Hi welcome to “This Should Be an Actual Show”
Vaultron really changed over the years
It's called tengen toppa gurren lagann, you should watch it, it's basically this as a show
Tenia toppa gurran laggan is like this but, this would be a awesome anime to watch if it were one
Tengen*
Well he did used to host show pilots for Mondo so...give them a ring?
Holy crap... that was amazing!
Markiplier most perfect animation for what is probably the most perfect song.
I don't like the song at all. The visuals are nice.
RIGHT?!
Markiplier hell yeah it was
Hi Mark
Why in the seven hells of Washington D.C. was this never made into a series from 1984 to 1987, ending with an unsatisfactory cliffhanger, a movie in 1989 with an epic soundtrack that answers nothing, and a revival film in 2008 that didn't capture the feel of the original, only for the Fandom to make an earth-shattering free-to-view movie in 2012 that's entirely computer-graphic'd but with the appearance of proper cell shaded animation, and the surviving voices of the original cast, minus two who tragically passed away already?
Oddly specific but I vibe with it
By the gods, you nailed it so hard the wall of my kitchen just crumbled.
@@ragnarvankarel6139 I have an extra toaster and a coffee machine for ya.

the only aspect you're forgetting is when they did the fanmade movie one of the voice actors no longer sounds like the character anymore and people complained about it online for a few years but then everyone came to sympathize and respect a dedication to carry on working despite no longer having the voice and people start defending it instead.
I have never wanted an animated series to exist so badly before

I'm heartbroken that this is only a four minute video, the retro anime was an amazing choice for visuals.
ONLY a 4 minute video? BBBBBBITCH. YOU KNOW HOW LONG ANIMATION TAKES? AND DID YOU SEE THE QUALITY OF THE ANIMATION?
Plankton-Sama I think they meant it more in the tone of “this was so good that, after 4 minutes, I’m jonesin’ for more.”
@@plankton-sama260 WAHHHH I KNOW, BUT I WANT MOAR, I DEMAND A SERIES DAMMIT, IM A NEEDY BITCH. (seriously tho, i am completely blown away at how beautifully done this was.)

I wish this could be an anime series...
"Can I stand by while the world dies?" "I'd gladly give my life for one night as a justice acolyte." "Halfway between the Black and Grey is no place for a life to waste away" "No fate but that of which we make, noble as the oath we undertake" I love the whole song! It just hits all the buttons.
"No fate but that of which we make" is blatantly stolen from Terminator 2, but other than that, yeah good stuff
@@epsilon6516 I promise you, it's _much_ older than that. "It's all been done before," and all that.
@@epsilon6516 oh so blatantly stolen, only possibility, that phrase was never once thought of before the gospel that is terminator 2. 😂😂 thank you for the chuckle, good joke.

You know, I’ve never looked up the lyrics, but I puzzled them all out through repeated listenings; all except one. I never knew he was saying “justice acolyte” there. Thank you for making my understanding of the song more complete ❤️
three years on, i still get super emotional at the bit where the brightest star he was following was his own reflection... so fucking powerful
Omggg I never noticed that! Now I'm crying! 😭
broooo i never noticed that either oml, and his realization and all that omg
(scrolls further down a screen or two) ah heck someone else already pointed that out like an entire year ago XD
...and I would have edited that into my original reply but YT is being dumb and wouldn't allow it
Ninja Brian's ship doesn't have controls,
it just knows better.
No, it has controls. Controls that are SWORDS, apparently.
It does have controls, they're just based off of slight variations in his intense staring 👀👀👀
(captain america voice) i understood that reference
POPO!
Ninja Brian = Mr. Popo
I like to think Ninja Brian pilots his ship with nothing but how intense his expression is.
Me too.
I mean...
THOSE EYES ,DEAR LORD
Or his middle finger
He powers it with his own rage, and controls it with his bloodlust
Actually, he cheats with foot pedals
I'M SORRY BUT NOW THAT I AM AWARE OF THIS BEAUTIFUL EXISTENCE I CANNOT STOP LAUGHING AT NINJA BRIAN'S EXPRESSION. I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE
Every time I come back to this I think "Surely it wasn't THAT amazing, I must be remembering it wrong." Then 4 minutes and 8 seconds later I have full body chills, tears on my face, and a hole in my wall where I punched it out of sheer joy.
This song inspired me to quit my job that didn’t live up to my moral standard and change the course of my life. The line, “Today, so many moons away, I safely say, that my heart’s true calling was never betrayed,” was calling me out. Much love to TWRP, Dan and The Knights of the Light Table for forcing me to to have some perspective and live up to my own ideals.
Why are you making me cry like this? This song portrays so many emotions and power and is a treasure.
Good on you, man!
I don't have a calling, don't have a direction, no team, no skills.
Drifting without a starship.
@Kamike Serpentail You have the starlight within, my friend. As do we all. Your starship is a glorious vessel; all you need to do is turn the key. You have everything you think you lack. It's all waiting for you to discover. Just you wait until you find that spark, that inner starlight--and watch as the cosmos is lit ablaze!
Hoping that everything is going awesome for you!!!
It has to be known that only eight people created this almost 4 minute masterpiece of animation (according to the credits).
EIGHT. PEOPLE.

