I like the idea of setting your tightness once and have it consistently that tight. I don't mind ratchet straps, but having it always the same tightness when you strap in is nice.

Thanks for taking the time to do a follow up video for a very thorough review! Took mine out for the first time last week at The Boat. They're pretty awesome as I'm a wide around the middle fellow. Agree with the getting out part at the bottom of the lift but I think also agree with @TT430 who mentioned the heel lift to get out. Great vids dude appreciate the hard work! Keep 'em comin!

I consider myself to be a raw beginner after being out of the sport for somewhere around 20 to 25 years. That is a long time and I'm not as limber as I used to be. Found out, really quickly, that traditional bindings are very difficult for me to execute now. I'm not sure footed or practiced enough to accomplish strapping in while standing, yet. Sitting down and strapping in exhausted me by mid day along with the 10 or so times that I fell while getting my very poor skills back into barely competent form. Fortunately, for my season going forward, my ancient TechNine bindings had a screw strip out and parts are not available. So I bought a set of these Supermatics last night. Just setting them up and practicing with them in my house, I know these are a game changer for me. I can't see a scenario that will ever have me going back to manual bindings.

Nice cross over with Nidecker/Flow since Nidecker now owns Flow. Definitely see the similar appearance of a Flow Hybrid strap on this Nidecker set up. Interesting, none the less.
Yeah, the inspiration from after they aquired Flow is certainly there. I was never a fan of the Flows tho, TBH.
I agree with Justin. I would also try just lifting your heel instead of lifting your entire leg. Also, Thanks for the tip on middle strap. I had trouble at times too. I just checked my set up. And Sure enough, it wasn’t all the way loose. Thanks for the great content! Keep it up!

@@BoredProgression Not locking it is the main issue I had with my Flow bindings. If you don't lock them, you'll end up ratcheting them one or two more times by accident when getting out and making it impossible to get back in smoothly the next time. Since figuring that out it immediately changed my opinion on them and made me enjoy them all the more.
Love skiing with boarders with step ons! No more having the snow melt as you strap in lol!

I just rode my Supermatics for four days @ PowMow. Everyday got better. When stepping out of them, press the release while lifting your leg out at the same time and it’s a lot smoother. I also noticed I didn’t need them as tight as my other bindings. Great channel and videos man. As an East Coaster, I love Utah and have been going once a year for 11 yrs. Maybe we’ll link up one day.

@@BoredProgression Extra tip, lift legs with the feeling of kneel-down will help a lot. Lift heel most, push tip toe, kneel down, and you will feel the pad of heel lifting up and back board falling
I will stick to my bent metal jamie lynns just because of...but this binding will get onto my kids boards - this is so convenient !!

1 min it and I'm happy to see him try these out again. I think some of these youtube guys try it once and don't use it properly, don't like it, and never try them again. Even if he hates them, its good to see him give them another shot with some adjustments.

First run of the day I always get em dialed in since the bindings have a tendency to tighten up during transport despite the "lockout" feature. I also ride a couple different boots so the proper fit really does need to be set up at the start of your first run. After that you can pretty much lock it in and fly through the rest of the day. I probably got an extra 30 laps last season and despite their weight they felt more like a traditional strap in than any step in binding I've ever ridden.

Sweet! Thanks dude! Yeah they’re the same, to my knowledge but they have an XL size available now & I think that’s the only difference.
I can slip into my Supermatics right as I'm getting off the chair lift by slipping my foot partially in right before getting off the lift and when I hit the ground I'm snapped in. Easy peasy and I have been doing this for several months now. The only thing I had an issue with was the screw an get loose sometimes on the backside through multiple uses so keep a pocket knife on you with a Philips head on it and monitor it occasionally or they can come apart. This way my experience on the first year model, so maybe Nidecker has addressed this for year 2 of these new bindings.

When you go to lock it, pinch the lock and pull on the strap at the same time to properly seed it against the teeth. If you di it right the binding should remain properly configured throughout the day meaning they won't tighten up on you making exit and entry super consistent

How are they on a powder day, dropping in a steep slope with no flat spots?

If you like having tight straps it helps a lot to keep pressure on your heel when you push the release lever down, then keep it held down while you lift your heel. Don't try to push & lift at the same time because it applies pressure on the internal ratchet mechanism.
How do I lift my heel while keeping pressure down on it?
Once the lever is down you should lift your heel, but if you lift your heel while trying to depress the lever you increase the resistance in the release mechanism. Practice on some carpet - just push your heel down at the same time as you push the lever down, then lift your heel while you continue to hold the lever down.

