It's so true. When I first started believing myself I wanted to straight up tell people to do the same but I realised that it's not necessary. Since then I've changed so much and people just ask me what changed in my life to why I'm so kind all of a sudden and not bitter like before and that is a great opening to spread the truth.

I was a militant Atheist for most of my teenage years but I'm starting to understand that God doesn't send people to hell but that it is our own rebellion and hatred for him so that we'd rather go to hell than acknowledge and submit to him.

As a former mormon missionary I experienced what Matt describes first hand. Being in the field and knocking on doors really bothered me. I realized we were harassing people. We came uninvited with a well-oiled sales pitch. Our goal was to get our foot in the door and share our presentation. We were taught to use common interests and hospitality to our advantage. We'd purposefully use generic Christian language and ask leading questions. We felt our ends justified the means. I'm amazed more people weren't openly hostile toward us.
That same lack of care and concern for the individual extends throughout the entire organization, in my experience. It's multi-level marketing more than a religion.

Children leave the church when they are not given the answers they seek. And as a result feel like they are not important and not accepted because their questions aren’t important. The amount of people I know personally who had a crisis of faith at the age of 12 and left then is staggering, and a lot of it was because their parents assumed that “they’ll just know” the answers by living in a western society (hint - they don’t) and that there would be no competing narrative for alternate explanations and no competition for learning the truth of our faith.
    • If you don’t discuss faith they will leave because they don’t feel like it’s important for them or that they’re important to the church.
    • If you don’t teach them what our faith means they will leave because they don’t even know what it means.
    • If you don’t answer their questions honestly they will leave because they feel neglected and WILL find alternate sources of information.
    • If you don’t explain that Catholicism and science are not mutually exclusive they will leave because they will falsely think that the church is somehow against modern science (that is what they’re told) and that this is bad as “The Science” TM is the new religion.

Nothing but facts. I went through an edgy atheist phase at around 13 years old because my parents were unable to answer my questions so instead I found answers in the “religion of science.” I became a lukewarm Christian again a few years later but only recently have I fully accepted the truth and beauty of Catholicism. I thank God for showing me the truth at a young age and not letting me continue on the path of ruin that I was on. Now it’s my responsibility to learn as much as I can so I can answer all the questions of my future children and make sure they grow up with a well rounded knowledge of the faith

As a young person, who attended mass regularly until leaving university,I can affirm that lack of community attributed to that leaving the church.
Going to mass, coming out and going home. Going into the hall for a coffee and a chat would have initiated community,at the simplest level. Groups and invitation to events for young people would have helped. Guidance on choosing a spouse, dating etc.,a pilgrimage or retreat for young adults.
The mega churches thrive through groups, and various ministries. People need evangelisation and continuing education and support after baptism and receiving the sacraments.Ticking the boxes is not enough. Neglect of nurturing the faith is like forgetting to water plants.
    Enjoyed this video.Thank you.
I returned to church about a decade later, having made many mistakes in my life. These could largely have been avoided by such outreach and ministry.

I'm a sinner. To echo Groucho Marx, why would I want to join a club that would have me as a member? I was welcomed by the Anglican Church, very much so, but they were more about being welcoming than being truthful, so my wife and I left. I'm extremely wary of Churches that don't make demands on me. I love Catholicism because of its no-nonsense truthful beauty and its willingness to stand against the spirit of the age. It doesn't need to be loved by the world, only by God the creator. Love our enemies, yes, but don't pretend they're not enemies. Friendship doesn't require untruthfulness.

    • @woke2woke153
      @woke2woke153 2 года назад +1

I originally fell away from the Anglican Church as a schoolkid, because I didn't respect it intellectually. Science, rationalism and political philosophy massively had the edge. I didn't discover the true depth of the Church's theological and philosophical resources until after I'd been a Buddhist for seven years in my forties. I now feel that was a great failing on the Anglican Church's part and that both theology and philosophy should be part of every child's basic education. Our children are being left to face intellectual wolves on their own. My mates and I at secondary school had near total contempt for church people, and their lovey-dovey niceness just made it worse. We needed meat not pap, and since the only meat was a blend of materialism and sex, that's what we ate. My apologies if that sounds vulgar.

I think often catechists distort the truth for two reasons. Firstly they often don't agree with (or don't possess the courage to defend), some aspects of the faith. More often though, it's because too many people approach the conversion of others as an argument they need to win.

This was spot on we have Catholic Christians sitting in the pews who don’t even know they are Christian nor know they are saved by the blood of Jesus on the cross because of the awful CCD that was given to my generation , I did not even know I was a Christian nor anything about Jesus at all from my kindergarten thru 12th CCD Sunday classes, it was awful and there are TONS of folks out there like me , most of these people are NOT going to try to learn on their own like I did , so they will either leave the church for a Protestant church or not go at all. I did not learn my faith until I did the bible study by Jeff Cavin’s that made my faith finally come together. I almost left the church for a Protestant church because I was so poorly taught, we are easy pickings because when they ask me if I was saved by Jesus I did not know that I was I was never taught that (again poor CCD) , it’s sad but tons of folks are gone and moved to Protestant churches or the majority are not going to any church at all because they are clueless about their faith.
I love Trent Horn and Father Mike and you Bishop, but the issue is we have to dumb down church teaching, start with the basic (Jesus died on the cross for your sins) then once folks understand Jesus then bring in Mary and the Saints and church doctrine after that, not before. In my CCD classes I was taught about Mary, the saints Holy Days and so on, but NEVER about Jesus. Jesus needs to be taught first then the rest comes in second. I know the reason is because of poor teachers I get that ,but it was a big issue for years that needs to be fixed. I think we need to have a big Mass one day every year to go over the basic teaching of the church (Jesus died for our sins on the cross and we are Christian that issue gets me mad when folks say I am a Catholic not Christian.
We need to state what is the bible (lots of folks don’t even know what we read at Mass is from the bible), what is salvation and so on. And we need to state what we don’t do like we don’t worship Mary, we don’t pray to the dead, we are not saved by works, yet tons of Catholics think we do all these things.
    God bless good talk

My parents trusted these people to help catechize my brothers and I but but they didn’t realized how much was not being taught because they were actually taught the truth of the church theorugh their catechesis.

