I hope Dan can capitalize on the rising popularity of synthwave. 80's style music fits him like a glove. Also, the animators did a great job; the video was fun to watch.
It's really nice and works at some moments but I feel it does that too much. Long shots should be used a little more sparingly. The cuts and transitions are really fluid but they don't sync with the soundtrack as often as it should. Nearly 30% of the video is a few frames off in addition to being too slow when the song prompts it to speed up.
After working with it for a bit I've found the bits I have issue with. The speed ramps lack the impact I like as it is already slow when the slow motion hits. It needs a little more variety. Some parts of the action sequence (particularly the entrance because that flash of electricity seemed like it wanted to be synced with the music), a lack of cuts and close up of the characters in those scenes, and there was a flash frame at the end that was distracting. Still love it though. The animator did amazing work.

Straight up. So powerful. That vocal high note belting out, the synth searing underneath it, the expressions and the movements of that wolf guy riding the bullet. Just so dam good.
Really eh? Personally, that's the only part that pulls me out of the video and go "what the hell, is this REALLY the time to display anguish and pain through interperative dance? By having little wolfie dance on the fucking MAGNUM BULLET that's gonna end Evil Space Moose?" Other then that (and a few animation errors with gold spilling out of the suitcase then the suitcase is still locked shut in the next segment) this video is fantastic, and Knights of the Light Table have a VERY bright future in animation if they can keep to this quality of work like this and Starlight Brigade.
It doesn't matter how many times I watch this. The sequence with Triangle riding the bullet always makes me feel a wave of emotions. Phenomenal animation.
Every line of this song, on it's own, is incredibly visceral and raw, but the mirrors between the before and after drawing a parallel to how what he has done has changed him mentally and emotionally just elevates every fucking line to the next level. This may be one of the greatest songs ever written and recorded. It's pure artistry.
I'm blown away by the animation and the incredible character design. Dan's beautiful voice is the cherry at the top of the cake. I'll play this on loop now
This is a fucking Masterclass in scene transitions. From a platter of wine glasses to the cylinder of a revolver, to the barrel of said revolver turning into a stripper pole. This should be shown in any cinematography class

for the sake of those like me who are scrutinizing over every frame to find every bit of detail possible, please don't. As an example of those details, the credits scene with miss blade/star wolf that has the news bulletin on circle wolf? the scrolling banner on the bottom is readable, and although it blurs completely at moments, it actually says "[unreadable bit] connection with the casino fire. Suspect was last seen wearing a grey shirt with a circle [unreadable]" So there's a bit of a darker story here, and i'm all for it.
The animator gave the ' Moose ' the name Big Bad Stag and the wolves the names by their shapes. Star ( was originally an X but somebody pointed out that their shapes were starting to look like the shapes of the Playstation buttons. )
I really wish we had anime that were more subjective in its animation. Like obviously man's not actually riding the bullet, but it's nice to see that kind of abstraction of reality
Dude same here man, deep deep shit in this one. Same as the Starlight Brigade by TWRP. We need animes of both of these, cause I'd totally watch them both.
Rikorage RIGHT?? It’s actually so gorgeous and the 80’s tone throughout the art and music has INTENSE nostalgia coursing through my Dan-stanning veins!
Star: while you all partied, i studied the blade. Square: while you all partied, i studied the... mechanical... claw arm... thing. Tri: Tri: Tri: gun go boom.
"My conscience paralyzed/against the rising tide/of haunting memories that drown a wasted life" The harmonies Dan layers on and the meaning behind the lyrics make this line unforgettable to me. The pain in his voice, the rise of the music behind it, the fact that he feels so much has gone to hell because of the need for revenge for a wrong he'll never right and the decision to follow that path causing a wave of regret that he'll never escape, it's incredible how much is said with so few words. This, folks, is why verbal imagery is one of my favourite parts of storytelling.
I love the recurring symbolism in this. Each one of the three fighers has a glowing symbol on their forehead - a triangle for the main protagonist, and a star and square for the other two. A glowing circle is the symbol of the one killed at the very beginning. At 1:20, the coins and bleeding circle show the protagonist weighing in his mind whether the stolen gold or his murdered friend are his real motivation; we see this indecision depicted again as the bullet flies upwards through a mix of falling gold and falling bodies. When the three finally enter the club however, glowing circles appear on the screens, showing they're not there for the gold that was stolen; they're there because of their fallen friend. When the protagonist fires his last bullet, we see it not only fly through a square and a star - because it was shot to protect his companions - but right before it hits the villain, it flies through a glowing circle, because it was also shot to avenge the one he lost. Finally, as the main protagonist walks away - not even caring about the gold - we see him transform into his fallen friend, to show that his spirit lives on in him. Masterfully done.
The lyrics are important too. It's a song about the futility of a life of violence, juxtaposed with a video telling a story of violent revenge. When gun wolf fires his last shot and there's a smaller version of himself pouring his heart out in a very out of character moment compared to the rest of the video, I believe it's probably his conscience. He's throwing away a part of himself every time he commits an act of violence, regardless of whatever justification he comes up with for it, and it hurts him deeply.
And the symbolism that comes on firing the bullet, of him dancing on it, and the agony he feels, knowing that he's getting his revenge, but it won't stop his pain.
I nearly lost it when I realized gun wolf is using his SO's gun - during the scene where they find the bodies you can see the holster Makes the whole thing a lil more poignant imo Also may I just say Knights of the Light Table killing it again with a music video so beautiful and detailed it feels like an entire TV series?
migeeto migeeto Right?!?!? The more I study the details, the more impressed I get! It’s so sad to see how close Circle and Triangle were. The credits imply Circle might’ve used the casino winnings to buy that jacket for Triangle (the jacket had a gold price tag on it when Circle gifted it to Triangle. Gold color=winnings=gold color from Moose) The body language between those two definitely implies they were lovers, so it breaks my heart and makes the video so powerful. All crew involved did an amazing job
Watching that, I don't think it's so much a dance move in battle as him double-checking that no one else but the boss is left. He starts forward, sweeps around to check (looking like he's dancing), and moves forward again.
@@Indagare Oh no, its absolutely a dance, its a case of just *not* giving a damn anymore and wanting revenge *and* enjoying every second of it. and its *hilarious*

