- Not many racehorses can say they’ve won 19 Graded races on Dirt, Turf and synthetic surfaces but they’re not Breeders’ Cup champion thoroughbred WISE DAN.
Bred in Kentucky, USA by owner Morton Fink, the chestnut son of stallion Wiseman's Ferry won three of his first four starts for Trainer Charles LoPresti.
A maiden Grade 1 victory in the Clark Handicap when ridden by Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez would signal an unrivaled winning partnership.
Wise Dan developed a liking for Turf, recording victories in the Woodbine Mile, Shadwell Mile and the Breeders’ Cup Mile - where he beat Kentucky Derby and Dubai World Cup winner Animal Kingdom.
He became the first horse to win back to back Woodbine Miles, before landing a second Breeders’ Cup Mile at Santa Anita.
Further accolades include Champion Male Turf Horse, Champion Older Male and Horse of the Year in 2012 and 2013, and happily Wise Dan now lives out his days at the LoPresti's Forest Lane Farm.
Notable victories include:
Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes, Keeneland (USA) 2014, 2012
Bernard Baruch Handicap, Saratoga (USA) 2014
Woodford Reserve Turf Classic Stakes, Churchill Downs (USA) 2014, 2013
Maker's 46 Mile Stakes, Keeneland (USA) 2014, 2013
Breeders' Cup Mile, Santa Anita (USA) 2013, 2012
Woodbine Mile, Woodbine (Canada) 2013
Fourstardave Handicap, Saratoga (USA) 2013
Firecracker Handicap, Churchill Downs (USA) 2013
Fayette Stakes, Keeneland, (USA) 2011

That’s impressive over so many grounds - truth is a lot of horses in australia would run good, we have drought floods they run through it - toughness
A little bit sad that Wise Dan had never raced overseas.
I heard that since Wise Dan is a gelding that after he was retired he might be used as a lead pony at the track because he's sonlaind back & easy going. I wonder if there's any truth to that .
Guess it was just a rumor.
I believe he went straight to the farm after he had the injury. I think I know who you're thinking of but his name escapes me at the moment.
@@denisesomewherearoundhere1798 that would bE Lava Man. He was I'll Have Another's lead pony when IHA won the Kentucky Derby and The preakness
Should have at least raced him ince in the BC Classic to see whelat he could do ala Gio Ponti. Great horse nonetheless!