I counted around 18 people that worked towards the final product

Came here to watch it after reading the Twitter post, I just want to say it again after watching ..... CROWDFUND THIS!!
What did the Twitter post say??
@qwertysub2038 They wanted to make Starlight Brigade into a full series. They had a few close calls, but studios turned them down so they don't have hopes it would be made. In away this music video was like a pilot episode. I hope people like them come to realize you don't need to deal with a big Studio that will easily shoot down a series because we have ____ all ready. If people online click with it enough, crowd fund it.
@@AlkseeyaKCOh man that’s devastating. As much as I would also want them to go without the need for a big studio it’s quite hard to accomplish that as well. They probably needed a lot more people and a bigger budget which is hard to get with only the 8 of them that worked on this music video. I have to wonder though, did they ever reach out to Adult Swim? I do remember that channel showcasing this music video a couple of years back?
I like giving the character's dad the voice of Dan's actual dad.

A like and reply. ._.> I salute you Sir Neco.
Love the homage to Pink Floyd's album art at 3:20, this video is like a shot on nostalgia directly into my bloodstream.
Speaking of nostalgia, Danny's ship kind of reminds me of 'Flight of the Navigator'... specifically the shape changing and the control scheme.
It lines up with the lyrics "dark side battle cries" too
You know what they say, "Nostalgia is one hell of a drug. And I want the world's whole supply."
Love the homage to experiments done in 1672 by Isaac Newton at 3:20, this video is like a shot of morphine directly into my humors.
Dude, their ships bursting through the enemy space station and their exhaust looking like a light going through a prism MAKES this already super sick animation for me!
The space aesthetic, the 80s vibe… absolutely masterful. Y’all should team up with Savant to produce the ultimate VHS vibe of a track
Especially when you realize that the image is found a t-shirt.
Somewhat tempting to pull it up on my old laptop that has a TV-out socket and dub it to tape in all honesty. Then leave it somewhere to be found and confuse the absolute hell out of whoever finds and plays it.
Second this but get Carpenter Brut to give advice but only advice.
My theory is that Ninja Brian has no Controls. He just squints at different level and the ship knows to obey
ManicMethod But that’s just a theory a film theory
@Anto That implies those aren't just actual katanas lying around in the cockpit.
"POPO!" "Oh wow, your name opens the ship?" "POPO!" "And closes it too?" "No, it just knows better."
Lol reminds me of that scene with popo and bulma in DBZ abridged, "oh the ship is voice controlled?"
"POPOOOOO"
The ship yeets backs to earth in seconds
"No it just knows better"
I figure foot controls. That could have been an interesting idea for the character, where his arms are paralyzed, so he does everything with his feet. That would have been why the drummer-bot waved to him, the drummer-bot was his hands back at the base. Unfortunately, his arms moved in the scene where everyone was getting in their ships

When they told this kid to 'reach for the stars', he literally took it to literal heart.
Strive saves the universe by reaching for the stars - and this is the really important part - not by actually touching them. He only ever touches the stars in a dream/vision.
It is the striving, in and of itself, that changes everything.
Grandfather: _"NO NOT THAT FAR!!"_
One thing I finally noticed, after Goodness knows how many viewings, is that after the shot injures Twinky Elf Dan, the star he reaches for is revealed to be the one visible from his weird chest crystal. Since they were chasing the stars, he was quite literally following his heart.

