  • One of the most dramatic turn of events that you will ever see on the track as What's The Scoop threw away certain victory at Sandown in March 2016 as the gelding veered off-course to hand the race on a plate to Starving Marvin.
    The Nicky Henderson-trained six-year-old was easing clear having jumped the last flight safely, but suddenly jinked sharply to his left under Barry Geraghty towards startled spectators.
    Geraghty managed to correct his mount but the eventual winner had gone beyond recall and would go on to record a most fortuitous victory. Hear what the jockey had to say to Racing TV afterwards.

    That was hysterical once you figure it out. The horse thought the race was over. He didn't bolt but slowed to a crawl and went to what he thought was the exit, which is to the horses left. I say this because the horse stopped himself at the fence, and when he saw the other horse he took off. Ironically, if the race had been another 1/8 he would've passed him again. The horse wasn't hurt, just young. It isn't only jockeys who mistime a race. They may have to use blinders. The jockey said he kept looking at the crowd.

    Starving Marvin pulled-up lame at Wincanton in November 2016 and was put down a couple of weeks later and Bad Boy du Pouldu was fatally injured at Plumpton in November 2020.
    What's The Scoop won what looked to have been his last ever race in 2020 but he came back after 18 months off the track in August 2021 and finished last and then finished last about 8 months later at 150/1 and died the next day at the age of 12.

About 5 years later he pulled the same trick, I recognized him from b4. So I cancelled the bet but didn't say anything hoping the horse would win & it did. • @mikaelafox6106
      @mikaelafox6106 2 года назад +6

      It’s not that the horses are exhausted. They run a bit slower to conserve energy. These jumps races can be long. You see it better when there are more than three horses in a race, there’s always a quickening after that last jump. Horses won’t run if they don’t want to. Look at a Breeders Cup race with a mare named Life At Ten. She didn’t want to run that race and she didn’t. She pretty much trotted around the track.

The only real fix was it being odds of 11/10 next time out when it clearly had its own ideas about the game. Why did Michael Buckley get rid of the horse without it ever going close to winning again. I've seen a horse win by five lengths and be disqualified because some lead weights fell out of the saddle bags and the jockey couldn't make correct weight (yeah, I backed that one!).