I was convinced and ordered the Supermatic but in my local board store they recommended the Union Force or Burton Mission instead (they did not test the Supermatic though, only flow bindings).
For „All Mountain“ Purpose (more or less like in your video). After reading and watching a lot of reviews I estimated the Supermatic being like the force also a great Allrounder with the benefit of the the quick entry.
Would you agree or buy the Force 2024 for having a better overall performance?
If you really want the quick entry then supermatics. If you want best performing, best feeling bindings and don’t mind straps, get the union forces. I wouldn’t recommend burton missions tho.
Not even the same category. Standard high end bindings are always going to perform better
My guess is if you have trouble getting out, you can also use the straps to unbuckle, then push the button and pop up the high back then just buckle the straps back up and have the binding ready to step in on your way back up.

Had to update my impressions on these! After getting the @NideckerSnowboards Supermatics dialed in properly, they performed SIGNIFIGANTLY better. Are they enough to make a die-hard strap fan switch? 🤔
I've heard that these bindings are much heavier than your typical strap binding. Do you feel that has affected your riding at all? Strongly considering getting these.
@@RynoSnow They are slightly heavier, but I wouldn't call it significant. I got used to them after a run or 2 and I would say my riding wasn't effected at all. We're only talking a couple of grams heavier than most bindings. I do think a few years from now they'll be lighter as the tech gets better.

Thanks! Really hard to pick one. Depends on your riding ability and terrain preferences. I like the bird a lot but it’s mostly steep cliffy advanced terrain.

If you like your straps wrenched down really tight and cant compromise on that, these bindings are never going to perform for you. The first review I watched on these were by a British instructor / reviewer based out in France and he had spent 6 weeks on these bindings before making his review. In a follow up review he summarized by saying that if you like your binding super tight and cant adjust to a looser fit then these arent going to be for you. That said hes obviously a serious and talented rider and he gets in and out of them with ease.
I would agree. I got them about 80-90% to the “maximum tightness” I’m used to. Now would I get used to that? Idk. Each person’s answer will probably be different.

@@yeetlord_3460 Its sole purpose is just to keep the toe and ankle straps in the optimum postion for strapping in. I have my toe and ankle straps set just as tight as I did with my traditionals and 3rd strap set very loose. No trouble whatsoever getting in and out. the only slight issue I have is I think I bought the wrong colour. I have black binding, black boots, a black top sheet and dodgy vision. When I look down to step everything is slightly out of focus in I cant actually see where Im putting my foot lol. that said still super easy to step in and out.
One question regarding the performance. If we would compare the well known Union Force as an anchor point with the Supermatic regarding the All Mountain Performance (like in the video). How big would be the difference?
Because if the Force is only a little bit better but you have the quick entry with the Supermatic it could be worth it. But if the performance is a lot better, better strap in.
So on a scale from 1-10 regarding the overall All Mountain Performance. How would you rate this two bindings?
You can’t rotate the high backs on the Supermatics and they are slightly heavier than Forces. If those 2 things don’t bother you then they are very similar in performance.
I have flows and I like them real tight, so I always have to loosen the strap before putting my feet in. Will I have the same problem with those?
I don’t think so. As long as you keep the middle strap loose you can have the toe & ankle pretty tight.
Funny how people mention you have to fiddle with them. For a moment switch sides. Imagine supermatics were the original binding. Strap ins as we know them require constant fiddling which exceeds even the supermatics. Not to mention I am 50 and bending over to strap in makes me feel like I just ran a fucking mile!
Good point. But I can get straps consistently where I want them, 100% every time I strap in. Even if it takes a little longer to strap in. Fiddling w/ the supermatics is more frustrating, I think, because it's not so guaranteed to have that perfect fit, even if it's quicker.
@@BoredProgression my problem is bending over and my gut lol. Strapping in makes me literally have to take a break because I struggled to breathe while strapping in ha. I could lose 30lbs or I buy these haha.
Honestly I refer the Clew bindings in comparison with those. Easier to step-in off and you can have a second base for your second board so you don't need to change your entire bindings when swapping between boards