Speaking of pastoral care. My parents were committed hard working Catholics. For the last 30 plus years of their parish life their parish priests came and went. Every few years they had a new parish priest. They were so angry with the last one because of his sensitivity on several occasions that they insisted he not be present at their funeral. We were more than happy to respect their wishes.
This is what really happens in so many parishes nowadays. How about a program on the harsh realities of modern parish life.

Though building relationships first can be used as an excuse to never actually speak the gospel to people, it is the right approach. It's the approach Jesus took. He met people where they were, often met their needs, and invited them to follow him. Following doesn't mean I'm fixed all at once. It means I allow the Lord to lead me. It means I trust that what he teaches is best for me, and I obey because of it. This is what the Church needs to do, lead people.

But I agree with you how can a contracepting individual tell someone using IVF not to do that? 91% of Catholics think contraception is ok. I've finally come to accept contraception is not good but this is really a challenge for my husband and I.

The bible tells us that faith comes through hearing and that everyone knows there is a creator, even if they are surpassing that truth. So, when the language of meeting someone where they're at is used, above presenting the gospel and the truth about salvation and damnation, it is quite suspect due to its unbiblical foundations.
Sure, Jesus spent time with people committing deadly sins but He always told them to sin no more and follow Him. He did not follow them out of some misguided sense of encounter. Bad company corrupts good morals, so we invite, encourage, and keep moving with Christ until they decide to give their lives to Him.
However, if I am missing something biblically then please set me straight, because this all seems like our way of modernizing the Gospel to the liking of others instead of faithfully providing it as laid out for us by Jesus and the Apostles.
    In Christ,
    Andrew

Oh well, at least I can post this singular comment, and of course, the Lord can use whatever means He desires to save those whom He "horizon-lined' before the foundations of the earth, the Lord doesn't need me, He can use someone else.

Baptist theology is only a couple hundred years old and anti biblical. As St. James said Faith without works is dead. Faith alone is expressly condemned in Scripture.
So, you’d need to start by defining terms such as “work,” and “faith alone” and “faith + works,” just to start.

As someone who considers himself nominally Catholic, and finds myself watching some of these videos, I have to ask after reading the comments. Why the hate for Protestants? It would seem to me you believe predominantly the same thing. At the very least, that Jesus is God, that Jesus is someone who's life we should model ourselves after. Are things like interpretations on the Eucharist, different books, religious practices, really worth all of this fractionation between a whole swath of people who call themselves Christians?
When the guys in this video talk about evangelism, what are they evangelizing? A Christianity in the broad sense, such as what C.S. Lewis would have talked about in his book Mere Christianity, or Catholicism specifically. Do Catholics really believe that Protestants are going to hell because even though they believe in Jesus and try to follow him, they just don't do it good enough. If so, how do you justify that idea, when almost the entirety of Catholic practices and interpretations come after Jesus, created by men who say Mass is sit here, stand now, sing this, see the Bible the way I read it, and this is what it means to be a real Christian.

    • @Ezekiel336-16
      @Ezekiel336-16 2 года назад +5

A big thorn for me with non-catholics is their often overwhelming lack of acknowledgement and reverence for the sacraments that Jesus instituted. Protestants know their bibles well but then want to deny the works of Christ for our salvation and sanctity by calling them "works based salvation or works of men".
Jesus breathed the Holy Spirit into the Apostles in order to give them the authority to forgive sins and He also gave us His resurrected flesh and related life (Zoe in the Greek) during the Last Supper and beyond (the cross and the grave). Those works of His are for our benefit, salvation and sanctification, so to call them works based salvation is only accurate if we say salvation based on Christ's works. Same goes for baptism, which again the Holy Spirit was present at.

I can't speak to the hateful comments as I haven't seen those yet but can say that no, Catholics don't believe Protestants are going to hell. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ. I have been Catholic all my life but there was a point where God really became real to me and I put Him above everything else in my life. This is what they are evangelizing, a conversion or a turning toward God. And actually, Jesus started the Catholic church and at the Mass we receive Him - Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. So Catholics have the fullness of the faith, the first form of Christianity. I would encourage you to research more about it and start to pray - God will surprise you and really speak to you. That is what happened to me and it changed my life! BTW half of my family is Baptist and I LOVE them dearly. My dad just became Catholic this Easter because he realized how much he longed to receive Jesus in the Eucharist which is only in the Catholic Church. Edward Sri's book, A Biblical Walk Through the Mass is very good and might help you out. God bless you!

Wow! What an honest comment! Yeah I’ve reverted back to the Church after some time dabbling in the Protestant world. Interestingly, the Protestants do a phenomenal job at the “belonging” part. These people were genuinely interested in you, wanted to pour into you, and would legitimately pray for you. They knew they weren’t perfect, but I saw first-hand the actual striving for perfection.
When I reverted, I feel very similar to you that 99% of catholics do not fully live out the faith. I feel frustrated sometimes about it. If we have the fullness of truth in the faith, and especially the Eucharist, why aren’t 99% of Catholics bursting with mission, joy, belonging, and ready at any moment to exemplify and share the faith to all? Then I took a look at myself...