there are so many things i love about this music video; - just. ALL the transitions at the start of the video, cutting between the Golden Bull and the club, and the wolves (Triangle, Star, Square) suiting up. it's all framed SO well (especially the wine tray turning into the revolver, then the revolver turning into a stripper pole) - on that note the transitions all throughout the video are absolutely incredible - the designs of all the characters are killer, even the background characters (like the lizard(?) at 1:51) - "i am a different man" lining up with the shot of Triangle at the start of the video transforming into his vengeance-driven angry self - the little spin he does as he walks towards the Bull is really cute and well animated also LMAO - EVERYTHING about the shots where the Bull breaks Star's sword, with the sword shards reflecting Star and Square and making the whole scene super dynamic - the MAAAAAGNUMMM BUUUULLETTSSSS bit. just. the entire shot. Triangle dancing in time with the lyrics and acting them out, then falling to his knees and screaming in anguish and the expressions and emotions are done SO WELL. plus the bullet flying through the symbols of his friends, including Circle, since he fired that bullet for them - Triangle not even looking back to get the gold, all he wanted to do in the end was avenge Circle literally just the entire music video is incredible, Knights of the Light Table do unbelievably good jobs with animation
My favourite thing about the last scene is the way he just makes the avenging shot, drops the gun, walks away. He knows he won’t get anything real from this moment. An act of revenge that leaves both Bull and Triangle with nothing.
@@camb06 the way I see it, it's not just revenge. Triangle knows he's lost something he'll never get back, but I've always seen him taking out moose as him saying "I won't let you do to anyone else, what you did to me." Maybe I'm wrong though.
I’m not saying this and over exaggerating but this is my 43 time watching this after the first time watching this I knew I was going to watch this so much so I just counted ever since then I I am still amazed by how good they did on making this
Are they really the bad guys? Or did the 'circle' wolf actually cause a casino fire and fled with the money? And his wolf friends are avenging that decision he made?
You should check out Dan's earlier foray into music before he started NSP, called Skyhill. It's very much like this. They made a single album a long time ago and got together for a song again not too long ago. The project is on hiatus with no one expecting it to come back, but it's good shit.
That killing shot... All of his passion, all of his vengeance, all sent into one bullet... It was so perfectly animated, right down to the last wrinkle in his mouth, I had to watch that segment over and over again.
The last scene gives me shivers every time. The casual way that Triangle dances towards the Moose with a sort of disregard for everything happening around them...The way the dancing figure on the bullet makes you FEEL all the pain and fury and grief that Triangle is feeling, while the lack of background for the shot makes it feel like nothing exists except Triangle, the bullet, Moose, and the two fallen wolves...This, combined with the way Triangle instantly drops the gun as soon as the shot lands and simply turns to leave, and the final shot of a black background with only Circle. I can feel the emptiness left after Triangle took revenge. There's nothing left.
The bullet also passes through a square, a star, and a circle. It's not only about his pain, but also his loved ones. That whole sequence is just SO GOOD.
Everything about this is perfect: 1.) Dan’s god-tier lyrics and voice. 2.) Night Runner’s god-tier instrumentals. 3.) Knights of the Light Table’s god-tier animation.
I came back 2 years later to watch this again because I was remembering how fucking insane this was the first time I watched this. It still hits just has hard now as it did before
The concept has hard “Lone Digger” vibes. I know danny said he was a fan of that music video so i wonder if this was partially inspired by Caravan Palace.
That final shot with the Circle wolf's image appearing in place of the Triangle one does things to me I can't explain and I don't understand why... it's really powerful.
I guess combined with the expressions on the bullets sequence where you can see the pain and sorrow in his face, knowing he can't get his loved one back even from all this. Then the final scene shows they're still with him in spirit. God, I've been watching this video more than I'd like to admit now.
I don't know why, but there is just something about the tender way that the Star Wolf cups the Square Wolf's face right after she pulls him to his feet at the beginning that brings me to tears every time.
Boring answer: Probably because it'd be hella expensive to produce more than a 4-minute clip. But what a damn waste, right? The amount of characters they invented for the few still images in the outro alone, all that storytelling without a single word, I would watch THE SHIT out of this if it were a TV show.
I'm glad I'm literally not the only who cries watching this 😭 And it's the part at the end, right? Right when the second chorus starts? It has to be that.

