yummy..Thanks

Cat is like " Hey lady I'm talking to you!"

Then make some, 2 years later.
Thank you for sharing.
This looks perfect. Exactly what I was looking for. You could add it to Pico if you wanted smooth & chunky at once. Thank you for sharing!
Great idea!!
Thanks for video I am going to make it tomorrow but in different way delicious
Your cat trippin in the background is amazing. 🤣🤣😂😂
I tried your salsa recipe this evening. I also forgot the onion. I put 3 spring onions in at the last minute. This is even better than a lot restaurant salsas. Hello from Greensboro.
LOVE cantina style salsa, everything at the grocery store is thick and chunky.
I love cooking videos that admit to their mistakes. It makes me feel better about my mistakes 😄
Looks real good.. going to make it m
Amazing recipe😁
Great Job 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻🍅

That looks so good. I'm a new subscriber
Liked your video especially that you kept in the part where you forgot the onions - it happens to the best of us!
Yummy!
I made mine from what I had on hand. I didn't have any cilantro, so I substituted fresh basil from my basil plants. The salsa was delicious!
Basil? That's Italian tomato sauce. lol
i made your recipe in the instant ACE Blender & it was the bomb digidy
Kitty wants salsa!!
you didnt put the seasoning in. i love love crave salsa..this looks great.
I boil my jalapeno until they lose bright green color. I usually use 5-6 to a large can of tomatoes and add some garlic powder. Throw in blender. There are so many variations and I love them all !
Has the recipe been posted? I can't find a link.
This was wonderful. *Have to laugh though because as a cat Mommy, when I heard your cat in the background, I thought it was mine and went searching for her trying to figure out where she was stuck and meowing from lol
I have just done the exact same thing, thought mine was outside my front window then I checked my bedroom door thing he was stuck in there 🙄😁😁😁

Hi Noreen, I tried your recipe about a year ago. VERY good. However, my family likes just a little more heat. Not to much but just a touch. So, this is what I did and I hope you approve. 1- 28 oz can diced Roma
tomatoes. 1- 10 oz can Rotel diced tomatoes with green chilies ( I use mild), 5-6 gloves of pickled garlic, 1 small to medium sweet onion, 2 cleaned jalapenos, 4 dried red peppers, 1 poblano pepper ( seeds removed), juice of 1 lime, 1/2 teaspoon sea salt, 1/2 teaspoon Kinders " The blend" . Blend everything together in a blender or food processor. Place in a bowl and add chopped cilantro. Mix and set in frig.
I hope who ever tries this recipe likes it.
💜
Backup the truck 🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂 I love it thanks
what is that food processor you are using?
Oh yeah the rotel!! Aldi has their brand and its so cheap!I can't remember but it might be 50 cents or 75. Looks great!!
Like I make mine but sometimes use green onions. It is delicious!!
First time viewer. Great video & recipe. Thank you. 💕
Aw, I hear a kitty in the backyard ❤️
I take the onion, jalapeno, garlic and a couple whole tomatoes and roll them around a bit on a hot cast iron pan. If you fully roast these ingredients you can sweat them in a plastic bag then peal them. Learned this from and old Mexican man. He never put garlic in but I do.
Good save!!
Cantina style salsa so easy you will want to make it all the time! Don't forget the chips! A printable version of this recipe is available on my website here: bit.ly/3fPLqGB
Noreen's Kitchen replace sazon with what if we don't have that in our area ?

Hi Noreen , how long will this restaurant style salsa keep in the refrigerator. Made it this mornin and is delicious 😋
I LOVE that pottery bowl you always use. Where did you get it?
A friend from many years ago made these bowls we have two sets of four hand thrown rice bowls of hers. She no longer makes them and focuses on art pieces now.
I use jalapenos and serrano peppers to taste. I'll put 3 of each in as a starting point. When you have all the ingredients in and your tasting your picante sauce don't only check the seasonings, check the heat level. You may need to add 1 or 2 of each pepper along with your salt, etc. of the additional ingredients needed in this recipe to enhance the flavor. Enjoy and God Bless!
Oh and in case Y'all didn't know serrano peppers are just a little hotter than jalapeno peppers. Just like salt, put the right amount, taste testing and adding a little at a time because just like salt you can add too much.
Just curious what blender or processor do you have
It's the ninja
I'm still having coffee, BUT BUT BUT...sure could enjoy your salsa and chips...! Looks so good....I'm gonna make it...thanks, Noreen !!! Was wondering if just a teaspoon of sugar would be good in the recipe?
You could try but I did not find this to be too acidic. If anything I would add more lime juice.
Just made this..so GOOD!!!
