    Cammisa's Sneak Attack is a fly I've been tying and fishing since 2018, and one in which I've had success. Then again, if you follow me on Instagram (@troutandfeather), you've already seen this fly and some of the trout caught on it. ;-) Keep the tie slender and experiment with the dubbing that works best for you. When fishing this jig nymph, I prefer sizes #14-16 on the point, and smaller sizes as a dropper. Have fun with the Sneak Attack...now onto more good stuff:

    Hey Tim, thanks for the very illustrative video. I was tying this pattern on conventional nymph hooks many, many years ago. The black crystal flash is so easy to work with and I was just learning the nymph game. I've been tying and using perdigon style nymphs the past couple of years largely due to your videos. They even work in Alaska when the fish are not on the big stuff!

    Great video and love the fly! I know that this is an old video, however wondering if this fly would be as productive tied on a standard nymph hook or must it be tied on a jig hook? Thanks!

    • @TimCammisa
      @TimCammisa  3 года назад

      Thanks for the kind words and the fly is STILL a winner! To answer your question, tie it on the nymph hook you use most often, as it doesn't have to be a jig. I prefer them that way, as they are less likely to snag. Thanks for checking! Tim www.troutandfeather.com

    Hi Tim, thanks for sharing your "secret" Sneak Attack and I always enjoy your closing thoughts. I've converted to a Euro setup when nymphing and I doubt that I will ever go back to using a suspension device unless I'm fishing in very quiet water. Thanks for referring me to George Daniel and Devin Olsen, I've learned a TON from you guys. One question I have is how important do you think hook size is when Euro nymphing a fly like the Sneak Attack or any attractor nymph pattern like the Perdigon. It seems that using a larger (#14-16) hook and a bead head somewhat eliminates the "match the hatch" theory especially when the actual nymphs in the river are skinny 18s at best. Thanks for your thoughts, keep up the good work ! Bob

    • @TimCammisa
      @TimCammisa  4 года назад

      Hi Bob, and thanks for the email. Those are some exceptional fly fishers and tiers and I am happy to refer you their way. So hook size! In short, I don't overthink it, but definitely carry a range of sizes in varying bead weights. This spring and early summer had me using Euro nymphs down to a #20 (amzn.to/3jk1mUj), though some larger ones (#14 and #16) still caught fish. Does it eliminate the "match the hatch theory?" Definitely not, but I think it brings to our attention that many fish are opportunistic and aren't afraid to try other food items in the water. Great comments, Bob, and I hope all is well with you! Hi, Tim! Question for you: I caught that you recently switched over to the sybai dubbing for the thorax in copper red, but you held up a package of dubbing prior to showing the sybai fine diamond. I really like the color of that 1st dubbing, and the sheen off of it is just what I was looking for as well. I didn't catch what that was, though (the 1st dubbing brand or type) - could you clue me in on what that was, and where I can find it for purchase, please? I just placed an order with Competitive Angler for the Sybai dubbing - not that I needed it for the pattern, but I really liked it and... well, you know how it goes. :) Hope all is well with the family. Stay safe out there! -Pete

    • @TimCammisa
      @TimCammisa  4 года назад

      Hi Pete, and Happy Easter! The first one was a pack of dubbing from Performance Flies in Spruce Creek, PA. Kevin Compton sells it, and I would contact him to find out more. I believe the Sybai dubbing is extremely similar, so wait and see how it looks to you, as you may now have a pretty exact match. Thanks, and great to hear from you! Tim www.troutandfeather.com

    • @TimCammisa

      Hi Russell, and it really depends on a few factors. The #1 season for me has been mid-Spring, but late summer and early Fall is a great time to throw it in smaller sizes. In larger sizes, that dark color is great in winter. Experiment and see what works for you. Thanks for checking and I hope all is well! Tim www.troutandfeather.com