Lyrics:
When I look up at the sky, what meets my eyes?
Can I just stand by while the world dies?
(While the world dies)
A starship idling nearby, is it my time?
I crawl inside and turn the cockpit clockwise, toward the sunrise
I hear a voice in the back of my head
Screaming "this is suicide! Did you hear what I said?"
But then it fades into nothing with the rest of the light and sound
I'm on my way out!
Lift off!
The firestorm ignites
Last thoughts of a life by candlelight
Inside this speeding satellite
Today, so many moons away
I safely say
We stand as one
A bond beyond the vast wave, until the last grave
The mission orders typed and lights up our screens
Ignition flights
A thousand minds move simultaneously
Into the night a fleet of firelight jet engines scream
Turn the key
This is my destiny!
Last flight!
I'd gladly give my life for one night as a justice acolyte
Light shines only for the blind
Escape the endless dream of space, black seas that I can't navigate
Locate the great Starlight Brigade
Starlight within will guide us to the other side
Lift off!
The firestorm ignites
Last thoughts of a life by candlelight
Inside this speeding satellite
Halfway between the black and gray
Is no place for a life to waste away
I'll take the road with all the stakes (Starlight Brigade)
Black knights and dark side battlecries
All die once they're in my line of sight
This fight is all I know that's right (whoa yeah)
No fate but that of which we make
Noble as the oath we undertake
We are the great Starlight Brigade!
(Starlight Brigade)

There is something in all of us that is exactly this. I hope one day we can all grasp it and pull it fully into our hearts.
on that day, man will truly fly.
I've realised the genius of this, and why so many people have the uncanny feeling it's like a pilot for an amazing show that only ever came to air in an alternative universe ... it's because it's cut like an AMV. And certainly myself and more than a few of us here will have consumed a good few of those and know the feeling caused by a perfectly edited meld of pivotal, highly emotionally charged, action packed (...or just humorous) scenes from an already beloved anime, and a killer piece of music that encapsulates the mood set by the visuals.
And there's at least a couple of great shows, and a couple of great bands, that I've been introduced to through that medium, browsing through what people have made for one or the other, or just at random. And coming across this video evokes that emotional memory.
So, maybe the show we've discovered through this virtual AMV isn't real, but at least the band is...
(This came to me in the scene where they make the first attack and Strive's ship gets hit by a shot from the baddies; I had been playing the tune in the background whilst working, as is the way I normally have RUclips music going, and just happened to close a tab such that this came to the front a little before that, and I therefore wasn't fully into the visual rhythm.
It struck me that if it was an actual movie, or a scene from an episodic show, it would have all played out a _lot_ slower, with interstitial dialogue and moments of dramatic suspense. But as there was a need to both tell a certain chunk of the story within the limited time allowed by the music (yes, I know it's edited down as well due to the ironically appropriate budgetary constraints), and to keep to the beat, most of that was edited out in jumpcut fashion, retaining just the most important and memorable parts, bringing maybe a two minute segment down to... [spins back to check] ...approximately five seconds. Eight if you want to be generous.
Which is VERY AMV-ish, particularly for anything that covers a large swath of or even the entirety of a 13-episode show or 90-minute film (never mind anything longer!) with fast paced music over the top. But then the star-chasing part and the renewing of their internal fire is arguably uncut from the "original"... Which again rather puts me in mind of an actual Nausicaa or maybe just multi-classic-Ghibli (looking at you Laputa) video that I once saw. Pick and choose what to spin through quick without actually cutting so you can include that slower moment in full.
Kinda get the same feeling from the Rudo animated videos for Siamés' tunes too. Be fun to see a four-way collab between the two studios and two bands...)
i never noticed that, youre so right! even keeping in mind the time and budget constraints, i cant think of another animated music video ive seen that was cut like this, other than AMVs. everything feels like theres less breathing room, even the moments that are slower. it really does feel like something larger that had all the fat trimmed so only the most important and flashy stuff remained. its super cool, and honestly impressive they pulled it off so well without there being a preexisting show people already know, so they cant rely on fans already being familiar with the story, they have to land it on their own. its probably why they used such a familiar story structure (aside from it matching the lyrics), it makes it way easier for us to follow
I dunno. It reminds me more of Daft Punk's Interstella.

One of my favorite things in this video is that you barely got a glance at each character, but you got the entire personallity understood. The other 5 of the crew have so much personallity without uttering a single word.
For example, at 1:40, the samurai ninja snake guy on the left draws out his knife. Such a tiny detail gives him so much more personallity, showing that he's keen and skilled, but also won't back down from a fight. Fantastic!
And does it _fast_ ... like I think it's basically one frame - no knife, next frame - possibly a flash of light or movement, third frame - knife.
Plus whilst they're flying through the realm of pure _nothing_ at the heart of the enemy tetrahedron, that little bead of sweat ... showing that he can feel fear, or at least anxiety, just normally keeps it under perfect control. But this time a tiny bit leaked out... things must be really intense.
His name is Space Ninja Brian, which I personally think makes it even better
@@markpenrice6253 The only other time he has a little bead of sweat like that, and you have to look cause it goes by fast is when Strife's ship gets shot and starts falling.