The visual themes and direction are so stunning. Like the bullet flying through the neon symbols of all the living wolf pack members and the the final shape the bullet flys through is a circle- not in neon, but the exit wound it creates, for the fallen member of their group. I love how the circle was given to the fallen wolf and represents the circular nature of revenge, like what goes around comes around. I could gush for hours. It's such a great song and such fantastic animation.

@the fifth The animation director for this video - Patrick Stannard (he was also a producer on Starlight Brigade) - has also worked on Netflix's Castlevania if you want to see more animation like this. You can especially see the stylistic similarities in Star Wolf's fighting style and the way the 2 characters with claw hands use their prosthetic limbs like whips. It's really cool! 3:22 - 3:40 is my absolute favorite part of this video. Usually, a bullet entering the villain in revenge stories always feel quick and immediate. Here, we perfectly see the perspective of the Wolf with the Magnum. This Moose killed his friend. The Moose needed to feel pain. When he shot his Magnum, the Wolf's agony and grief are all poured into that single bullet. He shot that Moose with his Magnum Bullet to make him feel that pain.
@@stevenmidrano6145 Related to that, at 11:20 you can see the circle full of blood turning into square's eyes, and money becomes star's, foreshadowing this.
As someone who views fictional character creating as a part of their life. I found the ones portrayed here Expressive and able to capture the feelings of the songs intentions, and successfully project them.
An EXTREMELY underrated quality that even high production media fails to accomplish much of the time. The artists, both animators and musicians, were outstanding.
I wholeheartedly agree, in about 4 minutes you feel the pain of this triangle wolf character. From the initial anguish, to the dutiful stoicness to avenge his lover, to the final bullet and the elation of victory back full circle to unfiltered sadness over the loss. I've watched it over and over again now and that final bullet seen is so masterfully illustrated you can feel that pain in the body language and face this is so well done.

That part made me tear up.
That last magnum bullet always gets to me. Such a profound way of showing the pain of loss and how revenge can be so bittersweet.
That anguish before passing through Star and Square and hitting Moose to symbolize their revenge was complete. *[chef kiss]*
Straight up. So powerful. That vocal high note belting out, the synth searing underneath it, the expressions and the movements of that wolf guy riding the bullet. Just so dam good.
Hey everybody, this person gets it.
"When you go on a quest for revenge, first dig two graves."
Really eh? Personally, that's the only part that pulls me out of the video and go "what the hell, is this REALLY the time to display anguish and pain through interperative dance? By having little wolfie dance on the fucking MAGNUM BULLET that's gonna end Evil Space Moose?"
Other then that (and a few animation errors with gold spilling out of the suitcase then the suitcase is still locked shut in the next segment) this video is fantastic, and Knights of the Light Table have a VERY bright future in animation if they can keep to this quality of work like this and Starlight Brigade.
It doesn't matter how many times I watch this. The sequence with Triangle riding the bullet always makes me feel a wave of emotions. Phenomenal animation.

