Hi great video and your points are spot on..I bought these in UK a few months ago and used them in France on a 3 week trip.
I'm in my 24th year of boarding and an old books now..bought them as strapping in on traditional bindings was getting tougher.
But like you said I could motor on my twin pig and get in straight off the lift click in on the move.
They are stiffer and in heavy snow you might as you did hop to stamp in 2 clicks..this all got easier and think they are suited to not being over tight for easy access ..so.if you like me tight maybe not so great.
I loved them but probably as I'm less supple but they are great..make your own minds up ..Tony Croft UK

I tried the Snow White Tech kit that adapts your existing bindings for fast entry. Not a step-in per say, but I can get in fast, have tight bindings and not have to sit down after getting off the lift. Relatively low cost as well. I like tight bindings as well for control. For taking a look.

  • @SkateCrisis

Interesting how they lock in... I personally bought this season "SP United Mountain double entry" and they feel really good. Easy to step in and out. You can also use them like normal bindings. They are pretty light and very responsive. It just take a bit of time to adjust before the first ride. So you better try them in your living room first. I also noticed that they were a bit narrow so you better get your shoes with you the day you buy them. I usually ride with L binding but with those I had to get the XL as my boot were a bit too large. So I had to move the highback a bit forward to get better board feeling.

I've been riding Flow (acquired by Nidecker a while back) Fuse for years. It looks like a ton of the tech was borrowed from the higher-end Flow bindings (footbeds, SLR buckles, AST strap rising mechanics). The only big difference is how you get in and out. I'm not a huge fan of the release, but it should be fairly easy with everything dialed in. The straps should also be adjustable (two or three position) from the bottom of the binding, with the binding off the board. You might want to check that out and mock them up in a controlled environment and give them another shot. Nice work, Dan!

The only recommendation (don’t have to take) is it felt like I was learning about the bindings at the same time as you were. Which isn’t a bad thing but I’m impatient. Tell me about the features after you used them not during😊. Only because the review changes the more you use them as you learn more. I got these for this season. Yes they are hard to get in and out the very first day or two. Specially if they are new. You literally have to break them in. Also as your update. That middle strap has to be a little loose. Also, making the proper adjustments of the outside buckles prior adjusting the inside ones is a priority. And believe it or not. Making sure sure your pants don’t get cut under the straps makes a huge difference. And yes I know it sounds like a lot but it’s not once you break them in and you pull your pants up when you stepping in. By the 3rd day I was coming off the lift doing a simple lifting of the pants and bang. I was already stationed in and going down the slope while my friends were still strapping in.

I have flow step in and gnu, and I like the gnu system better because it does exactly what you are asking for. It lets you set a tight binding then when you lift the back you lock in the ankle strap very tight. I prefer that over the flow as it keeps my heel down much better.

The best invention they have invented, 95% to 97% works super well, if you want more security tightens them to 100% and ready, the only detail you will have a little more difficulty in entering the boot, but with a little practice, after having gone through the snow, it will be a little easier to enter the boot even if it is tight to 100%, And it responds better than any regular binding and there is no doubt about that.

A couple of months ago I bought the Clew bindings and Supermatics and have just tested them out at Brian Head Utah. The Clew bindings were super easy to use and actually felt more responsive as riding goes. The Supermatics were trickier but still easier than the traditional bindings. I think it just takes getting used to it. I'm going to test it out again in March while in Big White Canada and then again at Brian Head at the end of March. I just like the fact that there are people that invent these things, that come up with better ways to strap in and go. Other than having a high back attached to your boots, I really like the Clews.

You really gotta try StepOns with the photon boots. Honestly game changer for me. I went from Union Force bindings with a 32 Lashed Boa (which was honestly a great setup, just had to change for a sizing adjustment) to StepOns and the Photon Soft. Having the ankle strap on the photons is what makes it imo. Dont try step ons without the ankle strap boot. It makes it feel like youre locked into a traditional binding and you get zero heel lift when doing toeside turns. The heelside response is about the same as a strap boot imo, but toeside is insanely responsive because of the way the boot locks in above your achillies. Only thing i would say is if you are a 'soft boot' kinda rider they arent going to be for you. I come from skiing a pair of K2 Recon 130s and really wanted something that could get closer to ski boot stiffness and am super satisfied in that way. Double bonus for now being able to stomp my foot into the binding while going downhill. Did an entire day without my ass in the snow once :D

Had a pair of Supermatics and after a weekend of riding them I sent them back. Super heavy and no where near as easy in and out as Nidecker markets them to be. Agree that they need to be loose enough to get in which is an issue because you lose the responsiveness. It's not the worst iteration of a step-on/through binding but needs some more R&D to decrease the weight and find way to keep them tight while getting in and out. Pro's: Construction is excellent, dual entry is a really nice option. Once your body learns the mechanics it is easy to get in and out but just overall quirky. Cons: As stated quirky in and out. Weight...ugh terrible (believe me you notice it). Pressure points on the heals. After two days my heals were in a lot of pain. Never had this before and switched to traditional bindings (Bataleon Blaster Asym wraps) last week with no heal pain...so not sure why that happened on the SMatics. Overall, not for me but maybe for some one out there. Hope they continue to improve on them as it is a really good idea. Burton Step Ons just arrived so hope they work!

