Have it, and a jon boat, and friends with power boats, bass boats, etc. and we all use this canoe the most, with a trolling motor. The downside is sitting in it for more than a couple of hours at a time can be painful, even if you add padding. They also sell a sailing kit if you'd like to sail with it once in a while, with the added bonus of having the sailing stabilizers on all the time and being able to fish standing.
Me again, we are in oosession of this same canoe (14 ft full transom) and anre absolutely loving it. Thanks for all of the advice. Quwstion: was wondering if youve experimented with mounting a fish finder to this vessel and if so, which one? Thx
Great to hear! You will get decades of enjoyment from your canoe! I have a garmin striker that has a suction cup transducer mount, it sticks firmly to the back transom and rarely if ever pops off. The fish finder is mounted to a cross bar. You can get clamp on mounts for various tube sizes. The stock sportspal cross bars are fairly thick so many standard mounts (like normal Scotty rail mounts) won’t work so make you buy a rail mount that will fit. I had already invested in Scotty products so I added an additional cross bar of 3/4” conduit just to add my gear add ones such as the fish finder and rod holders for trolling. If you message me on Instagram I can send you some pictures if your interested
Great video. I was in the same boat…I went with an L2Fish with a 2.5hp. Weighs the same. Another similar option for people out there in warmer weather. It’s funny because they are local to me in Clearwater, FL. We live in a parallel universe ha.

I could have done this video, I went the same route... Bought a Old Town Topwater 120 kayak, then replace it with a Perception Crank 10 pedal drive. I juste bought a Sportspal 12 transom and my kayak will go on sale on Kijijji and Marketplace... Great canadian made canoe !
Nice review. Almost bought this model a few years ago but found a dent free 1970s 15.5 foot Grumman Sport Boat for 900 dollars. Twice as heavy at 125 pounds with a 42 inch beam. Needs a trailer though but its a rare beast with double oar locks if you dont want to use a motor (which i do). Shined it up with scotchbrite pads and it looks brand new. Replacing the motor mount pads today to beef up the transom to take some of my vintage outboards. Can paddle the thing (poorly) and even sail it but I dont have or want a sail kit. Happy water travels from a fellow Ontarian.
When I was young we had a Raddison which is very similar to the SportsPal. They are incredibly light and very stable with the foam sponsons and perfect for 2 people. My Native Slayer Max “sit on top” Peddle Drive Kayak weighs in over 120 lbs and I absolutely love fishing from it but I need a trailer to haul it around and if the wife wants to come we need to take 2 kayaks. These canoes are great for all the reasons you mentioned.
Picked my 14ft Wide Transom Sportspal yesterday on a cold cold day, people on the highway opened windows to give me thumbs up and victory gestures LOL, it was funny. It's bright red colour, and looking forward to summer. Yes, weight was the main factor because my current canoe is a 17 footer polycarbonate, almost 145lbs, very heavy. Sportspal is Lexus of Canoes no doubt.
Wow! This looks like an interesting option for fishing and getting to the duck blind or simple weekend camping trips. I usually rent a car and often go alone, so this might be light and simple enough for the solo outings. I can't imagine any other option that would be so light and stable.

I'm worried that the 36 inch shaft might be too long to drive comfortably? Thanks
@@edwardfollen5914 I have the 36” shaft and don’t find it an issue since I stand a lot and like the height. A 30” shaft is definitely doable though I’m just not sure if the higher pound thrust models come in the shorter shaft length

I'm looking to buy this same boat in the U.S (Radisson) and want to make sure that I have enough thrust for myself + two 100 lb kids. Thanks

Last question and again thank you for being so helpful: Could you tell me which battery you use and approximately how much run time you get out of your 40 lb thrust motor? Thanks again.
@@edwardfollen5914 we just switched to a Power Queen (from Amazon) 100ah lithium battery. It’s lightweight at around 25lbs and lasts all day no problem

We just sold our 14’ square stern for this exact model, even same colour! We loved our other sportspal but this one takes our 2.5 Merc much better. And is actually more stable. I agree about the canoe being better to fish from. I do like my Ride 135 kayak, but to be truthful, the canoe is much better for fishing.
Hello, awesome video. You mentioned that this random canoe is "hard to paddle". Is that really true? I'm very close to buying one (14 ft. Transom Radisson) but want to make sure that it's easy enough to paddle (like a traditional canoe) in addition to using a motor. Thanks
You can definitely paddle a wide transom model but compared to a pointed model it is much slower. We also have a pointed 16’ canoe and the difference is pretty noticeable in speed, effort and steering. When I purchased the wide transom the salesman basically told me it was for motor use as paddling would be awkward and I find this to be true. We have paddled this in a pinch but I wouldn’t choose to do so if I didn’t have to.
Made the same choice in this exact same wt. Got a great deal on a perfect condition beauty. Load it on my Mazda 3 and can take anything a Jon boat could.