Yup, and as a person with a bigger gut, I don't have to bend down nearly as far to release. Glad I got the CLEWs
Stepping back into the clews definitely seems easier and quicker to do since with the supermatics you’ll need to make sure the high back is folded back and open. But with the clew I don’t like the idea of having the bar under the boot, especially when you go to walk around the resort on a harder surface other than snow.
@@LtSHAKEnBAKE You dont walk around the resort with the high back on, you unstrap and walk in your boots like any other binding. The only time I keep the high back on is if I'm one footing it or walking up the mountain to reach back country.

can you adjust them easily, im use to loosen my binding while riding the chairlifts
Just about as easy as any traditional strap binding. You cannot rotate the highback tho, so you're stuck with them lined up with the baseplate. I don't rotate mine, so this didn't bother me.
Did you have a chance to test getting into these in deep powder?
I did. And they were the same experience as groomers. Gotta clear out the snow a little but no more than any normal binding.
And if in a tight spot in powder just use the straps like a normal binding.

Correct. If you don’t like the highback parallel with the baseplate you’re out of luck right now. Maybe the next version will address that.

Yeah, I would. Especially if you ride allover the mountain and are not a park rat.

His helmet is a Poc helmet they don’t make anymore and the goggles are Sandbox Kingpin polarized.
Does it work on the new Burton channel?
Absolutely.
Reaching around the back to unclip is still bending over, I wonder if you can unclip with your other foot ?
I tried that once or twice. It kinda worked for getting the second foot out. I think with more practice it can get easier.
I’m an athletic 61 yr old but the range of motion in one of my hips is not good. I didn’t like the super matics because the release lever is so far down on the binding. For that reason I get why some like the clews. On my third day of riding the supermatics one broke and I had to go back to my old flows. Luckily Back Country gave me a full refund. IMO I think the flows are easier to get out of.
That makes sense. I did find that the bending down to unclip them sometimes was more difficult than I think it should be. You had one break on the 3rd day??
@@BoredProgression yeah, I was in a lot of powder, and it was extremely cold at wolf creek. I didn’t think I was using too much force, but The plastic broke close to the latch mechanism.
This is a really interesting review. I’ve ridden Flows for years and can strap in and out on drag lifts, flats etc so not sure where these will improve my day. I think bending all the way down to reach the clasp will be much harder rather than the back of the high backs on my flows.
Am I the only one that like SP Private? I used this bindings on my Capita Doa for two seasons now and before I use Flow and thought they was heavy and not fits as good.🙃

Can you buy one only,? I mean why carry the extra weight of having 2 when you only really want the step on for your back foot.
😂. Good point! But the weight would be unbalanced and the ride would feel different on your front and back feet most likely.
I tried and tried them and tried to enjoy them (for this whole season!) but I got to say, don't believe the hype. Maybe I was too stoked, maybe me or my boots aren't right but exiting is really tough for me. I even watched all the videos and tried all the tips and ticks and more (waking them.). I have to pull so hard I pull my foot and sock out of the boot and have to refit. Seldom could I get a full step in and out for the same run. I finely tried swapping them on the other foot as they actually work better that way for me but are still a pain to exit. The release handles and strap release should be on the same side. The strap locks should be removed. I really so want them to work but they are on my rock board now. Really you need a pole, tree or partner nearby to step in and out as they do in the videos. You can see they don't show the full entrance and exit with someone standing up alone in all the videos. I should have notice that. And I found them to lock up or not lock with real CO pow pow snow. I could not escape and would fall over. The handle need more length and give. The mechanics need to be shielded better from snow. Especially if you have to bail. I saw guys with the burtons and the other steps in (I plan to try) without issue as I was struggling in the same stuff on multiple occasions where I had to good old school with the straps. That is a problem too as they don't unlock well and don't open completely. So so bummer, I want the dream and for me no joy. Back to my Now good and faithful's for now.
Have you tried the CLEW Step-Ons? If you haven't I would suggest giving them a go. I have had Burtons, System MTN and CLEW's. By a WIDE margin I prefer the CLEW.

@@BoredProgression Funny...but I bet I sold at least two pair if not more at Telluride two weeks ago. EVERYONE kept asking me about them. I was stepping in them right off the lift and the expressions were priceless. To me the one of the best features is that you can mount bases to multiple boards and switch boards in seconds.
maybe they could make a $500 version with lighter/stronger materials, like Switch's many versions back in the day
Yeah I think the technology will get lighter and better as time goes on. That’s the way innovation usually goes. 🤞
Will it break fast ?
I don’t think so. They seem very sturdy and have been in development R&D for 4 years before releasing them.