"My conscience paralyzed/against the rising tide/of haunting memories that drown a wasted life"
The harmonies Dan layers on and the meaning behind the lyrics make this line unforgettable to me.
Well said. Came to make this exact comment lol
I saw the last scene as a sadder one. His friend is still dead and the revenge didnt bring him back and he is just hit by that.
Nice analysis, I just thought people would be making furry jokes, but no, here you are bravo
And the symbolism that comes on firing the bullet, of him dancing on it, and the agony he feels, knowing that he's getting his revenge, but it won't stop his pain.
I nearly lost it when I realized gun wolf is using his SO's gun - during the scene where they find the bodies you can see the holster
Makes the whole thing a lil more poignant imo
Also may I just say Knights of the Light Table killing it again with a music video so beautiful and detailed it feels like an entire TV series?
migeeto migeeto Right?!?!? The more I study the details, the more impressed I get! It’s so sad to see how close Circle and Triangle were. The credits imply Circle might’ve used the casino winnings to buy that jacket for Triangle (the jacket had a gold price tag on it when Circle gifted it to Triangle. Gold color=winnings=gold color from Moose)
The body language between those two definitely implies they were lovers, so it breaks my heart and makes the video so powerful. All crew involved did an amazing job

- just. ALL the transitions at the start of the video, cutting between the Golden Bull and the club, and the wolves (Triangle, Star, Square) suiting up. it's all framed SO well (especially the wine tray turning into the revolver, then the revolver turning into a stripper pole)
- on that note the transitions all throughout the video are absolutely incredible
- the designs of all the characters are killer, even the background characters (like the lizard(?) at 1:51)
- "i am a different man" lining up with the shot of Triangle at the start of the video transforming into his vengeance-driven angry self
- the little spin he does as he walks towards the Bull is really cute and well animated also LMAO
- EVERYTHING about the shots where the Bull breaks Star's sword, with the sword shards reflecting Star and Square and making the whole scene super dynamic
- the MAAAAAGNUMMM BUUUULLETTSSSS bit. just. the entire shot. Triangle dancing in time with the lyrics and acting them out, then falling to his knees and screaming in anguish and the expressions and emotions are done SO WELL. plus the bullet flying through the symbols of his friends, including Circle, since he fired that bullet for them
- Triangle not even looking back to get the gold, all he wanted to do in the end was avenge Circle