@Gus F I'm considering the same boat that you got. The 14' pointed but the U.S version considering I'm only an hour away from where they build them. Are you happy with it or wishing you'd gone with the square stern

If your going to use an outboard engine definitely get the flatback. But if your looking to use a trolling motor sometimes and other times just paddle it the pointed may be a good option
I’ve fished from both and honestly the extra length doesn’t add much stability. The added space is better for two people and camping but other then that they are both stable as heck
@@averageontarioanglers I think he is asking if the wide transom is that much more stable compared to the pointed or square stern and not so much the length of the canoe. I was wondering the same thing so I thought I'd jump in and ask. Can you paddle the square stern? Thanks and excellent channel with great info
@philipmelo1786 hey, yeah definitely the full transom is way more stable but it becomes more of a thin boat at that point and less like a canoe so it is difficult to paddle. If you’re looking to paddle and motor I’d get the small square back, not the full transom. The pointed models are incredible stable though for what they are
@@averageontarioanglers how is it having the trolling motor beside you on the pointed canoe versus behind you on the transom or square stern? I assume there are advantages and disadvantages to both? @philipmelo1786 side mounted is never ideal but it works. If you plan on using it with the trolling motor and not paddling, I would definitely get the flat back or the wide transom definitely.
I actually installed a piece if 3/4” emt electrical conduit across the canoe just behind the thick cross piece. Sadly the stock cross piece is generally too thick for most name brand mounts. The 3/4” pipe works great with Scotty rail mount accessories. If you message me on our Instagram I can send you a picture if your interested
A few questions. Suppose I wanted a 16 foot to accommodate more people (or big dog) and stuff when needed, could I still use it with myself and get along fine? Or would it be too big? If I brought my dog with (German Shepherd) would he destroy the floor. Could I put floor matts on the floor for him? Do they make a backrest for the seats when you want to sit? Thanks!
I almost bought the 16 myself but got the 14 just for ease of transport by myself. The 16 is definitely still manageable with one person, it’s around 20lbs heavier but I was able to lift it myself without too much strain. He talked me out of getting the 16, and I’m glad he did, I can stuff tons of stuff into the 14 without issues. If your looking to transport 3 people or stuff a huge amount of gear the 16 may be good but for 2 guys, the 14 is great. Hope that helps 👌
Hey can one of you more experienced guys help me out. I have my eye on a 14ft sportspal transom i would like to know the difference between the transom and the square stern. I understand one is more wide all the way through but what are the pro or cons vs each other. I wont be using a motor at all i paddle with my wife basically by my self lol. Im looking for stability light weight plus easy to control and paddle. What one is best for me ?
If your not using a motor at all I wouldn’t get a flatback or wide transom . The full transom model is more stable of course but it paddles terribly. The regular pointed back model is still stable, very stable actually since it’s so wide in the middle but I’d easier to paddle. The square stern is the best of both worlds so if your ever going to get a small motor in the future I’d check that one out.
They make the U.S version in Adrian Michigan. I've seen the 14' pointed advertised for $1388 at a dealer in Ohio. This was today 2/15/22. I'd imagine the shipping would be quite expensive to Wisconsin

@@averageontarioanglers thank you sir is there any difference in quantity i heard that the transoms use a little thicker aluminum?
I haven’t noticed a difference compared to my buddies pointed model
Looks nice!!
So nice! Love this thing!
Where did you buy your canoe?
It’s mentioned in the video: Freedom Kayak and Canoe Barrie
Where can I buy one in wisconsin
We’re from Ontario, Canada, I wouldn’t know that unfortunately. Try calling your local canoe/kayak shop
They make the U.S version in Adrian Michigan. I've seen the 14' pointed advertised for $1388 at a dealer in Ohio. This was today 2/15/22. I'd imagine the shipping would be quite expensive to Wisconsin
4:56 funny "no face"
Awesome ✌️
Where’s my invite!
You've had it out 10 times "which is crazy". Why is it crazy ? You didn't expect it to last that long ? Or are you just a valley girl that likes saying, like crazy.
You took a quote from the first 10 seconds of this video so you clearly didn’t watch the rest of it where I explained those 10 fishing trips were in a short period of time. Thanks for the comment valley girl
Can one person paddle that thing?