Have to say I hate straps and always have. I've ridden on one version of step in or another since the late 90s.
Glad to see we are still getting innovation and I've pre ordered the '24 Supermatics.
Perhaps one day a standard step in will emerge. Then again it took skiing about 6000 years to evetually come to the alpine standard binding! 😂

It’s a very sturdy build. You can tell in person. They refined them supposedly for 4 years before releasing them so I think they’re solid. But I guess only time will tell how they hold up after a few seasons.
Wide ass boots and super tight straps are reportedly always gonna be an issue with these. However I don’t think those are the only limiting factors.
I’m riding Burton motos and those are not wide boots…I don’t think I crank down my bindings super tight….and these are a huge pain in the ass. I don’t think you can enjoy these without compromising on tightness. They don’t work as intended….they only work as intended if you adjust your preferences to what makes it easy to use these bindings.
For what they cost, they should just work plain and simple and they don’t. It’s annoying and disappointing.
Also, if you’re stepping in on anything but a totally flat surface, good luck. You basically have to put your foot in the exact right way and do it the same every time to have these be consistently convenient. Otherwise, they’re super annoying and inconsistent
Dang. Yeah, do they even still make those?
They are easier to step in on totally flat ground but when it's a hill I just kick a platform into the snow like I do with strap bindings or just point the board downhill and step in as soon as I start moving forwards. It took about a day to build the muscle memory to get in and out of these bindings first time every time.
Hard carving is how I like to ride most of the time and so I like my straps on the tighter side but not arch flattening insane like some riders. I get the impression sometimes that some riders are compensating for poor boot fit with overly tight straps.
Feels like the park board threw you off.
First time riding it, and it’s much softer than the Darkside so took a few laps to get used to. Loving it tho!
Read their website and you will find that you had the wrong sized bindings for your boot, the L bindings only goes up to size 9.5
That sizing is new for this season. Until this fall they didn’t make anything bigger than L.
Will not have the problem with release on the clew no matter how tight you crank the straps
But you will look like a skier skating/walking around with a clunky plastic thing on your foot. 😂

I think Burton has this "tech" figured out with their Step On. Faster to lock/unlock, lighter and more responsive than this or a strap binding.
Idk about that. I’ll give em a shot tho.
I've owned the stepons since their second season and they're great, but I appreciate that these let you choose your boots.
Burton system is great but the need for specific Burton boots is a problem. My foot shape does not really suit any Burton boot I've tried so not an option for me. I love the Supermatics due to them being standard for any boot.

@@ammakko Very true. Not available in any of the shops anywhere near where I live so not an option for me.
With that kind of ratchet. You can not slam(or even drop) your board on the gound or doing one footed stomp(18:52) to shed snow. You'll need to put the board on the ground gently. Otherwise the position will move.
The same thing happened to my Flows.
Not true. As I mentioned there’s a lock on the ladders. I only failed to remember to lock them. They won’t budge unless you unlock them.
@@BoredProgression My Flow has the lock, which is exactly the same as the one on the nidecker, too but they still move if I drop the board from holding height.
that explains why my flows kept being impossible to get into at the top of the run.. but how do u clear the snow without slamming the board?
@@AA_OnTheEdge Have to say I've never had the ratchet strap move once locked in. For now after 15 days on them they are still solid and never move.

Burton step ons are superior
Being limited to boots that only are made for them is… limiting. Not a fan of the way Burton boots look these days either.

@@BoredProgression boot options unfortunately has nothing to do with the actual performance though. they make dc compatible step ons that look pretty cool. that tech is getting moved around the industry, its worth it. watching you struggle to get in and out was hard to watch. i wear a size 14 its like impossible to find a 14 in anything lmao burton step ons are incredible
@@wyattsmith1815 it matters if Burton boots don't fit your foot shape which sadly is the case with me. I do agree though that the Burton system is excellent. Probably my favourite proprietary binding since the old Switch system. But due to boot limitations I've gone elsewhere.
And twice the price if you gotta buy boots aswell... also hearing they have a lot of heel lift feel.... thats what's putting me off the burtons... Still can't choose