Also, this is literally the first game grumps video i've ever watched. Really confused that there isn't more rocking music videos on this channel.
the channel's primarily let's play as you've probably figured out. The song was featured here because the one doing the vocals is one of the people on the channel's series.
@Ruben Martins Or Skyhill for his earlier stuff. It's also really good.
They have other channels for their music, that's why
@the fifth The animation director for this video - Patrick Stannard (he was also a producer on Starlight Brigade) - has also worked on Netflix's Castlevania if you want to see more animation like this. You can especially see the stylistic similarities in Star Wolf's fighting style and the way the 2 characters with claw hands use their prosthetic limbs like whips. It's really cool! Also the show is just really good.
check out ninja sex party
despite the name it's dan's solo channel where he puts his music and shit out
“You think the WOLF is causing the accidents?”
Good reference
No doubt in my mind
Nope wherever he fired he missed
Mark my wuff
meeyussed.
I don't know how many times I've watched this music video but I just noticed that Star Wolf's/Katana Wolf's legs are magnetically connected at the knee joint
So cool huh?
I really like the unique digital/cybernetic/robotic look of the characters.
Hehe Star Wolf. "Can't let you do that, StarFox!"
This is my 6th time in a week watching it and I keep noticing new things
it looks more like a Photon connection, like their legs are made of light.
"I only brought six bullets, so a couple of you are going to have to share."
Sounds like something Deadpool said.
Oh damn, is that from something?
Because if not, that's pretty badass.
@@SkullbombRaging If it was, I dont remember what it was from. But it definitely sounds like something someone would say in a movie just before unloading on them.
This checks all my boxes: outrun/synthwave music✅, beautiful/stylised animation✅, anthropomorphic animals✅ and Dan‘s gorgeous voice✅✅.
This is a near-perfect depiction of the online zeitgeist of the 10s
Mindblowing, in every regard. Dan's vocals in the chorus actually bring me to tears, the backing track is addictive and powerful, and the visuals are smooth and show masterful storytelling.
This is what you get when many talented forces come together.
Literally even just the bit of him screaming his anguish on the bullet is such a fucking masterpiece of art ans animation, this entire mv is insane and incredible and everytime i watch it again i get lost in it all
Dan and Synth Wave are a match blessed by the gods.
He shot that Moose with his Magnum Bullet to make him feel that pain.
that was deep as fuck man
Making sure that one bullet makes the difference and means something...
I also love how the other two collect the gold, and Wolf-Man-Dude just drops the revolver and leaves. He got what he wanted. Vengeance.
@@stevenmidrano6145 Related to that, at 11:20 you can see the circle full of blood turning into square's eyes, and money becomes star's, foreshadowing this.
In the same moment, he is overwhelmed by the realization that revenge won't bring her back.
Jesus Christ, this is "Incredible Transitions: The Movie"! Phenomenal job, everyone!
him riding the final bullet and expressing his pain as it flies is such an inspired and visceral choice.
As someone who views fictional character creating as a part of their life. I found the ones portrayed here Expressive and able to capture the feelings of the songs intentions, and successfully project them.
An EXTREMELY underrated quality that even high production media fails to accomplish much of the time. The artists, both animators and musicians, were outstanding.
ok furry
I wholeheartedly agree, in about 4 minutes you feel the pain of this triangle wolf character. From the initial anguish, to the dutiful stoicness to avenge his lover, to the final bullet and the elation of victory back full circle to unfiltered sadness over the loss. I've watched it over and over again now and that final bullet seen is so masterfully illustrated you can feel that pain in the body language and face this is so well done.
@@DirtyDoctorDan i mean, im not a furry and i agree with the ohers. Dont have to be a furry to recognize really well put together and emotive animation
This is so cool! The animation was so dynamic and clean, and the music was beautiful. Not to mention, the individual character design was gorgeous. This whole thing was visually stunning. Now I wish it was a full length story...
It really gives me starlight brigade vibes
The Prophecy has been Fulfilled
FamousHotdogs That dans a furry?
"Furrfilled"
Totally forgot this was announced
FamousHotdogs heck yeah! Ive been excited for this song to get a music video!
We all knew it was coming but I didn't expect him to be into male furries as well 🤔
I discovered this and Starlight Brigade from the references Dan made in their Sonic 2 video. These clips are absolutely gorgeous, and I wanted to leave a comment because Dan sounded so distraught about the rest of the comments.
Wait what did he say? Maybe link is to the video?
Where the link and what part?
Same man
To fill everyone else in, he was sad because there was an insane amount of effort put into the animation on this, and he was hoping Knights of the Light Table would get huge props, but the entire comment section was just "LOL DAN IS A FURRY"
@@brianmcdermott3938 Honestly using animals is a great way to show representation of personality, the only reason I didn't use an animal in my art project for cyberbullying was because the scariest thing about cyberbullies isn't that they're a monster, it's just they're another human, they could be anyone you know. In this case, it represents a lot, from the pack mentality of the wolves, seeking blood for blood, to
the regal majesty of the moose.
The way the bullet carries all of his emotions is heartbreaking. I love this song so much.
Every single stance is like another stage of his journey playing out on that bullet.
In awe of her -> Dancing with her -> Giving his heart to her -> Losing her -> The pain of her loss -> Leaning back on his knees: total surrender to what's happening -> Then when he leans up again: "I'm coming for you", inevitable victory.
Fucking incredible!
@@Amaroq64 Actually I think it was said that the Circle wolf was also a boy
Did anyone else notice in the credits scenes the news reel in the back ground? Circle was wanted for setting a casino on fire.
I noticed that! I think it said "suspected" link to the casino fire? But from the first image of the credits, it almost seems like Circle won the money, but was framed and killed to get that money back? Either way, it's a cool detail!
Could’ve been framed.
Oh hey. good possibility.
I think this whole video is showing a conflict between gangs of some sort.
the sheer depth of emotion of the thing on that bullet gets me every time.....
"I'm the dancing vengeful wolf! I'm the one that shoots!"
