I always enjoy watching these videos. It brings me back in time. My grandparents had Oldsmobiles, and my parents had Chryslers. My uncle Sonny had Ford LTDs. I had Pontiacs, and Plymouths. I wish I could go back to my house when I was a kid, and to my Dad's shop. Just to see everyone, one more time.

I remember the Young mobile commercials.
These GM cars of the late sixties were and still are the ultimate for me.
Size, power, luxurious ride and dignified looks.
I still remember being slammed into the back of the front seat as my neighbour floored his Olds 98 with the big block.
Nintey miles an hour uphill in a few seconds while he was showing me the thick super comfortable power seat positions.

A coworker friend of my Dad’s pulled up in front of the house with a brand new ‘67 88, same color as this one. Being 7 and 4’ tall myself and not realizing I was already a car guy, I went over every square inch of that car while they shot the breeze. The car must’ve made an impression because I clearly remember that car, now 56 years ago.

As far as these GM sleds go, I'm more of a Buick guy. However, this ride is amazing. I can't believe how fresh and bright the dash lights are. That 425 idles so nicely! I see a lot of comments regarding grandparents. I was about 17 when my Grandmother gave me my 1st car. Her old 1973 Riviera. Console shift burgundy with white landau and white leather interior. I'm 59 now and own 2 Dodge Challengers. 1st gen and 3rd gen. Grandparents rule!

Maybe the most gorgeous Delta 88 coupe body ever!
That huge swoop and character line over the rear quarter panel and fastback roofline are gorgeous!
From the thumbnail at first I thought it was a mid 70s Ford Montego, very similar look on the front.
On the sides it seems very much Riviera and in the fastback rear almost like a big Camaro.
And it all comes together into a magnificent looking car !

Those Oldsmobiles of the 1965-1970 era were very substantial, durable cars. I knew someone whose father owned a '67 Delmont of the same body style as this car. His also had the 425 engine, and even with just the 2-bbl. carb, that heavy car could accelerate with the best. It blew away many known muscle cars at the stoplights, and even with all that weight could smoke its tires for yards. That car always made me think of a large 1968 Cutlass coupe.

I had the 307 in my 83 delta 88, loved that car and the 307 had no problems pulling the car around plus it was decent on gas.
The only problem with that engine, the 307 was the a.i.r. manifold for the air pump would rust out and was quite a job removing it and when it leaked it sounded like a broken exhaust manifold.

My very first car was a 67 Olds 98 Luxury Sedan. I wanted a 64 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible, but my mom was afraid I would roll it and break my neck. The Olds had every option except Comfortron and cruise control. I remember one of the power vent window motors went out and I couldn't find a replacement, so I took the motor apart and stuffed it with pebbles to keep it from moving! Good memories with that car.

Adam, my aunt’s boyfriend had a 67 Delmont 88 2 door like the one you are driving that was yellow with a black vinyl top and black interior. I just got my license in 1969. One night after he was drinking heavily, he wanted me drive him and his car home which was about a 20 minute drive. It was the first time I had driven on an expressway and it was at night. He kind of passed out in the car and on the expressway I didn’t know any better since it was my first time on it, and was looking out at where the headlights ended and not straight out ahead. I was panicking for about 10 minutes, and kept thinking I might wreck. I finally realized you had to look straight out ahead and not at where the headlight beams ended. Watching you drive your 88 brought me right back to that scary night. Thanks for the memories Adam.

Great video! Brings back many good memories. My dad (still alive at 94) bought a new 1967 Olds Delta 88 Custom, silver with black vinyl hardtop, black interior. It had the 425, 4 bbl, with a big red air cleaner that had a stainless insert on top, that I believe said "Super Rocket Ultra High Compression" It definitely took premium fuel. Us kids would cajole my very conservative dad to occasionally do a big burnout across an intersection. I inherited the car in the last year of high school when it was getting old. Great memories, very powerful, smooth and held lots of teenagers. One finger power steering boost. I sold it for $150 in 1980, with about 120,000 miles on it. I often think about it. He owned at least four Olds Delta 88s through the 70s...into the 80s. The 67 was the most memorable though.

When Cadillac tried to replicate the theme somewhat in 1971 and 1972 (73 they tried to put a light in the middle) it did not come odd that well imo. Anyway, love this car and agree it is nice to have some more “simple” cars in the collection rather than the fully loaded ones.

1960s Oldsmobiles were always well lit cars. You need to show some of the other lights like the underhood and trunk lights (sometimes optional) and the ashtray and glove compartment lights. It looks like your radio light is burned out. My first car was a 1969 Delta 88 and I drove it a lot at night and appreciated those lights. It didn't have rear door dome light switches, so I added them myself with parts from a junkyard. It also had a mirror map light that never worked well. Kind of a strange design. About mileage--my 455 2bbl got 15 mpg highway on regular gas.

The 425 Oldsmobile engine was a very good engine torque monster l really like this car extremely nice and something you don't see anymore these cars were made for highway road trips comfort and plenty of power these cars move effortlessly with very little strain at low RPM but they burn gas like crazy 9-12 miles a gallon depending how you drive it for a big barge they accelerate well smooth as silk prefer it over Buick or Cadillac offering of the same year 1967 was a good year for cars

I had the 425 with a 4 barrel what a beast rated at 365 horse power in a 66 Ninety Eight. I think it weighed around 4,200 lbs.

Thanks for the drive down memory lane! In my late teens I owned a '67 Delmont 88 with the 425 high compression. Not much off the line, but from 35MPH on it was sprightly. It was also quite comfortable. I loved and drove it until someone ran a stop sign and we met perpendicularly...

    Adam,
Try setting your inoperative dash clocks at 10 minutes before 2 for a pleasing appearance. Your videos are Great! Thanks for doing them.

While the verbal description is on point, it is difficult to describe how smooth those cruisers felt when you were driving them. I lived in a town in the 60s with a lot of Oldsmobiles (few Fords - Henry Ford had had documented anti-semitism issues in the first half of the 20th century). So I got to ride in a few of these. Smooth, quiet, large. And attractive (except they all deteriorated quickly in those days). Given I wouldn't get my license until early 1973, these cars were incredibly aspirational to a suburban teenager like me.

They say that you learn something new every day. Today I learned that AFB stands for aluminum four barrel 😊. Never knew that.

The mid to late 60s period was Detroit’s finest hour. The D at its apex and how much I would have loved to experienced it. Love your videos and keep up the great work.

A person gave me a ride in one of these about 5 years ago and his 88 had low mileage on it too. The thing that stuck out on the ride was just how soft the rear suspension was on that car.

They are such beautiful cars! I love the grille/headlight design. The 67 442 is my favorite muscle car for the same looks. Watching you drive reminded me of my first car. Mom's hand-me-down 69 Riviera. Such similar lines. I stand wholeheartedly with Mr Mitchell about his disdain for vinyl tops!