It’s sets up a nice being, have characters that you can somewhat tell their personalities of from how they react to certain situations, the connections they share with each other, the antagonist of the story, an underlying theme, and a nice ending that people can get behind.

I love how you can seamlessly go from the pure off the wall humor of NSP, to the sheer epicness of TWRP, into something like Magnum Bullets and its all Danny. This song hits that perfect vibe that brings the dreams of childhood back and somehow is still so epic that the adult side of me gets pumped up about it. I love this music.
I would unironically binge this if it was a series
Me too
We all would.
I definitely agree dude. this would be a binge watchable series. hell if it had 10 seasons I would watch all of it in a week flat.
agreed

3:19 nice Dark Side of the Moon visual reference
The Voltron nod a few seconds later is on par, as well.
They sang it at the same time too, very cool
that was so cool (and they said "dark side" !!)
I will blink and be 50 and I would love to see a Star Light Brigade series or mini-series. This was the kind of scifi/fantasy stuff I grew up on in the 80s and I still love it today! I hope you guys get a chance to expand upon this!
I come back to this a few times a year and still, to this day, wish this could have been picked up for 6 seasons and a movie. The song is fantastic, but the animation and what we get of the story line just begs for elaboration. It's just so good. I want to know more about this universe and the races of beings within it.
The animation is absolutely gorgeous! Hope Danny cosplays his elfsona someday
And Arin as this guy: 1:18
Dan Elfidan
@@peachesplease5461 that's Doctor Sung though
@@peachesplease5461 i didn't even notice that the first time. So cute!
Papi Potassium You right. I just think if Dan were to cosplay as Dan Elfidan Arin would get jealous and want to go as someone from the video too 😂
To the couple that I met in the hospital elevator that told me about this band, thank you.
My god. Best encounter.

Is that a “Crumch” profile picture? I worship you.
@RarelyReplies Welcome new sexy person! We have kickass music and unbridled encouragement!
Welcome to TWRP! I eternally thank... actually an Irish author who inadvertently had me meet my best friends who got me into Game Grumps who got me into NSP who got me into TWRP. Thanks Derek Landy I guess!
Anyway, yes, this is excellent, and I wish you the best of luck with whyever you were in hospital, for yourself or another. Hope it's all better now. Unless you work there, in which case good luck in general!
I have seen TWRP many times live. They deserve all the success they get. Not only are they ridiculous musicians, they came out to talk to everyone after the show at every show I have been to. Good dudes.
Coming back to this kind of videos with little over a year of practice drawing, I am able to see details that i didn't even notice the first time around, and it makes watching even more enjoyable now. I still have a long way to go, but boy does this inspire me to keep going!
How can I not trust the starlight brigade? One of them has a PhD.
That's why he was sweating when they broke thru and went warp speed. He was the only one who truly knew the danger they were in.
Fun fact, every single member of the Starlight Brigade has a PhD, but it stands for something entirely different for each of them.
That would be Danny, with his Pretty Huge Dick. He does sing about it alot.
It's Brian. Brian has a PhD.

I discovered this by total chance and I'm totally loving it, may any superior entity bless the people who made this, keeping bad things at bay.
Thank you very much!
Theory: The main character is one of Danny sexbang's distant descendants born from his many space sexcapades
I beileve that.
And ninja brian is immortal and helping her.
Not even a theory, just a fact
I assume he was born in the year 6969

Absolutely
This song is just so powerful and inspiring. Can’t stop listening. Love TWRP, so bummed I missed them in Seattle last week.
To this day, i dont know if this is the case, but I've always felt they made these characters to resemble a Saturday morning cartoon from the 80's (and i am 100% here for it)
Alright, lets see if this song is any go...