  • @3paseoluna
    @3paseoluna Год назад +1

I'll add, I've had Burton Step Ons with Photon boots for over a year now (second season using) and would never go back to straps. They are more responsive (sensitive) than straps and something that's not usually mentioned is that they make your setup lighter overall. YT recently fed me a video from another snowboard channel where a guy reviews Step Ons but uses some garbage lace up boot so results were of course mixed. Every other comment let him know that unless you get the good Burton boots like the Photon (I think there's a couple others from Burton) then the test is pretty much worthless so if you do get a chance to review, make sure you get the right boots as that's like half the binding. Regarding the 'toe' strap and liking that tight, personally I don't like bindings super tight but the toe boa on the Photon can get that part of the boot so tight that it hurts the foot so I don't think that would be an issue. Ironically, only slight negative I would add is that it's not always easy clicking in, particularly on uneven or sloped terrain or powder. That said, this is a minor quibble: there's 3 points of connection and you only need to get one in and the other two will connect automatically once you start riding so not a big deal.

Good tips! I don’t like the idea that you are limited to one (or a few) options for a boot tho. Personally I don’t like the way photons look and not everyone’s feet fit the same boots. • @MG-sg2ci
      @MG-sg2ci Год назад

@Bored Progression There is no issue getting in to step ons in pow or steep terrain. You just sit down and engage the rear cleat in the binding then stand up. The toes will just click in. These don’t appear to even come close to being user friendly.

Check out my latest video. I didn’t have them dialed in properly. I think these might be better than Burton’s.

The limited range of boots available for Burton's system is a problem. None of the boots I can buy locally fit my foot shape so that rules out Burton step-on completely for me.

You lose performance vs traditional but those who ride within certain boundaries won't feel it. Like putting a slow, cautious driver in a 500hp car vs a 300hp, they won't feel the difference. Know thy self

Been riding over 25 years, I think I know thyself. They perform well but not everyone is looking for the same thing. For example someone might want more flex laterally than these give or a more dampening footbed. Some people like a muscle car, some like a nimble import. For a step-in binding, they’re more than adequate while riding. Getting in/out of them? I’m not sure yet.

@@BoredProgression I should of been more clear but I was talking generally, not at ya.
But yea im with ya, just gotta be aware of limitations. If someone's riding style fits within the boundaries they will feel these to be perfect. If not, then just like with any other equipment you'll feel like something is lacking

I don’t see how you lose performance when you still have the option to use them as regular bindings…

99% of users will be fine I ride these and average 40mph and hit highs of 60mph and do it all feeling safe with these bindings. They are awesome.

Lol u tried and adjusted them on yhe slope first? Should adjust them at home first to make it right.. get in and get out. It works for me good, maybe your shoes or adjustment is some kind wrong?

I tried them out in the parking lot first and then had to re-adjust them. I was borrowing them so couldn’t do that at home.

I saw you at the bird today on a Capita Board. How come you don't rock Capita on videos? You just ride Capita on days your not filming or can you only film your luna boards. What's up with that? Flex a Capita on film if you flex them off film.. truth

Wow. First of all, why didn’t you say 👋 hi? Second of all, I was filming with the Capita DOA. You happened to see the very first day on hill riding it yesterday. It’s literally the next video dropping.

1:08 - Told to look up instructions online.
    1:12 - I don't need any instructions.
22:39 - In fact, he needed instructions and proceeded to blame it on lack of instructions in the box. After being told to look them up online.

Guilty as charged. 😝 Still wished there was something more obvious in the box about the middle strap.

    I’m very skeptical about it
    I never tried step ons
Dude just admitted he doesn’t like something because he does t like it despite not even trying it.
Anything you say after that is completely worthless

Heavy, but you get used to it. The toe strap goes over the toes, instead of cupping the toes, that's also different. The problem I had was that the stepping in them is not as easy as advertise. Which was the main reason I bought them. Still faster than traditional, first on the slope, but it takes effort, you just get stuck with your heal out. I found myself jumping on the board everything after getting in.

Did you loosen the middle strap buckle? I did and it helped a lot. New video coming to highlight this.

Try the nidecker setup up video on RUclips. Was hard to get in until I adjusted them like in the video. Should honestly have a card in the box telling you to watch the video
Also heavy… like having cement blocks on your feet if you do much jumping..
