Healthy and homemade fresh fire roasted salsa! Delicious family recipe that is a favorite. I enjoyed this recipe as a child and today my children enjoy it! Whole food and plant based vegan recipe that everyone will enjoy!
7 raw chopped tomatoes, 7 blackened tomatoes (Roma tomatoes are my favorite for salsa but in the video I used vine tomatoes)
1 chopped onion
1 bunch cilantro
8 cloves garlic
juice of 2 lemons
1 large jalapeno
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp salt (optional)
10 dried chile arbol peppers
Chop all the raw tomatoes, onion, cilantro, garlic, jalapeno, and combine in large bowl.
Add the lemon juice, garlic powder, and salt to the mixture.
Blacken or roast the tomatoes in a large frying pan over medium high heat. Get the skins as dark as possible to give a roasted flavor. Then set aside to cool
To roast the chile peppers, get the pan as hot as possible and then take outside. Add the chile peppers to the hot pan and darken . Take extreme caution to not breathe the fumes in from the peppers. I wait until all the smoke is clear before bringing the pan back into the house.
Blend the roasted tomatoes and chiles together in a blender.
Add the blend to the fresh chopped ingredients and mix well.
Serve with your favorite chip and enjoy!

If you are sensitive to spice or heat you can always take the seeds out of the peppers or even use less peppers. This salsa is spicy, but my kids love it this way, and would be upset if it wasn't on the spicy side.

Corin Parcells You can definitely broil the tomatoes in the oven, that works too! You're just looking for the tomato skins to darken and blister to give it that fire roasted flavor. A lady at the store said is ok to leave out the dry chiles because it's for heat not so much flavor. I hope I don't mess it up. I really want some authentic salsa so maybe I'll have a breakthrough! Awesome! I think because it is simple without too many ingredients. I know people will add oregano or cumen for a different taste and I'm sure they're still good, but simple is better. :)

I made this for the Superbowl and it's soo delicious! The smoky flavors mingle beautifully with the fresh vegetables. I added more jalapeño and a small amount of smoked habanero & ghost pepper powder to give it an extra kick. Great recipe. 🤲🏻

Thanks Karin for sharing this recipe. We love it ! we are using it for taco’s as a topping. Because of the kids i am using 4 dried chili 🌶️ for blackening instead of 12 or so. It is abosolutely delicious. I just had to take time to comment on this … thanks
Thank you! The way I roast chiles is that I spray them with olive oil and put them on a cookie sheet and bake for about 4 minutes at 425 F. That worked really well, saved a lot of trouble and didn't make a mess.
If you remove some or most of the seeds, you can control how how your salsa is, but it's more work.
I make an awesome mole', but it's not hot.

I attended a birthday party of about 30 Adults yesterday and made your salsa:3 quart bowl. We arrived a bit late and I noticed a small bowl of salsa about two pints on the table with some of it eaten . I placed my bowl next to it. People kept telling me my salsa was so good. 5 hrs later all of the salsa I brought was gone. The salsa in the other bowl was still there. Your salsa is exactly what you said "the best salsa in the ever"

I just made a batch of this exactly as instructed and it is amazing! It is up there with some of the best salsa i have ever had and that is straight out of the food processor! I cant wait to try this in a couple of days to see how it is after it has aged and the flavors have blended a bit.

What a great idea, combining fresh and roasted! I’m definitely going to try this. I think it might work well with my salsa verde too. I do love the vibrant taste of the fresh tomatillo but it would add a new level. I have gobs of the larger red chilies that would work. Thanks!

Advice:
Use aluminium foil over the pan and that way you don't have to clean the pan as ofc u want that burn. But cleaning after is anoying
You can't use aluminium on tomato! It will turn rancid

Pro tip: roast the Chiles on really low heat instead of high heat and they won't give off all of those fumes.

Great Recipe, I got my recipe from a Mexican restaurant I tended bar at and it's the same except I also squeeze the juice out of one tangerine.Roasting the tomatoes and peppers and tangerine is my 😉😉secret..

By the way there are over 2,500 different varieties or “breeds” of tomatoes. Try some Black Krim, Cosmonaut Volkov or Brandywine. Actually try growing your own. Even in a large flowerpot in a sunny window if you don’t have a yard . And try Romanian Sweet instead of bell peppers. There is so much flavor in the world !!!!!

I want to make your salsa today. The tomatoes are not that great where I live... can I use a can of fire roasted tomatoes instead of roasting them myself? What size can? Ty!
I have never used canned tomatoes, but I know that you can use them in place of homemade roasted tomatoes. I would use a 28 oz can of roasted tomatoes. Let me know if you make it! :)
i made this 9/22/2018 game day i used 14.5 oz of hunts fire roasted diced tomatoes it didn't taste that great but i managed to to save the salsa with a lot of backyard grown mini cherry tomatoes, the hunts tasted like the italian style tomatoes that come in the can... so either i'll try another brand or try roatsing them.. good luck

Will give it a try. You use same the ingredients I use with the addition of lemon and Arbol chiles. I roast tomatoes and chiles on a grill. I would think the tomatoes would mess up the seasoning on your cast iron pan.
Guys this is a good idea but instead you guys can do it the way I do it:
1. Cilantro
2. Tomato
3. Chilli ( red or green)
4. Salt
5. Lemon
Mix all together and it should be watery.
This is a homemade recipe invented by me. 12 year old girl please like.

Also good but you should try it with my tortillas recipe:
1. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Stir in water and oil. Turn onto a floured surface; knead 10-12 times, adding a little flour or water if needed to achieve a smooth dough. Let rest for 10 minutes.
2. Divide dough into eight portions. On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion into a 7-in. circle.
3. In a large skillet coated with cooking spray, cook tortillas over medium heat for 1 minute on each side or until lightly browned. Keep warm.
Or you can blend everything like i do and drink it in a bottle. While mommy reads me a story