Honestly not a huge fan of the vocals, but I'll be jamming out to the instrumental for sure

TWRP smooth Rhythm and jams
Ninja Brian: PURE MALICE

as an animation student, every time i feel stuck, or like everything is too much, i play this video and feel my chest burst with joy and child like wonder, and remember why i'm doing all of this. i aspire to make someone feel the way this piece of art makes me feel, every second makes my hair stand on end and my eyes sparkle
"Halfway between the black and grey is no place for a life to waste away" is great
Thank you so much TWRP for the adventure and the memories. Our team were amazing and everyone at Knights of the Light Table brought their everything to bring this together. So proud to have worked on Starlight with you!
You guys did a phenomenal job! Blew my mind when I saw how small the team was.
I didn't realize I was watching some anime when i clicked on this video amazing job guys!
This is on another level! The hard work that you and everyone at Knights did really paid off. Hand drawn, million frame animation seemed to be a dying art and I'm so glad you guys went with this style.
Like, and I say this with 0 offense to TWRP & co., the music was secondary to this holy shitballs animated short!!
I watched your stream... Sadly not live. But I was captivated by the character.. But never did I know how wonderfully it would be animated... Absoloutly f.. ING fantastic job. I'm in awe of your group. Def got a new fan here. And the Band.. Well awesome as always. Can you animate star bombs regreatroid lol?
Guys.... tears of joy here no kidding!!!, that was soooo beautiful!!!! RUclips music have recommended me this band and every day I enjoy they're song more and more! Greetings from Brazil!!!!
Years later and this song and music video still gives me chills. It is a masterpiece.
Eight people animated this. *Only **_EIGHT_*
the amount of people doing the animating means little if time isn't an issue. It can make things turn out better overall sometimes because you have an inherently more unified vision of what you are working towards.
It's the perfect number if you ask me. Enough to prevent burnout, but not enough to cause a too many cooks scenario.
Rip to thier wrists
I wish I could animate like this hopefully I’ll get there someday
@@PixelaGames2000 start a project, complete it, analyze what mistakes or deficiencies your work has, and aim to have advanced a notable step with your next project.
The old Madness flash series (which is still ongoing!) did exactly that. You can see a VERY clear progression in quality and effort between each video during the first ten or so. and even after the increase between vids drops off (or perhaps becomes more subtle) later vids continue to come up with new bits here and there that are clear to see.
Story, sound, choreography, framerate, detail.
You will definitely be able to reach this level with time and effort, but be sure to complete your projects to avoid a habit of leaving things undone.

0:46 Strive's handprint is on the black object before it transforms into a spacecraft. After it transforms, some water falls down from the spacecraft's tail.
1:24 Havve Hogan hits his drumsticks in sync with the music.
1:32 Judging by his hand movements, this character probably tells our heros to hit the barrier with their spacecrafts and they do so at 2:07
1:39 This is a miniature figurine of the spaceship our heroes are currently in. We saw this spaceship at 1:26
2:20 This might be the same star we saw at the beginning of the video. 0:09
Ooh! That handprint was so cool to see! Thanks for all the tidbits!
I don't think 2:20 is the same star. Actually to be more accurate, I think he was seeing the star within his heart, because as the light faded, it was his reflection he saw the light within there. I think the star he was reaching for at the beginning of the video WAS the ship that crashed and he took it within his heart when he activated it. He had the starlight within him the whole time!
@@Piemur1That star and all the other stars were absorbed by the dark prism when Strive was a child.
@@MercurySteel Yeah, but I like to think that the enemy prism ships probably contain a star to power them and when one of them crash landed on his planet that was the same ship. It all seems to be the same material, right?
@@Piemur1 Reflecting on it now, the object that crashed does resemble an enemy spacecraft. While you're likely right about that aspect, the video doesn't provide any evidence indicating that the spaceships contain stars within them. However, you're free to interpret it as a personal headcanon.
This song is so important to me. I came across it by chance right after I unexpectedly scored my dream job at the time: working at a huge science museum. I listened to it along with other TWRP songs on the way to work most days and that was how I celebrated my success and encouraged myself to enjoy every moment and give it all my effort. Now, I've moved on to another, even bigger dream: becoming a pilot. I've been in flight school for a month, and when reconnecting with this song recently, I realized the spaceship Strive (the "main character" of the animated video) finds looks just like a sci-fi version of the airplane I happen to fly, the Diamond DA-20 (look it up, hopefully you'll see what I mean). And when I took my first flight in it, I felt just like I was experiencing the start of my own "Starlight Brigade" journey.
Follow your dreams, people. They're calling you for a reason.
Amen to that. And congratulations on your journey !
That's amazing, we can see the similarity to the Diamond, wow! That's so cool you're becoming a pilot!
Now I want 6 seasons and a movie of this!
Amazing job you guys!
