- This week's video is on Wee Heavy! Scotland's version of Barleywine. This video is in honor of a recently fallen homebrewer, Mark Todd. Mark's favorite style is Wee Heavy, and Mark frequently won awards for his take on the style. Mark's recipe is included in this dataset.
Mark leaves behind a wife and 3 young boys. If you feel compelled to donate something to Mark's family here's the link to their GoFundMe: www.gofundme.c....

This is exactly the information I have been scouring the internet for! I am new to all-grain brewing and recipe formulation. Between looking at BJCP Guidelines, mashing methods, and building a grain bill, your videos have it all together in one place! Thank you for all of your attention to detail, research, and time to make these videos! Can't wait to learn more from you in the future! Cheers!
Glad it was helpful! Best of luck with your beers!
Just found the channel; took me 2 mins to hit the subscribe button. I've never seen beer analytics before at this level.
Thanks!
Dude I love your videos, I wish there was someone like you in our local homebrew club.
Thanks!
Fantastic video. Very informative. Subscribed right away. This will help me round out my own recipe. Well done! Thanks
Awesome! Thank you!
I know you are heavy into comps right now... but I am looking forward to your next vid when you have time. I just got my temp control fridge and I am ready to get busy. Comps in Canada have been hit hard. I hear there MIGHT be 2 in the next year. That gives me plenty of time to learn I guess.
yes setting up our yearly competition has taken its toll on my time, also brewing, also collabing, also my day job. Helles video coming soon!
@@MeanBrews I totally get it. Good luck on the comps! Let's hope you bring home one of those fancy cups. :) Break a leg!
DIPA... For those cooler fall evenings
I hope your friends family is doing okay. My Eddy passed suddenly at 40 from a heart attack in 2007. I fully understand how hard it is. My heart goes out to her.
Wee heavy is a brew I knew nothing about. I saw someone had one on our Christmas advent exchange. (Local group in Calgary) Between you and my local brew group that does comps... I am learning so much. Last week at a club meeting a guy gave us his award winning kolsch recipe... he won 3rd overall beer in Canada with it... I am going to have to try it... laughing... with my canning pot and BIAB and bottle carbing. After I try the wee heavy from the advent... then I will decide if it is something I am interested in trying... to drink for next Christmas.
I'm so sorry to hear that. Mark brought so many people to homebrewing. He kept bees and made some fantastic meads as well. He is already missed.
Wee heavy is a malt forward style. Very strong, sweet, and Malty. It ages very well. Some breweries only serve theirs after a year of conditioning.
@@MeanBrews I enjoy malty goodness.
Thanks for sharing this video and the others. Love the data-driven approach to recipe formulation you are doing. Wondering if there are any updates on how this beer (or others you've brewed in the videos) have done in competition. Does regressing to the "what's winning" mean seem to be bearing fruit?
I'm keeping my brewfather recipes updated with competition results
Fuck yeah, been waiting for this. Cheers Mark!
Thank you so much for donating!!!
@@MeanBrews of course man. Homebrew for life. Cheers to you, Mark's memory, and Mark's family!
Helles
hope you liked the helles video!
@@MeanBrews got me into the group! thanks for the great vid
CHANGE THE SMOKED FOR THE PEATED OF THE GOOD?
I would not use peated malt for this. the smoke is just to add some complexity and should not dominate.
Dopplebock!
If love to see English Strong Bitter (ESB)
We just presented Helles and next up is cali common!
Dark Mild
Czech Pils
American stout!
Why are you passing on much shit, that you don't know nothing about? when has Munich or Aromatic been a part of this? you have got a job to get hold of it in the UK ?
It's not my fault homebrewers are winning competitions with ingredients you disagree with.
Did you miss the whole concept that this is data from medaling beers? Bitch at the judges, not the messenger lol.
The Malt Miller has an awesome selection of these malts.
